I looked up from the stack of parchment in front of me and to the mounted clocks, considering their purpose—everything’s purpose, why everything was suddenly here on the highest clock tower. Why I was here, holding these obstructions out in front of me like offerings, why the clocks were here, defying silence and continuing to move while the world had stopped. Mine had, anyway. My world had stopped, mine had.
I took a step towards the clocks. They were more like birdhouses with a small wristlet nailed in at the top. I kneeled down, managing to see them all for what they were in the darkness. I noticed they were all the same on the exterior: small, bronze bordered clocks with Roman numbering. They were quite ordinary, perhaps then, extraordinary as they all kept the same time and they all moved at different paces. It wasn’t possible, and yet it was. But it didn’t keep my interest for long. The stack of letters in my grip soon felt like lead. Like I wasn’t only carrying nine months of communication, but also life. Like I was holding a child. Two children. I reminded myself gruffly. I was holding the time it took for two children to make their way into the world. Two children… And a thousand lies.
The letters had all been considerably long. I hadn’t considered until now how much effort must have been put into these letters, these fabrications.
The wind was picking up, whistling along the thick blades of grass and higher along the tower’s roof shingles. The gold dials continued to spin and the oversized gears turn when I let them go. The letters, like birds or hang gliders were released from my hands. And they were gone. | | | 07-15-2009, 08:11 PM | #586 | Call me Liz Webkinz :) Join Date: Jul 2009 Posts: 782 | Re: Hogwarts [OFFICIAL] - Part 5 of Year 7 - WE ARE SO FRESH (; Misty slowly awoke. She looked over to her clock and saw it was 5:59 o'clock. As soon as it flipped to 6:00 the alarm went off. She turned it off then got up and stretched. Misty walked over to her chest at the end of her bed and changed into her school robes, walking into the common room. Misty sat down in an armchair by the fire, pulling out her quill and some parchment to finish up the 2 more feet of homework she had to finish. | | | 07-15-2009, 08:14 PM | #587 | ♂♂ ♂♀ ♀♀ Gifted Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 14,436 | Re: Hogwarts [OFFICIAL] - Part 5 of Year 7 - WE ARE SO FRESH (; Originally Posted by khwaish The sharp ticking of the nearby clocks used to drive me insane. The letters, like birds or hang gliders were released from my hands. And they were gone. The sun was almost down as I crossed the grounds, on my way back inside the castle. Glints of ight flickered above my head and made me look up, seeing letters take off in all directions from the clocktower. I watched them for a moment before turning my gaze to the tower itself, through the gears I could barely make out a figure, and who else did I know that would be off in the clocktower alone sending letters? She carefully packed it in her school bag then walked through the portrait hole, down the moving staircases, and down hall after hall until she reached the Great Hall. Careful to find a seat away from all others and as far from the Slytherin Table as possible, Misty sat down and filled her plate with scrambled eggs, french toast, hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy. She slowly ate all her food and drank her orange juice then sat in the Great Hall for a bit, occasionally munching on some bacon. Finally, the large clock ticked 7 o'clock and she got up and left the Great hall. She went to her classes, then finally was on her way back to the hufflepuff common room. Climbing through the portrait hole and going up the stairs to her dormitory, she set her stuff on her bed and sat down, deciding what to do now. Misty decided on going to the lake and went down to the common room and out down the moving staircases. When she finally made it to the front doors, Misty pushed them open and ran to the Lake, the breeze running through her long hair. She loved running through the field but it took her breath away. Quietly, she looked over the lake, remembering the stories of the giant ship breaking through the water and of the Goblet of Fire. | | | | | | Tags | (: hellobrooklyn., (:rosalinawinters., best rollplay, cookiecrumbles, fred and george!!, harry potter rocks!, hogwarts, hufflepuff pwns., jake starrleaf, jake starrleaf pwns, maine was here, miss puggles, ravenclaw pwns!, rheelettydelizarbengil, ♥ jesus 4eva! ~hpf | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | | | Thread Tools | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off
