Well, there are mini "challenges" throughout the game. (They sometimes appear on the right side of your screen) If you complete a challenge, sometimes the prize is a bonus chip!

You need to complete a challenge.

On the right is a box and once in a while it will have a challenge and various prizes like...bonus chip, clear lines, extra points....

So if it says Clear exactly 3 lines to get a bonus chip....you have to do exactly that within in the time frame to get your bonus chip...otherwise you wont get it...if you dont do exactly what it wants within the time frame.
