Default Ganz should have stricter quality control on their plush

I've been browsing many Webkinz recently at Justice, Hallmark, Target, etc... What I've noticed is that, compared to other companies' plush (which often retail for around half the price of a Webkinz), the quality of Webkinz is definitely inferior.

Last time at Justice, I looked through the Blueberry Cheeky dogs. 10/12 had skewed/defective faces (due to improperly placed eyes and nose). It wasn't just that the stuffing got pushed during shipping. Here's an example.

Click the image to open in full size.

In addition, more than half of the plush I own have the a backwards patch of fur on some part of their body (imagine petting a cat/dog in the wrong direction). They also have miscellaneous other defects, like sewing mishap. I've never noticed this on any of my plush made by other companies, except for a couple of very inexpensive ones.

If Ganz were to sell only the plush (no codes), they would probably retail for $5.99 (and I don't imagine they'd even sell well because they're not of high quality). That means that, assuming a $12.99 retail price, $7.00 of the price of a Webkinz is for the secret code. (If you get it at Justice for 40% off, it's $5.33 for the secret code)

For the price we're charged, the quality of the plush should definitely be higher, don't you think?

Interesting. I've never noticed these problems, I've got a bunch sitting here on my desk, and none of them have a problem. Of course if they are doing that, they should be more careful in how they make them. Makes me wonder if some stores are more prone to getting bad batches or something. Or the mistake batches.

You're right! The only problems I've has with my pets is a small hole in it somewhere. I don't think it was an accident with the pet getting into the store, because it's not easy to cut the fur. It was probably caused my the person sewing it being careless.

I've noticed that also-many of the legs are hanging by a small hinge of fur, and the smile is often askew with the nose. Although some of these problems could be passed off as "unique marks" of a pet, some of them are just really sad.

Actually at Justice, I went there on the 5th of June, I saw 2 signature cows with holes, one golden pegasus with hair falling out, and a pom pom kitty with a deformed face. But, it might have been the way they were packed, smushed against the boxes and packed in tightly, that might be the problem of the deformed face.

I really don't pay much attention to the plushies, I am hooked on the adoptions on line. My dogs chew out the eyes anyway (that sounds so mean). If I thought about it, I would probably buy the deformed ones, so someone else could have the others.

I haven't noticed any with glaring issues like the nose and eye out of place, but I have noticed there is some with small mistakes or issues.

I recently bought myself the Golden Pegasus. There are two stores almost side by side in the local mall that carry webkinz. I went through the stock of both stores and picked out what I deemed to be the most perfect plushie. I found a lot of them had bent legs and scraggly manes.

I don't really notice this. The shippment of webkinz my area gets is pretty much always OK. Once in a while, you can find a few deformed pets, but in my area, they're almost always ok.
But, for others who do get the deformed webkinz, i suggest GANZ does either A) Lower thier prices or B) Make sure they don't ship out deformed webkinz. Thanks for pointing this out.

None of my plushes have this issue, but I don't doubt that some of the plushes in stores have this issue. If you look at what seems like Ganz's competitor the shining stars thing the plushes look so much more better quality than webkinz. But, I don't know how much they are I haven't checked. Maybe the people that make the plushes rush into it and that's why some are disfigured.
