Thumbs up Monthly Book Club

So I'm gonna try something new, and I hope others will join me in this idea. A monthly book club! At the beginning of every month there will be 3 books (a single book for three different suggested age groups) listed. Then that month, people can go out and get their hands on the book and read it if they want. Once all is read you can hop back on this thread to talk about the book! Simple enough right? (more info later in post)

May's Books Are....

Adult Book (18+)
The Hobbit

by J.R. R. Tolkien

"Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit who wanted to be left alone in quiet comfort. But the wizard Gandalf came along with a band of homeless dwarves. Soon Bilbo was drawn into their quest, facing evil orcs, savage wolves, giant spiders, and worse unknown dangers. Finally, it was Bilbo–alone and unaided–who had to confront the great dragon Smaug, the terror of an entire countryside"

Teen Book (13-18)
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

"Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves."

Kids Book (12 and Under)
Korgi: Book 1

by Christian Slade

Click the image to open in full size.

*Warning: Is a graphic novel with no words, but still is a good read*
"Christian Slade, a former Disney animator and currently full-time freelance illustrator, has brought to Top Shelf a gorgeously illustrated woodland fantasy about a young girl named Ivy, her dog Sprout and their amazing adventures in Korgi Hollow."

With that good and done, here's some more information on the club
The three age groups. Each book is picked with 3 age groups in mind, children, teens, and adult. So while the level may say adult, many teens have the possibility of already having read the book or wish to read that book, same goes with children and teen books. Just because you are not in the age group, doesn't mean you shouldn't read it. IT is just a suggestion based on where the books would probably be found in the bookstore (children section, teens section, then everywhere else).

How Are the Monthly Books Chosen?
At the middle of each month, I will pm a random member of the club for their books suggestions for each category (or for as many categories as they want to give). Each month that member changes. Also, when suggesting books, I will go out and read them to try to approve they they are WI friendly so there will be nothing too lovey or bloody. Another thing when suggesting books, make sure a brand new copy of that book is under $15. That way it's not super expensive.
