Here is my method to pass level 20. First of all, let me give Hamlet a HUGE THANKS for his work on the tutorials above. It was his strategy that has really helped improve my game.
As you can see, in level 20 you have 9 guesses to guess a 6 digit number. So with every guess, you have to have the objectives of determining which numbers are in the solution & the location of these numbers.
Let's review this level. I usually start out level 20 w/ a guess of 121212, 343434, and 565656. Usually this will reveal several numbers. If you can figure out where 2 or 3 numbers go early on, the other numbers will fall into place. In this situation, since there were no 3s, 4s, 5s, or 6s, I went on to 787878. (I rarely do this in higher levels). The reason I did this here, is I prefer to find where one or two numbers belong, and then it will be easier to fit the remaining numbers in. So we know there is a 7 or an 8.
By the 5th guess, we know it's an 8, but it's not in the first position--that leaves two possibilities as to were the 8 coulb be. So with the next guess, we'll test how many 1's there are in the solution. There could be 4 or 5 ones, so we're not ready to test if there are 9's or 0's yet.
In the 6th guess, we determined there is one 1 and the 8 is not in the right place. That leaves only one possibility for the position of the 8.
In the 7th guess, we tested the position of the 1. There could have been an 8, a 1, and four 2's in the solutions, but here we discover there are three 2's. So the remaining number is a 9 or 0. Now the objective is to determine where the 1 is. Since the first guess shows two green balls, we can determine that the two correctly placed numbers are two 2's. The 1 must be in the wrong place in the first guess. The 9 or 0 must be in the place of the 1, in the first guess. So i tried the 1 in the 4th position, and since there were two red balls, and 5 balls, we know the 9 is not in the solution, the 0 goes where the 9 goes, & the 1 goes in the last postion.
I'm here to help you suceed. If you have any questions, or would like further info on how to win this game, please ask. Let me know if this post is helpful. Thanks. I have one question on it - How do you know that the first guess has two correct "2"s and not one correct "1" and one correct "2?" Excuse my ignorance.... __________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | | | 08-08-2008, 02:00 PM | #3 | Webkinz :) Join Date: Jun 2008 Posts: 93 | Re: How to pass level 20 thanks for the tip! __________________ Doddlebug12 | | | 08-08-2008, 02:02 PM | #4 | my cat is Gifted Join Date: Nov 2007 Posts: 1,521 | Re: How to pass level 20 Cool! On the 6th guess, I knew there was one 1 and three 2's. On the 7th guess, I knew that the 1 was in the wrong space, & it had to switch places with a 2. the only place the it could go was in a wrong space, according to the first guess. If a 1 and a 2 were correct in the first guess, there would be more green balls. You see, since the 8 was in the place where a 1 was in the first guess, the only place the 1 could be was in the place of a 2, in the wrong place according to the first guess. Otherwise, there would have been 3 or 4 green balls in the first guess. I'm not sure if I can clarify what I mean...When we know that the 8 is in the correct position, and the first 1 in the 7th guess is in the wrong position, the only other place it will fit is the 4th or the 6th position. Does that make sense?
thanks for you post Please ask if I don't make sense, & i'll try to clarify it for you. Try placing the 8 in it's know postion, & a 1 will only fit in the 4th or 6th position.tx.

Ok, I just found the words to explain myself better. If there was one correct 1 & one correct 2 in the first guess, that means there would be two 2's in the wrong position. But we knew by the 7th guess that the 8 was in the position of the 1, and the 1 was not in the first position, so it was impossible for the 1 to be in the right place--only the 2's were. Did I explain it clearer that time?

I think my other biggest problem is that I play this game my own way no matter how many tutorials I read. I just can't get myself to follow logic other than my own, and mine would be perfect if I had some more guesses in the later rounds. If I can clear my mind of my own way of thinking and accept someone else's, then I would probably be good at this game (which I'm not).
Your post did inspire me to play this game again today, and I had never been past level 10 before and just made it to level 19! I need to be consistent on level 10, though, for I only made it past it on a VERY lucky guess that happened to be correct. That level is very difficult, and I almost always make it to it, but never pass it. __________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last edited by monkeecj; 08-08-2008 at 08:29 PM.. | | | 08-08-2008, 07:13 PM | #7 | MWP Join Date: Jun 2008 Posts: 7,768 | Re: How to pass level 20 Originally Posted by monkeecj That does make sense now that I think about it. This game does involve a lot of luck--if you have a lot of 1'x, 2's, 3's, 4's then you'll know what numbers to try early. What's tough is if there's a guess between a 9 or 0, or two guesses that could be 99, 90, 09, or 00, so in the higher lev it does involve a lot of luck. You made it to lve 19! that is fantastic! | | | 08-13-2008, 02:20 AM | #8 | Gift Trainee Join Date: Apr 2008 Posts: 112 | Re: How to pass level 20 Originally Posted by momwhoplays Well, I'm glad that this inspired you! I have found this too that sometimes you just have to make as educated a guess has you can and cross your fingers. I use a similar strategy but I do 111222 for my first guess and then if any of those numbers are in it I then try to figure out position in the next guess all while moving on to 3's at the same time. Great strategy, thanks for sharing! | | | 08-13-2008, 02:39 AM | #9 | MWP Join Date: Jun 2008 Posts: 7,768 | Re: How to pass level 20 Originally Posted by petabode I have found this too that sometimes you just have to make as educated a guess has you can and cross your fingers.
