Default Slowing Macintosh for KA

I learned of an easy way to slow modern Macintosh computers to make KA classes easier.
This will only work for Mac OS X.
Run the Terminal application found in your Utilities folder.
At the Terminal prompt type
Yes > /dev/null &
With your mouse select the text you just typed and copy it to the clipboard
Press return
Terminal will print a line of numbers and give you another prompt
Paste your text in again and press return

The Yes command is a simple command that sends the character Y where you tell it. In this case the special /dev/null is a Unix black hole that dead ends whatever is sent to it. The & sign runs the Yes command in the background which returns the prompt to the user.

On my Macintosh I have to start 15 of these Yes threads in order to slow the machine. When you want your computer to run full speed again simply close the Terminal application.

Minor amendment that makes this procedure much easier. The Terminal remembers the last line you typed. You only have to hit the UP arrow key to recall the last command. That is the 'yes > /dev/null &'. It even remembers after you close Terminal and reopen it the next day. So once you enter the command you only have to hit UP arrow Return.

Do you think this slows it enough to be able to do the weight lifting class? I have resorted to using my trusty pc laptop for that class. Also, I can never complete the spelling class on my mac, I always get the "please wait" message. I always use the pc for that as well.

The Strength Weight-Lifting class is definitely the hardest on my mac - WAY too fast. I found a suggestion from someone else on this site - I open at least 5 other windows to disney.com. (or anything that is streaming a video). By opening and streaming so many things at a time, it slows down the class. I'm only a few away from graduating my 2nd pet in Strength - so this works too!

It definitely works for Weight-Lifting. I use it every day now so I even added Terminal to my Dock. So long as you don't use terminal for other things it is super easy. You only have to press the up arrow key followed by return. 10 to 15 times should do it.

I think weight lifting is easy. Probably because I've gotten used to it. I'll definitely try this.
