YOUR Complete Profile Guide w/Pictures, Tips & Rules!
The Profile Page...
its the latest craze, its your lil home here on WI and you want to jazz it up! Hopefully this guide will help you do just that, if you have any questions or get stuck on a step, feel free to post or PM me, I will try to help walk you through it.

PLEASE NOTE: I am viewing WI with Internet Explorer, therefore any images reflect how my screen looks with this browser, they tend to vary slightly on other browsers.

have fun,

PROFILE BACKGROUND: This is the image that is the main background of your Profile.
  • You must first find an image you want to use as your background and save it on your computer. Be sure you "Remember" where you saved the image!
  • Create a New Album or Add Album. You MUST be sure to select "PROFILE" ALBUM (Public or Private Albums will not work for this.)
  • You will see a link that says CLICK HERE TO UPLOAD PICTURES, it will then direct you to a page that looks like the BELOW:
  • Click on BROWSE button and open the specific Image File. This is where its handy to "Remember" where you saved your image!
  • Then click on the UPLOAD PICTURES Button.
  • If the file Uploaded correctly it will direct you to the next page like BELOW Showing the Background Image, You can customize the Caption as you wish.
  • Now you want to click directly on the Background Image and it will take you to the screen like pictured below.
  • You want to grab the PICTURE URL by clicking on the address like below and highlighting, RIGHT CLICK on it and select COPY.

  • You then want to return to your Main Profile Page and from there click on CUSTOMIZE PROFILE.
  • You will then see a screen like below. This is where it may look a lil intimidating, but dont let it!
  • In the First Box at the the top..you will see the box that says BACKGROUND IMAGE, right click on it and select PASTE so that the saved PICTURE URL will auto enter itself into the box.
  • Click PREVIEW to see what the background image will look like.
  • CONGRATZ..You have Completed putting the main background on your Profile.
CONTENT BACKGROUND: This is the image that is behind the text of your visitor messages. Basically you follow all the steps above..only difference is that you will enter the PICTURE URL addresses in all other BACKGROUND IMAGE Boxes from the Customize Profile Page. You can really have fun using multi-background images to create an unique look.
SUGGESTION: Solid backgrounds work best for Content Backgrounds..they are easier on the eyes!

CONTENT COLOR Background: If you dont want to use a specific image for the content background or the Profile Background for that matter.. simply specify a COLOR. Just click on the rectangle and a color wheel will pop-up for you to select from.

If you dont like any of their colors, you can enter ANY valid color code. I use the following website for more color options: http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.html

TEXT & HYPERLINKS COLOR: On this same screen you can further customize all text colors.

Text Color: Will specify the color of any text.
Hyperlink Color: Will specify the color of any text that direct to a link.

PREVIEW FEATURE: You will see that PREVIEW Box several times on your Customize Profile screen..utilize that option as you play with different color codes to get a preview of how the colors coordinate with the Background Images you have already entered.

SAVE! SAVE!: Once you have put in everything on the CUSTOMIZE PROFILE screen, please PLEASE dont forget to SAVE YOUR CHANGES!!!

  • Your profile is like your own homepage, Let your profile represent YOU! Get Creative!
  • Decorate it during Holidays for a fun surprise for your visitors.
  • TWEEK! TWEEK! A profile, like your own home is always a work in progress, you will become a PROFILE Master the more you play with the customization options and get more familiar what options do what.
  • I dont want to bash those beautiful neon colors, but keep in mind using colors that are easy on the visitors eyes, they will want to stay longer.
  • When in doubt..select the HIDE USER CUSTOMIZATIONS link located at the top below the profile picture.
  • Its fun to coordinate your avie image, album cover images and profile image to "accessorize" your profile.
now for the serious stuff:police:

PROFILE RULES: The same rules apply when posting on someone's Profile page as it does when posting in the Open forums but sometimes we need a friendly reminder.
  • No Rude Comments. No Innapropriate Conversations.
  • No spamming..which includes going to random profiles and asking people to go to your contest thread, siggy shop thread or click on my egg..etc...
  • No GE Discussions..which includes..."hey you are up for my dragster..", "I posted on your GE", "Add me to your Red Lava line please.."..etc...
  • No trade room discussions.. No TRADE TALK Period.
  • No personal photos..especially in your albums.
  • Images are fun to put on profiles but make sure they are always "RATED G" and do not "hotlink" images.
  • If you are visiting a profile or your own and see a post disregarding a rule, please click on the REPORT link..we appreciate it!
What is hotlinking?
Courtesy of FIA:

"Hotlinking" is also known as "leaching" or "bandwidth theft" because it steals resources from the original site. It increases the operating cost of the original site, and it usually causes the page with the copied image to load much more slowly than it normaly would, because that site is having to take the time to look back at the original site.

Please, do not "hotlink" your images here on Webkinz Insider. We certainly don't want to have our bandwidth stolen, and we don't want it to happen to other sites either.

The use of attachments, photobucket.com (If it's your site.), and tinypic.com are fine.

I will update this thread as needed :)

Amazing job, the pictures make it so much clearer than any of the other threads I have seen on the subject. May I add one thing though? According to the FAQ, your background images can come from a public album, or a profile album. I have been using a profile album since the start, and things have been working for me.

Re: YOUR Complete Profile Guide w/Pictures, Tips & Rules!
I have a question about hotlinking. For example, if you find a picture on a website that someone took with their camera and put it on the site, you saved it and put it in your album, then you used it for your profile, would that be considered hotlinking?

Re: YOUR Complete Profile Guide w/Pictures, Tips & Rules!
Hi there Leah~ Hotlinking has to do with the web link url you use.
For example..

You want to use an image on whatever.com (<---totally made up)
The web link url to that image is: http://www.whatever.com/image.gif

Hotlinking would be posting an image with that "link" above.
What you should do is..right click on the image and choose to "save" it and save it onto your computer. You then can go to tinypic.com or whichever free link service you like and get its own new link url..example: http://www.tinypic.com/image.gif or just by uploading it directly from your computer if thats an option.

Does that make sense? lol I hope so.
The problem with this is..website owners have to pay fees to keep their site running, anyone who uses images linked to their website are using up their bandwidth space which is limited and again subject to fees, so basically its stealing.

SO as long as you saved the image onto your computer THEN uploaded the image into your album..this is fine.. BUT also, everyone needs to keep in mind just because its on the internet doesnt make it free or okay to take. Internet etiquette when searching for images online..make sure its from a site offering free images to take, most sites will have Copyright notices that Images may not be used.
