Congratulations....

I also just won my first Zacky's Quest trophy last night too! Just like you, I was getting up to the last level and literally just giving all my men away to those stinking birds and the logs. But I realized that avoiding the vegetables and just concentrating on getting Zacky to each one of those map pieces is all you need to do in that last segment.

I also noticed some freaky things happen in that game... once one of the birds from a stump flew WAAAAYYY out of his range to the other side of the screen and carried my Zacky away!! I was thinking "HEY!!! He's not supposed to go that far!!"

Several times I jump onto logs that are moving rather fast and end up in the water but I am still in the MIDDLE OF THE LOG! I will take screenshots to prove this when I play tonight, I'm sure I can get it to happen again..... it usually does this in the last 5 screens.
