Racing outside, I headed for the lake. Even though I knew she'd find me there, I didn't care. Maybe I'd find a hiding place or something. I kept my head down so I wouldn't trip over anything.

The squid sunk down, out of sight of even my sharp eyes, and I dipped down, skimming my talons just over the surface of the water. I pulled up after a moment, not liking the heavy feeling that the cold water gave my light feathers.

I swung around after hearing the castle doors slam shut. Drat! She was still following me! "Leave me alone, Elissa!" I yelled at her as I raced for that tree Rhee was always by. I figured I could at least try to get up it.

My ears picked up yelling from the other side of the lake. I soared towards the noise, able to see the figures but not the faces from this distance.

(Niice! Wait... is that word count? Or did you count those? xD)

I gripped the first branch tightly and tried to scramble up. No such luck. I had never been gifted in coordination. I tried again. Success! I grabbed ahold of the next one.

Aspen? Why was she climbing?

(OK. Good. I was gonna laugh if you had counted them all... xDD)

Wow. She had gotten a lot faster than I remembered. I gripped for life and continued climbing as fast as I could.

I fluttered over and perched on the top branch, peering curiously down through the branches. Elissa seemed to be chasing her. I tightly gripped the branch in my talons, getting ready to change back to human. I really did not want to fall and I'd never tried to change in a tree before.

I looked down. She was at the bottom of the tree now, a huge smirk on her face. She was waiting for me to fall out. It would happen any time now.

I changed back slowly, switching my grip on the branch from my talons to my fingers as they grew from the ends of my wings. "Aspen," I hissed down once the change was complete.
