You do Style Class, but it is not needed. I have heard in the KinzVille Academy Section that you can just do random clothes because the judges judge you randomly!

In regards to getting into the Pro competitions, neither of the Talent classes (grooming and cooking) are required (as backwards as that seems). To enter Pro Cooking, you need to have passed Level 5 in Creativity, to enter Pro Beauty, you need to have passed Level 5 in Style.

For the open competitions, no academy training is required to enter. As to what helps, it seems to be pretty random, quite honestly. I've had a totally naked pet place 2nd in the Pro Beauty, so clothes don't seem to matter, fwiw.
