Yes, I agree that you can go a lot longer than 50 filled cards to get a trophy - it took me about two months to get the last one, playing at least a couple times a day, but then, sometimes I have gotten 2 or 3 in a week, but not since the change. I wonder if the change has decreased the chances of getting a trophy?

I read somewhere that a trophy is given out on average one out of every 50 filled cards. 
That seems about right for the amount that I play. 
You actually get a fair amount of KC each time you play and go for a trophy. I get about 100 KC by the time I fill a card in about 10 minutes.
