On Saturday's at my church there is a deaf interpreter that is there.
My grandpa lost a lot of his hearing because he was a builder and all the noise of the construction made him lose mosty of his hearing. But he got this really Hi-Tech hearing aid so he can hear a lot better.

It IS irritating when you are talking to someone and they look away! What, am I boring you ? ?

I won't say that I'm sorry your deaf. You are teaching us so much that I can't be sorry for that! I would only say to you the same as I would say to anyone that has challenges, that I am sorry things aren't more adaptable for everyone. My father can't walk due to a childhood illness. He had polio long before there were immunizations for it. I am sorry for him that it is so hard for him to get around. He faces challenges everyday because our environment is not adaptable for his challenges. People stare at him all of the time. Anytime he is riding around on his scooter, people stare. They stare at him when he is trying to get in and out of a car, because we have to help move his legs... I can't say I'm sorry that his muscles don't work - because there's nothing that can be done about it. I can say I'm sorry that people don't just accept that none of us are perfect and many of us face challenges.

I have to admit that I would stare if I saw you signing! Actually, what I would do is watch in admiration at the beauty of your speech

**** Ok on to a question! Your writing is very easy to understand even though the grammar is different. Is it ever hard for you to understand what we are writing? Since our grammar with speech is different than ASL - just wondering if we are being too 'wordy' at times I know you have a high reading level, but I was just wondering if our 'language' is ever confusing to you?

That is not embarrassing. Once my sister was at a sleepover, and she started talking and moving in her sleep ! Some people even sleepwalk!

I agree.

I hate it when people stare. It's so annoying and rude to stare. Sometimes people even point!

I'm wondering the same thing.

I admit I'd stare too, but I'd stare in fascination and, like Kayembee said, the beauty of it .

About say sorry. I agree that some can't walk or talk or have problem but I not say sorry. Everyone have challenge and must do best with their able. That is what I mean. But people find I am Deaf and immediate say Oh I'm so sorry. They don't walk up to person can't walk and say oh I so sorry you not walk. I seem not right. I not say oh so sorry you hear. I know my life different but that is ALL just different.

I also understand people like watch sign language. It beautiful language, but ignorant some wiggle finger at me and friends and laugh not nice. If come up and try sign something that much better. If can only fingerspell name that ok too but NOT laugh and act as we stupid and weird. Really it make them look stupid.

Reading: sometimes reading is difficult and I need read again and again before understand. If I not understand I have mom read and then tell her what I think it mean and correct me or tell me if right. Some english very different but here read is pretty easy. Most time it is novel I have hard time with. But take my time and make sure enjoy story.

Wow. How much does ASL language and grammar differ from ours? Such as how you write and how we do? Can you read what we write easily?

Hmm, maybe I didn't get my point across very well I agree with you all the way! I am sure it is very annoying to have people constantly telling you that they're sorry. What I was trying to point out was the differences that people have. Some walk, some don't - some talk, some don't - some hear, some don't - some see, some don't.......there is no reason for anyone to be sorry As you said, everyone must do the best they can.

You're right, people don't usually approach my father and tell him they are sorry he doesn't walk. They just point and stare. It really is too bad that people can be so ignorant. Rest assured, if I am ever lucky enough to encounter someone signing, I will do the best I can to at least say hello!

Well, you are not alone with the reading comprehension of novels! I myself have to re-read things occasionally in order to try to figure out what the writer is actually trying to say!

I think you'd be surprised at how much those other people hear "I'm sorry" too

You know the friend I told you about? The one who has one arm? He told me that sometimes when he gets on a train, other people leave the car! Because he's missing an arm! Like they're going to catch something and their arms will fall off too??? People point and stare and whisper about friends of mine who have different disabilities, or about friends who dress differently, or are from other countries. People also point and stare at friends who look "perfect." -Anyone who doesn't "blend in" gets pointed at and stared at and whispered about. People don't usually walk up to them in Public and say they're sorry about how they are, but sometimes they do. Or they tell my friends how much they admire them for being "so brave" -And my friends want to punch them Lol! My friends are just having a normal regular life!

I guarantee you that if someone started a thread here with the title "Learn about being Blind!" or "Learn about living without Legs" or "Learn about living with dwarfism" -There would be a whole bunch of people posting there and saying they were "sorry" about them too.

Yes I understand all people say sorry to other have challenge. I mean make clear it bug me. That all. I not think Deaf only people other say sorry for. I just agree ebaday and kayembee that all have challenge not do good say sorry. Just accept move on do thing different with that person. But people with challenge not need other feel sorry or pity for them that not helping them. Having positive attitude will do more help than anything. I think... how can we _________....NOT think...oh YOU can't do that....

I understand. It bugs me when people say "Sorry that you can't do this or that" to me. Although I do not have any disabilities - there are a lot of things I am not able to do and I am not aloud to do. I had a friend who went to my public school and he was deaf. He could hear a little and was very good at lip reading. He was also a very talented reader. He would read during class!! The teacher sometimes had to stand there and try to yell at him in his mike but he would turn off his hearing aid so he can not hear us! LOL! I guess that is one perk - ignoring people is easy! LOL!
