I mostly write from a girl's perspective ( I am a girl, after all, so it's easier), but I write from guys' perspectives as character building exercises 9 to get to know my characters better, get in their mind, etc.) If I have guy characters that are a big part of the story, they're not usually the ones who narrate.
I don't know why, but almost all the characters I write for are human girls. Maybe it's because I can relate to them. I've tried writing from a boy's point of view several times, and he ends out wimpy and whiney.
My main characters are mostly all girls (unless I write about my Webkinz). Occasionally, a guy will be a more main character (but never THE main character).
Always humans and about a 3 to 1 ratio of female to male. Since I'm a girl, I find it easier to write from that perspective. But then again, I usually write in third-person.
