Default Lupus - The Disease I Live With

Hello. My name is Kathryn EDIT. I suffer from a disease known as Lupus. This disease is an auto immune disease. Since being diagnosed, it has changed my life in more ways than you can imagine.
I have undergone chemotherapy, high doses of corticosteroids, painful procedures as well as many other difficult things.

Please visit:
Education and Resources | Lupus Ontario
for more information on Lupus.

Webkinz is a very generous company. The caring valley, which donates to various organizations, as well as the Webkinz Foundation, which donates to many organizations, as well as helping children right in the hospitals by donating toys, money and laptops.

Webkinz is indeed amazing, and that is why, I want them to attempt something for me.

I want them to create a webkinz for lupus. A butterfly, for the butterfly is the symbol of lupus. By creating this webkinz, they could help spread awareness. Not many people know of this disease, and by webkinz, such a well known toy company, creating a lupus butterfly, awareness would increase amazingly.

As more awareness is raised we can get closer and closer to finding a cure for lupus.

Please, take the time to e-mail ganz, asking them to create a webkinz butterfly. It will only take a few minutes of your day, and by doing so, you can help me, help lupus.

E-mail ganz at: webkinzsupport@ganz.com

Thank you for your help. I truly appreciate it.

Please do not reveal personal information on WI

UPDATE

First off, I wanted to thank everyone who supported this cause. I really appreciate each and every one of you, and what you have all done.

On a sadder note, I received an e-mail back from the executive assistant to the president, who gently told me, that it would not be possible for ganz and webkinz to create a lupus webkinz, because "they do not affiliate with any one cause"

I could live with that, if in October they were not SUPPORTING BREAST CANCER!

I feel disrespected, lied to and very angry. I am not stupid. If you are not affiliating with any cause, then WHY are you affiliating with Breast Cancer.

I understand Breast Cancer is very big, I lost my grandmother to breast cancer. But Breast Cancer has so much coverage already, do they have to take webkinz as well?!

And did you know, lupus awareness month is October, the same as Breast Cancer? Of course you wouldn't, because Breast Cancer gets that month.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all for your help, but I guess its over. I will start approaching other companies, asking for help. Thanks for your help insiders!

UPDATE

I e-mailed Ganz again, asking why they would make a breast cancer animal when they don't affiliate with any one cause. The lady did not address my concern, but instead sent me an e-mail to webkinz foundation. With this e-mail I can get a lupus charity to apply for a grant, in which they will donate money to lupus!

My moms friend, who works with a lupus charity is going to help me send out a application for a grant for lupus!

My mom has Lupus and she's a survivor

I think this could be a way for Ganz to show its true colors. This could start a Webkinz pet for cancer, diabetes, etc. and would be a great way to teach kids to play a role in their community.

To a survivor with a splendid idea,

MegMeg

Dear Kathystew,

I would be more than happy to help. My mother was diagnosed with Lupus by a dermatologist 6 years ago when suffering unusual hair loss on her scalp she was 56. Her regular physician blew her off when she told him what the results were. She suffered things often overlooked such as a bad sunburn on her face that left scaring on her nose, Depression (it happens to the best of us "Shake it off" her doctor said), she got pleurisy twice, and she also got shingles twice, swollen knees (arthritis) some days were filled with incredible pain.

Then she had a dizzy spell. When they got her to the hospital her kidneys were inexplicably shutting down and she had swelling around her heart. They put her on blood pressure medication.

I saw an local news program featuring a reporters daughter who had just recovered from a terrible bout with Lupus when I saw the story I remember asking my Mom to mention the diagnosis she got from the dermatologist years prior. The new physicians assistant we met at the hospital confirmed it but five weeks after being home from the hospital she was gone - Two days after turning 62. - I will definately write them a letter today - Dawn

I agree with both of you. They already have caring valley which gives to so many excellent charities, but they can take it a step farther by creating different pets for different charities. This would put the charity right in the store and bring awareness to both the cause and increase popularity in webkinz. Thank you so much for posting this fantastic idea!

I think the idea of a lupus butterfly is wonderful. I have never heard of lupus before and I hope they will find a cure. I hope you live the best life you can live.

Oh my gosh, what a great idea! I love the idea of having pets for different diseases and even portions of the proceeds from those pets going to help organisations, similar to the idea of the Caring Valley. Like a cancer pet and such. Now, Ganz is using the Pink Poodle to spread awareness about breast cancer so I think we're on the right track!

I like the awareness thing, but I worry about Ganz donating proceeds. While many research companies are legit, many others use donations for things other than finding true preventative measures and cures.

My grandmother and a good friend of mine both have lupus.
