The Jedi Archives:
Facts:
Facts found by Sha, Tyco, and Darth Omni
2011:
Spoiler: show
7/16/11
Sebastian Shaw played the unmasked Vader in Return of the Jedi. But in the scene on Endor in the 2004 DVD release, with Ben Kenobi, Yoda, and Anakin's ghosts, his ghost was replaced by Hayden Christensen's. This was done to symbolize that Anakin died when he became Vader.- Thanks to Sha for finding this fact!

7/20/11
In A New Hope, when the stormtroopers invade the Tantive IV, one of the stormtroopers bumps their head on the way in!- Thanks to Darth Omni for this fact!

7/24/11
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones was the most expensive movie made in the series, costing over $120 million to make.

7/30/11
Return of the Jedi was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi, but later underwent a title change. This was because George Lucas thought that a Jedi would never take revenge.

8/3/11

FUN FACT: General Grievous was designed to be a clue to Anakin's future as Darth Vader. Grievous had breathing problems, a cybernetic body, and a hatred for virtually everyone, just like Darth Vader.

8/8/11
Every Star Wars movie in the U.S. was released in May, always a week after George Lucas' birthday, May 14th.

8/13/11
Jabba the Hutt was actually a puppet, and it took 10 puppeteers using both hands to control him.

8/18/11
FUN FACT: Remember ET, another famous alien movie? His species makes a cameo as senators in The Phantom Menace!

8/21/11
In the novelization of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Anakin tells Padme, “I’m going to marry you some day.” Talk about seeing things before they happen!

8/27/11
Heres a fact: Just before Anakin leaves the Lar's homestead to find his lost mother, he is standing next to the domed entrance to the dwellings. Padme comes up the stairs, calls his name and as he turns, the shadow cast on the wall is that of Darth Vader. (Note - Some argue that this is not the shadow of Darth Vader but a coincidence and the real shadow of the actor).

Other Facts:
Spoiler: show
Did you know that the phrase "Luke, I am your father!" was never actually in the movie? The correct quote is "No, I am your father!" It's one of the most misquoted phrases in all Star Wars.- Thanks to Jedi Cookie for revealing this!

Asajj Ventress was the original design for Count Dooku. Went through a lot of changes, huh?- Thanks to Darth Omni for this fact!

Luke Skywalker's name was originally Starkiller, who's now Darth Vader's Apprentice's codename.

During the Empire Strikes Back's asteroid scene, one of the asteroids is actually a potato. Edit: it was actually a beet painted brown.

During the Empire Strikes Back evacuation from Cloud City scene, there's a guy running around with an ice cream maker.

The shape of the Millennium Falcon was originally inspired by a hamburger with an olive on the side.

The sounds of the lightsabers were made by moving a microphone next to a TV set.

We all know “A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” But did you know that the original draft by George Lucas read: “A long, long time ago, in the not-too-distant future…” Luckily, someone pointed out to George that this made no sense.

One of the failed movie-merchandise tie-ins for Empire was the creepy (and frankly, disgusting) chocolate bar Carbonite Crunch.

Three from Episode IV:
In the scene at the end of the very first battle, where Imperial troops have just taken control of Princess Leia's rebel ship, Darth Vader breaks the neck of the rebel leader and tosses his body to the wall. The "dead" rebel puts up both of his hands to avoid slamming his face into the wall.

Luke's line "I can't see a thing in this helmet" was not scripted. Mark Hamill said this to Harrison Ford when he thought the cameras had stopped rolling. But, the filmmakers decided to leave the line in.

When the Tuskan Raiders are seen raiding Luke's speeder, you can actually see the wheels or at least whatever is holding it up off the ground.

On Utapau or whatever planet it is, when Obi-Wan battles General Grievous, Greivous sends those droids with the twirly things at Obi-Wan, he force-pulls something from the ceiling to crush them. But later into the battle in the spot where they should be, the ceiling-thingy and the crushed droids aren't there.

Right when the potato flies through space, you can see a tennis shoe too.

So Mark Hamill and George Lucas were in a fight. So Lucas says the actors keep messing up too much and he's going to cut wages if they kept doing that. Then Hamill (yay) told him that he was arrogant and wouldn't notice if a show flew through space. Hmm. I wonder if this is true.

' In writing The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas initially decided that Lando Calrissian was a clone and came from a planet of clones which caused the "Clone Wars" mentioned by Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope;'

In July 1973, George Lucas was an unkown producer working on a low-budget nostalgia film. He then approached Universal Studios and asked if they were interested in a film called "Star Wars". Universal turned him down, which was one of the biggest mistakes made by a studio.

When Parts 1-3 were not yet made, the events leading up to "A New Hope" were still floating around, waiting to be discussed. One of the minor elements, was the “13 year old Correllian Cabin Boy” on Captain Antilles’ ship. This would conclude to Han Solo being in the movies before the events of "A New Hope". Luckily, it did not get produced into the movies.

Chewbacca was actually inspired by George Lucas's dog. He decided to make Chewbacca a cross between his dog, a bear, and a monkey. Wow :o

Anthony Daniels, the actor who played C3P0, made a cameo in Episode 2.

Actors auditioning for the part of Anakin included Ryan Phillippe, Paul Walker, Colin Hanks and Jonathan Brandis. In the end Hayden Christensen got the part, primarily because he and Natalie Portman "looked good together".

Like Ewan McGregor did in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Hayden Christensen made "lightsaber noises" the first time he was handed one in rehearsal. After chuckling at the young star's antics, George Lucas informed him that they probably had people in Sound Effects who could do a better job in post production.

There is no mystical significance in the color of Mace Windu's light saber. Samuel L. Jackson, after a jokey conversation with stunt coordinator Nick Gillard, asked George Lucas if he could have a purple light saber to match his favorite color, and George Lucas agreed. In an interview on UK TV, Jackson said he "thought it would be cool".

When Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin (Hayden Christensen) enter the sports bar on Coruscant to search for the assassin Zam Wesell (Leeanna Walsman), several actors and crew members from the "Star Wars" movies can be spotted, including Ahmed Best, (voice of Jar Jar Binks) and Anthony Daniels (C-3P0). Also visible in the crowd are R2D2 handler Don Bies and his Droid team consisting of Zeynep Selcuk, Justin Dix and Trevor Tighe.

The final shot of Padmé and Anakin looking out on the lake in Naboo with R2-D2 and C-3PO to their right is a reproduction of the final shot of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, where Luke and Leia are looking out into space from the ship with R2-D2 and C-3PO to their right.

Every movie in the series closes with a scene with no dialogue. This movie ends with a ceremony with the main characters looking at one another, then out over the lake.

Jar Jar Binks, standing in for Senator Amidala, puts forth the motion that gives Palpatine supreme powers. This means that Jar Jar, the most hated character in the Star Wars canon, is indirectly responsible for the fall of the Old Republic and the near-annihilation of the Jedi order.

The shot of Anakin and Padme walking and talking about her serving as senator when they first arrive on Naboo is shot in the same way and outside the same building as the last conversation between General Allenby and Dryden before the intermission of Lawrence of Arabia.

Hayden Christensen became the only actor in any Star Wars movie who didn't get to choose the design of his lightsaber. It had been a tradition, but Christensen was stuck using a saber of the same design that Obi-Wan gives Luke in Star Wars.

Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman play the parents of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Christensen and Hamill both have Swedish ancestry, while Portman and Fisher both have Jewish ancestry.

Although both Nute Gunray (Silas Carson) and Shmi Skywalker (Pernilla August) were both major supporting characters in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, neither character's name was given in dialogue until this film.

George Lucas actually had different plans for the "No, I am your father" scene. The original script read "Luke. You are your own father!" This really confused the actors.

Filming for The Empire Strikes Back was put to a stop for 2 weeks due to a wind-surfing competition, which had become a tradition for Lucas and he refused to miss it.

The name "Jawa" simply came from the Lucas family doctor's name.

When production on Star Wars began, it was originally titled "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, As Taken From the Journal of the Whills, Saga One: The Star Wars" The title was eventually shortened, and Luke Starkiller changed to Luke Skywalker.

Every Star Wars movie in the US has been released in May, always one week after George Lucas's birthday.

Some of the items used to make Star Wars ship models were model airplane parts and egg-shaped pantyhose containers.

George Lucas planned to portray Luke as an old general, but they decided to make him younger so he would have more potential.

Harrison Ford was once an unknown actor working as a carpenter until he was asked to play Han Solo.

George Lucas decided to hire unknown actors for the most important roles in the film. Mark Hamill had more than 100 TV appearances, and Carrie Fisher had studied acting. Neither had much experience in films, though.

I read in the Making of Star Wars that Lucas didn't want to use him, because he'd had a small cameo in Lucas's last movie, American Graffiti. He hired those two unknowns because he wanted people to watch SW for the story, not the actors. (You also have to pay them less XD) One of the guys who was either producing the movie or doing something else important, (can't remember) felt that Ford would be perfect as Han, and arranged for him to be fixing a door right when Lucas walked by. Lucas felt sorry for Ford, so he offered him a job reading Han's parts in casting, while they looked for a Luke and Leia. Eventually, Lucas realised that Ford would indeed make a wonderful Han, and gave him the job.

Star Wars is pretty cool ;D

How did you like the books?

ElfLover07-15-2011 01:49 PM

Re: The Force is Strong With The STAR WARS FAN CLUB! Join Now!

I really liked them! They were really good, with tons of detail, and they were actually pretty different from what I expected when I tried them.

I will admit, until last October, I was a die-hard anti-Star-Wars-person. Then, tired of people giving me weird looks for not at least trying them, I asked if I could give the books a try, and I realized what a huge mistake I had been making up until then.

LONG. You've read LOTR. One of the trilogies is probably about the same length as LOTR is.
