It is a random teacher's pet badge. My friend received one also. I take my pets to the academy every day and still have not received it yet. But it is a teacher's pet badge I would imagine it is earned when your pet does really well at the academy.

If you finish a class, you get the teacher's pet badge. You don't get anymore after you have already completed one class and got the badge.

Wow I have completed several classes with several different pets and I still have not gotten this badge. Hopefully I will soon.
