I quickly made my way back to the castle; I'd spent the afternoon in Hogsmeade, warning Fawk. I was feeling a little jumpy, hoping no one notice me. If Jaden knew where I'd been, she'd know what I had been up to, and I knew she wouldn't approve of it in the least bit. I wasn't sure if I myself approved of it, but I was doing what I had to do. Fawk was my brother, and I wasn't about to sell him out with giving him a warning first.

"Oh, it's... yeah, um. I was just walking back to the castle..." I trailed off. I looked at him a moment before I got that feeling in my stomach again; there was no denying how nerveous and anxious I felt. "Mac's been accused of being a Death Eater," I blurted out, unable to keep it to myself for a fraction of a second.

I scribbled a quick conclusion at the bottom of the scroll of parchment I was writing on and scrawled my name at the top. I weighted down the ends so they wouldn't curl up and left the essay out on the table to dry, dropping my bag on my chair so no one would take my spot and leaving the common room.

"Yeah," I agreed, pulling myself up out of the water and onto the dock. "Like... Thomas Judd. That one's pretty stupid."

"That's scary," I said, remembering how my parents put Brett into isolation after he'd been accused.
