I've been seeing a lot of threads asking "How do you make this?" and "Can I do this in my shop?" etc... And I really want to talk about this. Its nothing bad, just some pointers and a bit of encouragement for all your beginners out there who are still finding who you are.
1) All graphics must be original - you may not use other members' images or images from other sites that have not been properly credited. If the original creator of the graphic is not known and the graphic appears to be commonly distributed, do not take credit for it. No face graphics unless a celeb.
Now, this doesn't really make the point I am looking for, but I bolded the part that does. Originality is the most important key. Without originality, your graphics or graphics shop would be just another follower.
I really love to look at all these talented, young, and beautiful graphics makers out here with there wonderful shops. I try to make them feel good about themselves, because no one usually orders and I try to make them feel good that they are original, and there graphics would become popular.
Here's an example: I have a friend Delilah, who makes amazing graphics! She's got a very creative mind with the way she makes her dolls, profile signatures, webkinz sprite and blinkie avvies, etc! She has a bunch of good ideas, and a lot of people love them.
Delilah is just one example. There are millions of more people out there who can make amazing and talented graphics, even with places like Lunapic!
- Coming up with New Ideas
Coming up with new ideas can be a tuffy. This is how it works:
1] You look at past shops that are now closed and look at why they are popular.
2] You see what kinds of things they had are most popular.
3] You see what it is, and figure out something you could make, without totally stealing there ideas.
4] If you don't know a link to where to make something, post it in the A/S or in Somebody Help section.
5] Then you start offering them in your shop, and maybe in your title you can post "The Original Owner of the ____" etc!
Coming up with an idea can be some time, and takes effort. But if you really try, you can do it, and you can be proud of yourself. Isn't that a good feeling? To be proud rather then having things in your shop somebody else does? IT IS a good feeling, and we should try to get this feeling every day.
- Being Respectful of Others
Everyone has good ideas, no matter how bad it may seem. If someone has an original idea, you should respect it, and make nice comments like 'What an amazing idea!' etc.
You really need to know why this is important. NO stealing, being mean, and nothing offensive. If you want someone to respect your idea, you need to respect their idea.
I always respect people's ideas, and never copy them, but try to become inspired. I look at it and go "Gee, they have a wonderful, creative, and original mind. It means a lot to see people like this work hard, and I am hoping they get lots of orders on it." And I really say this in my mind to everyone, no matter how popular their shop is.
- Help out my fellow graphics makers
You propably don't know this, but your fellow graphics makers do like your shop and can and will be inspired. If your good, they'll become inspired, and pass on the inspiration. Wouldn't you feel honored if someone was like 'Your amazing at graphics! You've inspired me." Isn't that a good feeling also? To know you've inspired someone. I know it is to me, and sometimes I get that, and that keeps me working hard.
Always remember if someone is asking for help, HELP THEM. Helping is the #1 priority and you can always be thanked, make a new friend, and become inspired.
