Minor vacation was wasted

went on my first vacation and won a nothing doorprise and was unable to eat buffet food. anytime I clicked on the buffet table the room went grey and the buffet table was dead center and I was able to click on the food and move it around but couldnt feed my pet, nor was it in my dock. did I do something wrong?

The prizes aren't working during the parties in the Cove. All you get is an empty box.

Getting food from the buffet is tricky. You have to feed your pet in kind of a J pattern. Take the food, drag it down and the the left to feed your pet, like you are drawing the letter J.

Other things that do work on vacation are the wheel, the souvenir shack and Rock the Boat. Beware of the ghost if you rock the boat. If your pet is ghosted, you'll need to feed him lots of candy and play some games to make him happy again.

Since this is your first vacation to the Vacation Island, you might want to know a couple of things.
If your pet is not hungry the food will not go anywhere. You can't take the food and save it for later, either. It is meant to be eaten on vacation.
Watch out for the ghost on the ship. If your pet sees him it will knock your Happiness right off the map (down to 0). The best thing to do in a case like that is go to play a few games and feed him some marshmallows until his happiness is at an acceptable level again.
Some people say a spa treatment is the fastest way, but it is also the most expensive way.
The raffles not distributing prizes has been an ongoing frustration for many users, here. It is an issue that Ganz is addressing, albeit slowly.
