Had the bad experience of talking to an unfriendly WI member?
Had a fight with someone on WI?
Well, this is the thread for you! I will teach you the proper WI etiquette that we all should have!
1. Try to use capitalization and punctuation. Otherwise it can get hard to understand what you are saying.
Good example: Wow! That webkinz is $3.00 off! Bad example: you shouldnt come 2 my bday party 2day
2. Use a font and font color that is easy to read.
Good example:This is great! Bad example: This is bad! (This is bad! See? I had to make it bigger and darker!)
**Just remember not to use red or dark blue. Those colors are reserved for moderators and administrators.**
3. Respect other members, even if you don't agree to that person's opinions.
Good example: Even though I have a different feelings on that issue than you, I respect your opinions. Bad example: Ugh! You are SO dumb! Why would you EVER think that? Hannah Montana is SO much better than My Chemical Romance! They are the worst band ever!
4. Make posts that benfit the conversation (In other words: don't post your favorite band's name when the discussion is about flowers!)
Good example: Yeah! I think that Boys Like Girls are a great band too! What's your favorite song by them? Bad example: I know you're talking about Boys Like Girls, but I want to say that I had Cheerios for breakfast this morning!
2. Don't over-do the smilies ( or ) and the punctuation marks (? and !)
Example: YAYY! or OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. Don't speak in "IM language." People don't say "LOL" when they're talking!
Example: Say "Wow!" rather than "OMG, LOL!"
4. Don't be rude to other members.
Examples: You are so dumb This is a boring thread I don't like your avvie. It's weird.
5. Don't abbreviate (too much).
Example: omg, lol, rotfl, w.e., ttyl, ttfn, 2 (Oh my gosh, Laughing out loud, Rolling on the floor laughing, Whatever, Talk to you later, Ta-ta for now, to (or too or two)
6. Don't use run-on sentences!
Example: so like yesterday i went to the mall and like omg did you see that guy he was tall and was wearing a blue shirt i like pie do you like pie tomorrow is my birthday i cant wait for my birthday i like to play board games when im bored do you i do.
(Do you see anything in there that I taught you at all?)
Finally, I just want to say to be nice. People have feelings, and sometimes it can really hurt if you don't care about them.
Don't think that you can't do any of the don'ts. Just remember that it can get on people's nerves, and you don't want that to happen! It's OKAY to abbreviate and use smilies! Even I do that! Just remember to keep other people's feelings in mind!
If you are going to say something mean, or obnoxious, just think, "Would I say that to the person's face?"
