First of all, tell your son good luck! Braces can be a pain, but they are totally worth it in the end. I just got mine off last week, & I can't quit smiling now!
If you want to check the front page, our members have posted tons of suggestions for what & what not to eat, colors, etc...some of it is pretty helpful!
& about the spacers vs. braces question - braces were worse for me, but that was probably because my teeth were already pretty spaced out. It kind of depends on the person, but usually it's the braces that are worse. Don't worry though, it's not too bad! Eat lots of ice cream!

I haven't had spacers, but I've heard they're really bad. Braces never really bother me. The worst was when I got my bottom braces, otherwise I've been pretty good. Except when I had surgery on my teeth which was annoying. | | | |

thx :cmunk:-He chose these icons, & the :cmunk: is his fav webbie.  Braces aren't that bad. They are bad for the first couple tightenings, and once you get familiar on how to eat, and the first day pains go away, braces are fine!
They TOTALLY pay off in the long run though!
