Frustration with Language Class

I wish the people who come up with the word puzzles for Language class would make sure that there is only ONE way to solve each puzzle. More than once, I have connected a scrambled word to a solution that is correct, only to be told it is incorrect because there is more than one solution and I didn't pick the one they were using.

The worst part is that both times this happened, I was so thrown off and kept checking my work that I got completely flustered and could not finish the class on time. How frustrating!

Although this hasn't happened to me lately, I undertand that you are frustrated.

I skip the ones that have multiple answers. They can almost always be solved by elimination. If there is a 'secret' to Language I think it is to just keep moving. Don't dwell on the hard ones. Move on to the easy ones and come back.

This is exactly what I do. If I don't see the answer quickly, I just keep moving down the line and then go back and then match up the remaining.

Oh, I know what you mean, Nickelcat! I know what you mean. Quite a number of times now it's told me the answer was incorrect even though it was a real word--it just wasn't the word they were looking for.

I've gotten to where I can breeze thru by looking at the empty boxes first and eliminating the boxes with the most amount next to each other, like 4 boxes (letters) together then 3 etc. I don't really see how children can possibly do this class, especially with some of the words that kids couldn't possibly get.

Working backwards from the empty boxes is a great strategy. The times when I have failed the Language class were level 9 when there were no groupings of boxes. Sometimes every word is scattered and those are the most difficult.

Thanks, everyone, for the great ideas! Next time I am going to try working backwards and see if I find that easier. When I am running low on time and I only have two words left, I just guess instead of trying to figure them out. Since you get three strikes, I am bound to figure out both words without running out of strikes.

I have had this happen, too. I always look at the word to see how age appropriate it might be. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. A3
