Today I got shut out though. | | | 12-08-2007, 02:35 PM | #2 | webelo3 Gift Guru Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 4,732 | Re: A no gumball trophy day I don't play OG nearly as much as you (and probably aren't as good at it) but, as you might have read, I went through a lengthy no-trophy drought. I just played the game, though, and won a trophy ... on Level 1! LOL! What are the odds of that? | | | 12-08-2007, 04:37 PM | #3 | Gifted Join Date: Aug 2007 Posts: 231 | Re: A no gumball trophy day Originally Posted by Kodiak ...a trophy ... on Level 1! LOL! To answer your question (just in case it wasn't rhetorical)...
Odd are theoretically 1 in 904 of winning a trophy at Level 1. These are the odds that Hamlet usually gives (which are in turn based on Kinz Fans' Admin Assistant rousb's probabilities, obtained directly from the Flash code from the game; rousb originally posted these back in September 2007...so we're assuming they haven't changed the code...probably a safe assumption). Aside: I say "theoretically" since, as a programmer, I know that the random-number generators behind games often don't generate very uniform random numbers! [They are all psuedo-random and some are better than others.] So, even if the game is coded to give a trophy on Level 1 with a theoretical probability of once in 904 plays, that doesn't mean the actual probability is that. | | | 12-08-2007, 08:51 PM | #4 | Gift Guru Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 1,224 | Re: A no gumball trophy day Yeah I posted about my only level 1 win the other day. It was certainly many games lol. | | | 12-08-2007, 11:00 PM | #5 | webelo3 Gift Guru Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 4,732 | Re: A no gumball trophy day Originally Posted by jillion Kodiak: I'm thinking that since Elektra didn't win any the day before, there was a great surplus of them so maybe they are handing out extras today!! LOL. You just may be on to something, Jillian. I was so shocked to win a trophy earlier today that I took a nice long break. I just played my second game of the day -- and got my second trophy! This time on level 29 in a game in which I was fortunate enough to make it through all 30 levels. Do I press my luck and try to go 3-for-3? LOL. I'll let you know if I get the hat trick. (Silence means that I'm back to my old ways). | | | 12-10-2007, 08:45 AM | #6 | Webkinz :) Join Date: Nov 2007 Posts: 60 | Re: A no gumball trophy day This is really interesting to listen to what you guys have to say. It is a very sophisticated conversation for Webkinz Insider....but I enjoy listening to it. Thanks! | | | 12-10-2007, 12:50 PM | #7 | Gifted Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 866 | Re: A no gumball trophy day It would be possible for Ganz to define a daily threshold (for the random trophy games and for things like wishing well, wheel of wow, etc), and although I doubt that they would consider anything so complex, it would have some interesting implications. It would mean that your own odds would be affected by previous games - not only your own, but others' as well. It would allow them to manipulate the odds for game-of-the-day or other promotions, and most fascinating IMO, it would mean that trophies would become less common individually as WW grows.
As I said, not a likely scenario because trophies have no "cost" to Ganz - the only value of rarity is the word-of-mouth excitement generated by trading, and the illusion of "need". | | | 12-10-2007, 03:31 PM | #8 | Webkinz :) Join Date: Dec 2007 Posts: 18 | Re: A no gumball trophy day Does it make a difference if you're playing in the tournament arena or the arcade in order to get a trophy? I've played this lots of times but never gotten a trophy and I normally play in the tournament arena, which is why I'm wondering.
Thanks! | | | 12-10-2007, 03:55 PM | #9 | Gifted Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 866 | Re: A no gumball trophy day Originally Posted by Moms2old Does it make a difference if you're playing in the tournament arena or the arcade in order to get a trophy? Thanks! No difference in any of the games that award trophies. | | | 12-10-2007, 08:47 PM | #10 | Webkinz :) Join Date: Dec 2007 Posts: 18 | Re: A no gumball trophy day Fantastic!
