Don't press ctrl c and v at the same time.
Ctrl c is to copy the image.
Ctrl v is to paste the image.
They are two seperate operations.

Hmm,
Did you try moving the image that has been 'replaced'? The other image might be under it. If that doesn't work, search on youtube 'How to blend images in gimp'. It should be the 3rd or 4th...it's called "Gimp tutorial photo editing blending images'. I found that tutorial helpful.

Did you right click on the 'Pated Layer' in the layers menu, and click 'New Layer'? Idk if that will work or not..

No, unfortunately you can only do 2 images I'm pretty sure :/
