Spread your fingers as wide as they will go when you contact the ball.
Keep your elbow high, so the ball with clears the net.
I find it better to "walk" into your serve. This may be taking a few steps as you contact the ball, or simply pushing forward on your oppisite foot. This gives you more power.

You may also want to find a "routine" for your serve.
Mine is simply hitting the ball at the floor a few times before I serve.
Some people roll the ball on there fingers, or dribble it like a basketball.
Its supposed to get you into the "zone" or something.

For me, it depends how well I'm serving. I like that pressure when your pushing five, but if I'm flustered about something that happened earlier in the game then I'd rather sub.
