Yes German shepherds are also in the group with the Pit Bull, and rotts because it's breed to be mean for police officers. But I think all of these breeds are very misunderstood.I think that they are mean because they have been mistreated sometimes by there owners. They can also be mean because they haven't been trained propperly. If the owners would take sometime to care for them propperly then I am sure there would be less dog attacks.
Also You should know what your dog likes and doesn't.If your dog doesn't like other dogs then don't be another dog.(All of these dogs this thread talks about shouldn't have other dogs in the house with it.) Most dog attacks happen with young children because they look the dogs in the eyes.Looking a dog in the eyes is considered a threat to them.

You're absolutely right. I wasn't a fan of the Rottweiler when it came out, not because of the breed, just because the plush didn't really make me really want one. I'm also against animal abuse and all of that. Or judging some sort of animal. I definitely agree with you with Ms. Birdys Assistiant..some of those words are just innapropriate for like little 5 year olds or a little older. I like really get what you're saying..I never even thought of it this way! Good point.

Rottweiler's are so cute!
I think a rottweiler was a children's book character. That or a fake rottweiler.
My mom claims that I met a rottweiler when I was a baby, and it didn't harm me.
Not all rottweilers are bad.

In general, I have never met a bad dog, only bad owners....nothing is more true...The behavior that some domesticated animals display is a result of the way they are trained/treated. It is a learned behavior or reactionary to the way they have been treated....not necessarily natural

It's actually good they're portraying the Rott as a cute lovable pet a child would want. It's breaking the stereotype of them being "killing machines."

I would never own a Rott personally, I am a yorkie person. But we did get one for our collection.

I don't like it when rottweilers and pit bulls get bad reputations, because some really sick and mean people decided to abuse some of them, and made them mean. It was not the dogs' fault, that it turned out that way! If humans wouldn't mis-treat their animals, they wouldn't be vicious! Not all rottweilers and pit bulls are mean, and the ones that are, were abused by humans.

I am allergic to dogs, but I love all dogs! I love to watch Animal Planet! If I wasn't allergic (and asthmatic), I would own a bunch of dogs, of varying breeds!

I have a Webkinz Rottweiler, and his name is Champ. :rott:

My family does Animal Rescue (we've fostered about 200 puppies and dogs for local rescue groups in the last 18 months) and I would never have thought of the Rottie as a "controversial" dog, much less a controversial animal, and most certainly not a "controversial" virtual pet-- that seems a little silly to me!

Didn't anyone read the "Carl" books as kids? That is what I think of when I think of a Rottie.

---------- allieptx added 6 Minutes and 26 Seconds later ----------

oops... meant to add that having had tons of experience with most breeds, if I had to choose a dog to make a lifetime commitment to, I would pick both a Rottie and a German Shepherd over a Husky *any* day!!!!!

I agree. Dogs with owners who lack leadership can end with an agressive dog...or a fearful dog that could bite. (I am a Brittany Spaniel breeder). Every dog has a bite threshold and I see more smaller dogs getting away with saucy behavior because the growl is not as intimidating from a smaller dog. But the breed itself is not bad, it just gets a bad rep because a bite from a bigger dog can cause more damage than a bite from a small dog. I think getting people educated about dog behavior is a good thing.

Oh yea, Also. For the Record. A Petition was started here on WI to Bring the Rott to life and a lot of people signed. I believe it was sometime late last year.
GREAT post. My family was also very excited to see a Rottweiler webkinz. Our Rottweiler Sampson was the best dog I have ever owned (we also lost him to cancer ) I have never had a dog so intelligent and loyal. He was amazing with our kids. I could go on and on about how special a well bred, well trained Rottweiler is. Unfortunaltey, they fall in to the wrong hands sometimes and bad people train bad dogs. Like you said, there are only BAD owers.
