My teacher told us to SHOW, not TELL. That applies here, too.
good: Passion has medium-darkish brown chin-length hair that she often wears her yellow pansy chain with. She has beige skin, but it often turns yellow-ish in the sun. She is about 5 foot 3" and a little on the thin side. She has green eyes. She's convinced that she's ugly, but, really........... she's kinda cute. She's not all that fast, tough. Bad:
brown hair, usually puts flowers in it, green eyes. Until next time, --Hammer Bro's (self-proclaimed) No. 1 fan Smile! Don't be a robot, because then you just sound amatuer. Bad: Lulu has brown hair. She has brown eyes. Her skin is pale. Bla bla bla. Good: Lulu's (in her opinion) mud colored hair comes down to mid back, with long bangs that fall into her chocolate eyes. Her eyes sparkle when she's excited. Lulu's skin is ivory, in sharp contrast with the freckles across her nose. Bla bla bla. | | | 02-15-2009, 05:59 PM | #143 | Guest | Re: Character 101--How to make really great characters for role-plays i have made up lots a charecters like ammi and pilkie | | | | 02-15-2009, 07:28 PM | #144 | NaNo WC: 50,000! Other times I'm just not in the mood and they are real short and simple. XD
One thing which i find good for making a good character: Create a personality and stick to it!
For example, dont make all your characters say random things or be shy one time and lively another.
examples:
One character I have is really really happy and bubbly, I mean she'll be skipping along singing now caring whos listening, or she'll be looking at some random thing andmaking over-extereme comments about it. She's always in a good mood, and is over bubbly, plus is full of wittu\y comments. I always make sure to make her pwersonality stand out.
Another character I have is really stubborn and mean and...unpleasant to say the least XD He'll always be grumbling off about something or other. He's pretty much always in a bad mood.
Then i have characters who are witty but smart, in their own ways.
I have characters that amuse themselves by picking at others in harmless ways,
And ones who are really really shy. Its fun to Play out differnt personalities, and it always makes things interesting!

They're usually outsiders, and rather mysterious. Then, I take an animal or character, mash in another, and another, and then add a few twists. If they're the sort of character that wears clothing (i.e. Redwall or human) then be sure to describe their usual outfit, maybe if they wear earrings or a necklace. If your roleplay includes magical powers, make your character's powers unique. You can make a character based on yourself, or what you want to be.
For names, try a word in your character's traits, except in a different language. And maybe another. Then combine the names. You could also have two different traits, in the same language, and mix them together. You could also take words and make anagrams of them.
Hope this helped! | | | 02-16-2009, 03:42 PM | #146 | Babydow: Leah5112 Webkinz :) Join Date: Aug 2008 Posts: 1,385 | Re: Character 101--How to make really great characters for role-plays okay! cool tips thanks! cool thread! | | | 02-21-2009, 10:55 AM | #147 | Team Lauren Alaina : Gifted Join Date: May 2008 Posts: 8,085 | Re: Character 101--How to make really great characters for role-plays My three favorite RPing characters so far:
Smudgypelt- A pure white tom with smudges all over his pelt. (Perfect name.)
Icepool- A pure white she-cat whose eyes are like pools of blue.
Hazelpaw- A she-cat medicine cat apprentice whose pelt is Hazel.

The Halo Effect is when people are so... mesmerized by one quality of this person [beauty, for example.] that nothing else matters.
