When I first went to find one for my son, I was surprised by the price tag of the Webkinz Jr. I could not justify spending $27.99 (plus taxes) on a "just because" gift. I had seen the tour and had read from people here on Webkinz Insider about the website. I think the idea behind Webkinz Jr is fantastic. And since Jessica (jessicabarnheart) said that Ganz gears the website specifically for the age of THAT child ... well I was definitely sold on it.
Luckly, my son's birthday is less than a week away. I can justify spending that kind of money on it. I bought it even before reading this thread. Now I'm even happier that I bought it (again, after reading so much about the website and doing research).
As for spending a lot of money on educational toys; I have spent a lot of money on educational and noneducational toys. It depends a lot on why my son or daughter wants it, just how important it is to them and if at the time I can afford it. I have spent $70 on a Speed Racer race track because that is all my son wanted for Christmas. He also received other gifts though. My daughter is too young to really pick up big ticket items, but she has her fair shair of dolls and such. In regards to educational toys, I have spent as much as $100 on a single toy because of how far it could advance my child.
I don't know. I guess in the end, if the $27.99+ (depending on the store) is too expensive for your (a general you - no one in particular) taste, than don't spend the money on it. Unfortunately, complaining to Ganz about the price of something wont really change anything. A lot of thought goes into what to price things. Like mostbusinesses that offer products, they probably tell stores the "suggested price" but it's the store that decides how much to sell things for. Sure, some things I find to be expensive and over priced, so I just don't buy them.
Anyhoo, that's just my two cents in this conversation. Hope you all have a wonderful Friday | | | 06-05-2009, 10:00 PM | #22 | Kittycat45503 Webkinz :) Join Date: Feb 2009 Posts: 18 | Re: $30.00?! I don't see the point why it is so expensive.
That makes no one wanting to buy it. | | | 06-05-2009, 10:24 PM | #24 | Gifted Join Date: Aug 2008 Posts: 2,699 | Re: $30.00?! I do think they are overpriced. $30 is a lot for a toy for a toddler. But it is an educational toy that provides access to an online world, and if you say that they are double the size of a $15 Webkinz, then I guess double the price would make sense. | | | 06-08-2009, 10:21 PM | #25 | MAMA's in Heaven now Banned Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 13,243 | Re: $30.00?! I have to agree as i think 30 is a bit much....but then around here I pay 14-18 for a webkinz and 11-15 for a little kinz....
I do find it sort of funny ( not really) that once webkinz really took off GANZ raised their prices....
I remember buying webkinz for 10.99 and lilkinz for 6.99
as for the JR's I have them not adopted yet anyway not sure I am going to as I am expecting a niece or nephew soon and my step son and new bride weill have kids soon also...so I may keep them for the kids.... | | | 06-09-2009, 07:51 AM | #26 | Brooke, you're Gifted Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 9,753 | Re: $30.00?! There price is high, but the site is so thoughtful and educational that it's not that bad. I'm a bit older than that range, a few years. Anyhow, I think they're so big, that that is probably only a little bit more than what it costs to make them. They are a bit to pricey, 25 might be better. Anyway, there are parents who think their kid will benefit from this, and I think ganz has put out something helpful. If you want one and you can afford it, ask your parents to buy you one webkinz jr. instead of 2 or 3 webkinz. I hope this helps. | | | 06-12-2009, 10:33 AM | #28 | I <3 Billy Mays Banned Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 1,376 | Re: $30.00?! I still haven't been able to go on, I think there's either a glitch or my secret code is messed up or something. I got a blue puppy during the extravaganza weekend in May, and it's been over a month and still no access. So I wouldn't know if it was worht what I paid ($24.99) I am going to call Ganz today and probably harass the rep | | | 06-12-2009, 11:28 AM | #29 | L E A H ! !
