Default Suggestion for tags to prevent code theft

I purchased a Beanie Baby 2.0 the other day and was actually quite impressed with the way they have implemeted their tags so that the codes cannot be stolen (or can at least be caught if they have been).

On their tags, you have to scratch off a box covering the code with a coin. Ingenious!
So if you see a tag with the code scratched off, you will know it's stolen. Ganz should really consider doing something like this. It would really cut down on theft.

Wow, that's really cool! I do wish Webkinz codes worked like that.

the scratch off is cool, but it is way too easy to open those ty tags a little and scratch it off... they are going to have trouble keeping those codes secure at the stores...

Oh well I'm sure that kids will still scratch them off and steal them, but my point is, when you see the animal in the store, you will be able to TELL that the code was stolen because it was scratched off! No more getting home with an animal and log in and find out the code's been used..

I have never heard of these!!!! I don't get out much, obviously.

That is a great idea. They could put the scratch-off inside the plastic case so it would be very safe. Any idea how often it happens that people buy Webkinz with a stolen code?

I was thinking this too! I was looking at the like Ty Girls and the code was nearly open! I wanted to see the code, I know, I'm terrible. But when I looked, it had to be scratched off!

I'm actually not impressed at all because the tags are made on a flimsy card paper type tag that can so easy be pulled off... in fact when I was in hallmark last week I found half a tag on the floor, picked it up, called the manager over, then helped her go through their small display and found 5 that had the tags pulled off!!!!!

I think it will be the same problem with getting one as a gift if the adult doesnt know its supposed to have a second tag on it with a scratch off code, they wont know that they are missing the key part of the toy....

I personally have purchased a webkinz that had a stolen code where the pouch was opened very carefully at the seam at the back end and the card removed, then replaced...

I heard on other threads that people just rip the tags off. Sometimes people forget to check the pets to make sure they are even on. Too bad they can't assign the code to the animals Ganz tag, so maybe you could call in the number on your animal and prove it should be yours and they could cancel the other guy that stole it.

At least if they leave the tag on but steal the code, Ganz CAN find out who used it... when that happened to me in November I hadto give them the adoption code and also another number that is on there, as well as information from the tush tag and the receipts to prove i had actually just purchased it...

Really nice idea! That would really help all of those people who have stolen tags and plus it is just better security for Ganz. Again, really great idea
