Actually Easter is also a converted holiday. It was/is the Spring Equinox also called Festival of Trees and The Feast of Eostra & Ishtar. Ishtar was a Babylonian Goddess and her name was converted to the Christian spelling Easter because of the misinterpreted pronunciation of Ishtar

Please don't take offense to this but... wouldn't a religious school only teach the history according to their beliefs no matter the religion? I'm truly not picking on yours I think all religions slant history according to their beliefs, it's human nature.

Also historically documented fact...the Roman Pagan-Christian converts were done by force, not by choice. Yes they did keep the same holidays to try to smooth over the convertion but the pagans were not allowed to keep celebrating their holidays their way and were killed if they would not comply.

Sorry I'm going way off topic of your club everyone! Like I said, I've studied a lot of different religions and find them interesting I'll quit with the history lesson as to not bore you all! LOL

Actually, the Catholics I've met are interested in all sorts of history.

The conversion was not necessarily forced, but Pagans were no longer allowed to hold government positions or join the army which caused many, many Pagans to rethink their religious choices in favor of something that gave them more political freedoms. Besides, it's nothing worse than what the Romans did with the Christians when they first came to be. Crucifictions, cast into the sea, fed to the lions, etc.

According to religioustolerance.org, the holidy has Pagan and Judeo-Christian roots. For the Jews, the week before is Passover. For the Catholics, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday are observed that week .For the Pagans, it's observed earlier. Many of the customs that have become tradition have Pagan roots, but the holiday itself is of Christian nature.

Anyway, just out of curiousity, what made you think Wicca was the right religion for you?

I just sort of hope thing. Like "I hope I don't epically screw up on the oral Spanish PALS" or "I hope that I get a better score than I did last time on the mile." (Btw, I succeded in both of them)

Sort of. We've been learning about different religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jewish, and I think we have some others) but that's now...

That's cool. I inherited this obsession of world religions from my Mom so I find that kind of stuff fascinating. I especially love Judaism. Honestly, if I wasn't so stubborn and didn't like being Catholic so much I would so be Jewish.
