Pawstep by pawstep, inch by inch, I crept closer to the squirrel nibbling a nut at the base of a beech tree. A sharp snapping noise sounded as my paw landed on a twig. The squirrel was instantly on red alert. It stuffed the nut into its mouth and raced for the safety of the tree. In two bounds I was on it, leaping up to snag it with my claws a heartbeat before it was out of reach. I killed it with a swift bite to the neck. I sniffed my prey, the warm scent tempting. But I knew I wasn't allowed to eat until the Clan had been fed. With a sigh I buried the dead squirrel, the earth masking the enticing smell. I stood up and realized that I was near the WhisperClan border. I wondered if Softpaw was there. I'll just take a look, I thought, padding towards the border. | | | |

I was almost there when I spotted a nice plump rabbit. The food pile was getting low, so I decided to take a little detour. I crouched down and inched toward the rabbit.
