Nice idea, but really hard to make stuff like this fly 'cause it's not up to Ganz. You start wandering into copyright and patent territory then. They really can't use other companies characters without their permission.
You see these other companies allowing use of their "products" in the ads and click-to-wins (as evidenced by the Mario background that was up not too long ago, the movie tie-ins and the Kinectimal video thingy, but I don't see Ganz being allowed to make actual pets based off of them anytime soon (Goompa pet or Smurf pet anyone?).
But it is pretty easy for a popular company to ask if they can use webkinz as the following characters.

Not really. A lot of stuff has to happen, and it's rare.
Nyan cat in particular, since it's more widely known as a meme. Although it's definitely kid friendly, I don't think Ganz would want to stray into that territory because there is often a lot of stuff that would be considered innapropriate for 5-8 year olds.
Besides that, a lot of advertising for that would need to happen. I really doubt Ganz would do this- they are imaginative enough to make their own products, and not make a second copy of others.

So I guess my idea is bad...
I would like to see more bunny's perhaps spotted bunnies!
The two webkinz I suggested are being made: the signature husky and the white tiger, although I suggested a signature white tiger. (lol) I haven't thought about beyond January for pet ideas.

Your idea isn't bad, Tommy
I mean, there would be a lot of stuff they'd have to go through, but I don't see why Nyan wouldn't want more publicity. Ganz might be able to make it happen. Let's remember- there's a HOP bunny Webkinz and a Cheshire Cat Webkinz.

well, they allowed the hopping bunny based off of EB from the movie Hop.

There was the hopping bunny....
I think a Nyan cat would be awesome.
Also, I'm hoping for a Signature Snow Leopard. That would be amazing. (:
