She held her backpack closer to her as she waited. What was he doing? What was he muttering under his breath as he searched? She didn't know. She began to drum her fingers impatiently on the coffee table as she waited. He then came back, with a small letter, and a necklace in his hand, "Nia," he said in a rough voice. "Your mother wanted me to give you to this, she told me to keep it safe until you were old enough," he held the necklace out to her. It looked like a scale, but it changed different colors. She then opened the small letter which was hanging from it. "Dear Nia," it read. Chapter 1, Give Us The Scale,
I woke up in the middle of a stormy night, the winds howling through my bedroom. I stood up, and closed the shutters tightly, shivering from a sudden gust of wind that came from my door. My name you may ask? Nia Cicida, I'm just another normal girl. Curly blond hair, pale blue eyes, pale skin, freckles, and full lips. Nothing special, some may say. Nothing anybody would take notice of, I sighed, it was 6:25 in the morning. My alarm clock would be going off soon, I might as well unplug it so it wouldn't wake my father. Where's my mother? She disappeared when I was a child. I only had a dad now. I slipped into my school uniform, and slung my messenger bag over my shoulder. My phone rang, I flipped the phone open, "Hey Natalie," Natalie is my best friend, she calls me at the exact time every day. I yawned, stretching my arms out.
"Happy birthday Nia!" she squealed, it sounded like she was already awake, "You're turning 14, oh my gosh, how time flies," she sighed.
"Calm down Natalie!" I laughed softly, shutting my door so my father wouldn't be able to hear our conversation.
"Okay, I'm having a party at my house, can you come? Please please?" Natalie pleaded,
"Fine fine fine, I'll be there." I rolled my eyes,
"Yay! Oops, gotta go, mom is telling me to get dressed. See ya!" she squealed and hung up the phone. Well, that's Natalie for you. Always the life of the party. I picked up my house keys from the nightstand and walked out of my door.
~*~
It was a long day in school, and I got a demerit for forgetting my Language Book at home. I sighed as I walked down the concrete pavement to my home, I lived in a quiet town, surrounded my trees instead of busy streets. My phone rang, "Unknown caller," I whispered to myself, probably Natalie trying to prank call me again. I rolled my eyes and flipped the phone open, "Natalie, this isn't funny," I sounded serious.
"Give us the scale, Nia," a voice hissed, I gasped and shut the phone. I flat-out sprinted back to my house. I locked myself inside of my room, panting. Maybe it was another one of my friends. Maybe it was just one of the boys trying to scare me. "It's nothing," I told myself, setting down my messenger bag on my bed. I got dressed for Natalie's party, my mind drifting off to the unknown. When my phone rang, I was pulled out of it. "Natalie," I sighed in relief, "Nia, you better not be late for your own party, don't make me come over there to get you," Natalie threatened, I laughed.
"I'm almost done getting dressed, no need to get the machete or something," I flipped my phone shut, hanging up on her. I walked out of my door, forgetting to lock the deadbolt. I walked in silence to Natalie's home, the lights were off, "Natalie, what am I going to do with you?" I rolled my eyes and opened the door. Natalie flipped the lights on,
"Surprise!" she squealed, tossing pieces of colored paper at my face, I laughed.
The party went by great, there was dancing, and we got to play a prank on one of the boys by tossing him into her pool. I looked down at my watch, "Crap!" I gasped, "My dad is going to kill me," I looked back at Natalie, "Thanks for the party, but I have to go, I'll see you on Monday," I zipped out of the front door. There were two men standing on the sidewalk, I froze in my spot, unable to move. "Who are you?" my voice was barly a whisper,
"Give us the scale, Nia, and you shall live," One of them spoke, their voice deep. I rushed pass them,
"I have no idea what you're talking about," when I accidentally touched their arms with my hand, they fell backwards. But I didn't stop to take notice, I just kept running. End of chapter 1... ~*~
Chapter 2, You Must Find Roxas,
I burst through my front door, panting. I slammed the door behind me, my hand on my chest. I noticed my father staring at me, one eyebrow raised. "Something wrong, Nia?" he asked, helping me to the living room.
"Dad," I managed to say, I looked distressed. "Some guys, after Natalie's party... They told me, to give them the scale..." my voice trailed away as I saw his eyes widen. I shook his shoulder, "Dad?" I asked.
"I'll be right back," he murmured, walking down the hall. He flung open one of the closet doors, and began rummaging through it, muttering things under his breath. I caught the words, 'Where'd I put it'. I stood in the middle of the living room, watching the fire crackle in the fireplace. I held my messenger bag closer to myself as I waited for my father to return into the room. What was he doing? What was he looking for? What was he muttering under his breath? I didn't know, I sighed. I began to drum my fingers impatiently on the coffee table. He finally came back into the room, a letter, and a necklace in his hand. "Nia," he said in a rough voice, "Your mother wanted me to give you this. I've been keeping it safe, but, now that you're old enough.." he handed me the necklace, it had a dragon scale hanging from it. There was also a letter hanging from it as well, I gently tore it open. "Nia," it read.
Dear Nia,
Nia my dearest, I am so sorry I left you. But I had to leave, I told your father to keep this safe until you were old enough to understand. Hopefully you do. Nia, you must understand this, you are in grave danger. The necklace will lead you to the egg, it is the last of its kind. Listen well, child, please. Darkness will come after you if you are not quick enough, it will try to harm you, and trick you. It takes many forms, so be on your guard. Nia, please, find Roxas.
Love,
Mom.

I looked up from the letter, clutching the scale necklace in my right hand. I looked up at my father, "Dad," I whispered,
"You must find Roxas before The Dark does," my father responded, slumping into one of the arm chairs.
"But dad, how am I supposed to find a dragon egg? How do I know that this is real? Dad! What do I do?" I asked,
"The scale is like a compass, it will guide you to the egg. Once you touch the egg, you will automatically be brought here. But that doesn't mean The Dark will stop chasing after you. They will try to take the egg, and use it for evil." my father's forehead creased with worry,
"But.. you'll come with me, right?" I asked, slipping on the necklace.
"No." Was all he said to me, my heart nearly stopped. How was I supposed to find this egg alone? What if... What if I never came back? What would happen then? Most of all, why had my mother left us? Why me?! So many questions flew through my mind, I was suddenly dazed. "You must leave at moon high, The Dark will not be expecting you to leave by then."
"But, Dad.." I whispered, it was clear on my face, I was afraid. "What if I don't come back? What about Natalie? What will happen..."
"I'll tell them that you have the flue," my father replied, he opened a suitcase that had a long black cloak, with a hood. The inside of the cloak was blood red. He handed it to me, "Put this on," He ordered, throwing it at me. I hesitated, but put it on, finally tying a string which kept it on securely. He then handed me a sword, with a black handle and a white blade. "Once the scale turns green, you will be taken back in time, Your journey starts there," he told me, handing me the sword. I couldn't believe it, was I dreaming? My father surely wouldn't let his own daughter out there, and talk about so calmly. He seemed so sure of himself, but, what if I failed? I still hadn't grasped the thought, I shook my head, clearing it. The scale lifted off of my neck, and was hovering in front of my eyes. "Time for you to go, hurry, Nia," he kissed my forehead, and hugged my tightly.
"I'll try, dad," I nodded, clearing my throat. I glanced out of the window, the moon was already risen, "Goodbye dad," I whispered, zipping out of the back door. End of chapter 2...

Chapter 3, Get Away From Me,
I slammed the backdoor behind me, I was standing in darkness now. I glanced up at the full moon, oddly enough, there were no stars tonight. I sighed, the scale was still levitating in front of my eyes. It seemed to pull me into the forest, it probably would've dragged me if I didn't keep my feet moving. When it finally plopped down back onto the hollow base of my throat, I stood up strait. I didn't remember coming here in all my time I've lived in California. My dad wasn't the hiking type, and neither was I. The scale then began to change colors, from blue, to red, and finally, to poison green. I closed my eyes tightly, waiting for whatever was to come. I then felt wind whip across my face, like if I was falling. But I didn't feel the sensation, there was five seconds of silence. I opened my eyes and noticed I was standing on a beach. There were no people, no lifeguards, nothing. "How odd," I whispered to myself. Suddenly, I heard a slight clang, almost as if it were from a sword. I gasped and whipped around, blocking a man's blow with my white blade.
"I have offered this to you one, here it is again. Give us the scale, and your life will go on as if this never happened." he growled,
"Never!" I swung my sword at him. It wasn't like taking Fencing when I was a child, but I was close enough. He swung at my legs, and I jumped up, it wasn't as easy as taking jump rope. He swung at my arm, cutting it. I winced, "Get away from me," the winds began to howl, and the waves were now reaching higher up the shore. For a second, I thought the scale was controlling me. But I knew everything I was doing, but not fully. I held out my hand, palm facing forward.
~*~
After that, everything seemed so confusing. It took me a while to piece everything together. Something that looked like white fire shot out of my hand. But, unlike regular fire, it didn't burn the driftwood which was lying around the man's feet. He screamed in pain and disappeared in a cloud of black. I looked down at my palm, it was unscathed, not even the slightest burn. A sudden feeling of weakness swept over me, and I moaned. What had happened? How did I produce the strange white fire? I was deep in my thoughts. When the necklace was rising in front of my eyes again, I was immediately pulled out of them. It pulled me to a sections of rocks that surrounded a black hole, if not near enough, would be mistaken for a tide pool. I looked down the hole and grounded. The necklace pointed down, "Crap, don't tell me I have to jump down that?!" I was deadly afraid of heights. The necklace pulled down, with more force this time. I gulped, and stepped forward.
I was falling now.
The wind whipped past my cheeks, almost burning my eyes. But I was too afraid to close them. I looked around me, the rocks were crystal clear, and small crystals spiked out of them. If I wouldn't have been falling, I would've been able to see them more clearly. What would I hit? Ground, or water? Hopefully water, ground would be more painful. I shuddered at the thought, then, without any time to take a breath, I was underwater. End of chapter 3...

Chapter 4, Welcome To Apakoh!
As I opened my eyes under the water, I realized that everything was crystal clear. The seaweed, even the grains of sand at the bottom. But my mind kept telling me, I needed air. I tried to resurface, but there was something clear blocking my way. Something that felt like five-inch-thick glass. My face was turning purple, and I sank to the bottom of the unusual pool. I felt my eyes close, it all would end, wouldn't it? You failed, Nia, a deep voice echoed through my mind as I pushed against the darkness that threatened to overwhelm me. I had to open my eyes, but I couldn't. You weren't quick enough, a different voice echoed. And now your loved ones shall die, another voice hissed. No, I would never give up! I would make it, I had to, for my mother. I felt something prod my arm, not hard, but as if someone were checking if I was still alive. I coughed up water, and gasped in the clean air. I opened my eyes, and saw a small elf-like creature staring at me. She shrieked, and I did the same.
"Shut up!" I heard another voice hiss. "You're going to wake Namine' up," I sat up, oddly enough, my cloak was now blood red, and the inside was black. I looked at my outfit, it was a long-sleeved white dress, that reached down to my ankles. I then looked down at my feet, and realized that they were black ballerina slippers. I looked next to me, there was a sleeping dragon, probably the size of my room back at home. She was a sickly white color. Oh. This must be Namine', I looked over at the creature who was staring at me. It looked like a small child, with freckles, and dimples. She was sitting with her legs crossed, grinning widely at me. I swallowed,
"Where am I?" I finally asked.
~*~
The elfish creature grinned, she clasped her hands together. "Welcome to Apakoh!" she squealed, there was a sparkle of happiness in her dark blue eyes.
"Will you shut up?" ANother voice from behind me spoke, I turned around. The elf-like creature looked like a child, about a year older than the one with the blue eyes. But this was had long wavy brunette hair that reached down to the middle of her back, and dark brown eyes. She seemed to be quite irritated, "I already told you that you're going to wake Namine' up," she was stroking the large sickly-white dragon's nose. She looked so peaceful, so loving, the dragon reminded me of my mother. Well, what I remembered, at least. Her large head was resting beside my leg, and her long tail was curled around something silver... "Would you at least take the time to whisper?" the irritated creature asked.
"Aw, you always ruin the fun, Delia." the blue-eyed child crossed her arms and pouted. The dragon's nose twitched, and her eyes fluttered open.
"Now look what you did!" Delia threw her hands in the air, the two children began bickering. I looked down at the dragon's head, and rested my hand in the space between her eyes. Namine' sighed, and nuzzled the side of my leg. She looked sick, maybe she was dying... Even though I didn't know the dragon, I felt a connection with her, almost and unbreakable bond.
"Let the child speak," her voice was as soft as velvet, but she sounded weak. "Delia, Fawn," she looked over at the two children, who immediately fell silent. So the blue-eyed one must be named Fawn, I inhaled. "She must be very confused, just look at her," she inclined her head towards me. It was true, it was as if the words were written on my face. I was confused, when I read the note my mother gave me, it didn't have much detail on why I had to find this egg. The one named Fawn tugged on my sleeve,
"Come come then," she said, "We have a lot to teach you." I stood up, and let her lead me by the arm into a crystal cavern. End of chapter 4...

Chapter 5, Who Is That?
I reluctantly followed the elfish creatures into the cavern, inside, everything sparkled and glinted. There was a small pool directly ahead of us, "Do you know why you were chosen to protect the egg?" The one named Delia asked, stepped up to the pool.
"Not really," I admitted sheepishly, it was true, the only thing my mother wrote for me was to find Roxas. Whoever that was, I shrugged.
"Look down into the water," Fawn spoke up, pointing a small finger at the sparkling pool. I obeyed,
"Now, tell us what you see," Delia ordered, she was sitting on a rock, her legs dangling an inch above the ground. I hesitated, the only thing I saw was the water. Nothing else, I looked up at them, then back down at the water. An image began to form, there was an elf-like creature, running through the forest. She had dark green eyes, and flaming red hair. I looked up,
"Who is that?" I asked, pointing down at the image. Delia hopped off of the rock she was sitting on,
"That's Delatrix," she replied, her hands clasped behind her back.
"Who's Delatrix?" I asked, a flash of confusion crossing my face.
"She was our sister," Fawn replied in her trill high voice, "Would you like to know why we're showing you this?" she asked. I looked back down at the image, but it had disappeared. I then looked up at Fawn's unreadable expression, and nodded.
"Twelve years ago, your mother found Namine's egg. Once the Dark found out, they went after her with relentless persistence. This was when dragons thrived. But, when the leader of The Dark, a man named Scandar, found out that a dragon would be born with the power of light, he set out to find it before it even hatched. He destroyed every dragon in his path. Delatrix was our sister, and she had the power of knowing. She saw what Scandar was planning, and set out to find her," Delia looked up at me.
"My mother?" I asked, fingering the scale which was hanging on my neck. Delia nodded, and she continued.
"She saw Namine', and what she would become. She saw that her hatchling's name would be Roxas, and he would have the power of the light. So, without warning us, she set out to find her."
~*~
Delia paused to looked up at me again, she was probably wondering if I was taking all of this information in, or if I just stopped listening. I nodded once, a sign for her to continue. "Go on," I encouraged, I forced a smile.
"Delatrix then went out to look for your mother, she was successful. But, the Darkness reached her only moments later. They ran with all their speed, and she led her here. But they only made it to the entrance, you see." Delia paused, and looked over at Fawn.
"So, they dropped the egg into the water, and Delatrix told us to protect the egg at all costs,"
"What happened after that?" I whispered, I could vision the scene happening in my mind, but one piece was missing.
"We never saw them again after that," Delia whispered in reply, she looked down. I did the same, so... My mother really was gone, forever. Fawn glanced out of the cave entrance,
"You must get going Nia, I don't think the shield by the entrance can hold any longer." she said, tugging my arm, she pulled me out of the entrance, and led me to Namine', "It's time Namine'," Fawn whispered, stroking her head. She pushed a large silver egg, about eleven inches in length, and left it at my feet.
"Take good care of Roxas," Namine' whispered.
Roxas.
That was the dragon's name. "I promise I'll protect it," I whispered, petting the dragon's head. I could've sworn I saw her smile. The scale on my necklace levitated in front of my eyes, it glowed a bright blue now.
"Bye Nia!" Fawn waved, she smiled. I glanced at Delia, the corner of her mouth twitched into a small smile. It was the first time I ever saw Delia smile since I had gotten there. The images were beginning to disappear, as if I was deteriorating.
"Take good care of him," Namine' spoke, in a flash of white light, I was gone. End of chapter five... ~*~
Chapter 6, I Have To What?!
I clutched the silver egg, cradling it in my arms as I sprinted through the pitch black forests. I wasn't sure if I was going the right way, but I did remember the trail to my house. As my home came into view, I burst through the back door, panting. I looked over at my dad's bulging eyes. Poor dad, I must've been close to giving him a heart attack. I swallowed,
"You're back," he smiled, hugging my tightly.
"Dad," I choked out, "You. Are. Blocking. My lungs," I gasped for breath,
"Sorry," He murmured, scratching his head, "Natalie will be glad to hear that you're feeling well," he said, tossing me my cellphone,
"Natalie!" I gasped, "Wait-- how low was I gone?" I asked, dialing Natalie's number, I held the phone up to me ear.
"About two days," he replied calmly,
"Two days!?" I exploded, my voice quickly cut off as I heard Natalie's squeal of excitement,
"Nia!" She rejoiced, I could even hear her feet as she jumped up and down, "How are you feeling?" she asked, raising her voice as her dog began barking loudly. "POKIE BE QUIET!" she yelled, the dog went silent.
"I'm fine Natalie, it was only a sore throat and a cough..." I was cut off,
"Ooh, I hate sore throats." she said, there was then yelling in the back round, "Nia, me has gotta go-- see ya on Monday!"
Wait... Monday?
"Dad, what day is it?" I asked, trying to read what the calendar across the room read,
"Sunday, why you ask?" he replied. My hand flew to my forehead,
"What am I going to do with the egg?!" I sat down,
"Well, you're probably going to have to put it in your backpack..." He trailed off,
"You want me to what?!" My eyes widened, "Dad, what if it hatches?!" he didn't respond.
"The egg must constantly be in your presence, you must take it to school with you, or it will die."
~*~
I lay in my bed, wide awake. I couldn't sleep all night, I kept getting flashes, going by too quickly to understand. The alarms clock went off, I had forgotten I had turned the volume on it to 19, just in case I didn't wake up in time. I rolled out of bed, landing on my face on the floor. I groaned quickly, and unplugged the alarm clock. I slipped into my school uniform, in a daze. I picked up my backpack instead of my messenger bag, and gently set the egg down inside of it, zipping it up all of the way. Oddly enough, the egg seemed to glow now, as if there was a small flame inside of it. Maybe the hatchling's powers were starting to make themselves known. I considered that. I checked to make sure I had all of my homework and my books in one pile on my bed, "This is going to be a problem," I said to myself scratching my head. I didn't get the purpose of having six books for two of my classes, way too much to carry around. I heard a small muffled voice,
"Roxas!" the muffled voice spoke, it sounded like the voice of a child, with an edge of a parrot sound to it. I shook my head, probably hearing things. But part of my mind wondered if the small sound came from the silver egg inside of my backpack... I shook me head, and sprinted out of my front door, and to my school.
The day passed slowly, probably because I couldn't wait to get back home before this oversized egg hatched in front of the whole 8th grade. This is probably why the day felt longer, I sighed,t trying to calm my nerves. Natalie walked up to me after Art, "Hey Nia, is something bugging you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, nothing bothering me..." My voice trailed away when I heard the same small voice,
"Roxas!" It was slightly louder this time, but still muffled. I coughed, trying to make it sound like it was me.
"What was that...?" Natalie asked, but I simply waved and darted back to my home. End of chapter 6...

Chapter 7, Sir Are You My Mama?
I darted back home, praying that I would make it in time for whatever was happening. I sprinted to my room, opened the book bag, and set it down on my bed. I inspected it closely, no cracks."How strange.." I whispered, my voice trailed away when I heard a small cracking noise. My head widened, and my head snapped to the side. The egg had one long crack going down the middle, two legs broke through the shell. I giggled, the rest of the shell was still on.
"Roxas want out!" the small hatchling wailed, he crashed into a wall, the whole shell breaking off. Only his head was covered, blocking his eyes. "Woah," his voice was high pitched. "Who turned out 'da lights?" he held his arms out, and bumped into my nightstand, knocking down my alarm clock. My father burst through the door,
"I heard something fall..." His voice trailed away when he saw a small silvery dragon, with gold talons, and round dark blue eyes staring at him.
"Sir, are you my mama?" the hatchling asked, my father hesitated. The draglet squealed, and hugged his leg, "Mama mama!"
"Er... Nia..?" My father asked, pointing to the dragon. He licked my father's leg, and gagged.
"Ew ew, no no, you no my mama." the dragon waddled up to me, who was standing frozen in the middle of the room. "Are you my mama?" he asked, his round blue eyes expectant. The scale of my necklace rose, and began levitating in front of my eyes. "Mama!" the dragon cried, he crawled into my arms,
"Roxas," I grinned, petting the hatchling. Roxas giggled a high-pitched giggle, he licked my face with a wet pink tongue.
~*~
I looked down at the hatchling, "You're so small," I cooed. If you haven't noticed by what I just said; I love animals. The silvery hatchling was about nine inches long, give or take and inch. He chirped,
"Roxas wait long while to hatch!" He said, he rested his head on my chest and began snoring, a small whistling sound.
"He's asleep already?" I whispered to my father, who was standing by the door to my room. He grinned and nodded,
"Hatchlings are like puppies, they get energetic, but they sleep for half of the day." I set him down gently on one of my pillows, me and my father conversed about what I needed to know about dragons. Roxas's eyed flung open, he stuck his nose inside of my father's coffee mug. With one slurp, the cup was empty.
"Did Roxas just drink my coffee?" My father asked,
"Is that bad?" I could hear the distress in my voice as I spoke, my eyes widened slightly.
"I'd have some sugar or something before bed, you'll see soon enough..." My father smiled slightly, he then left my room. I whipped around to find Roxas standing on my bed, holding up my old game of Monopoly. He pointed at the name with a gold talon,
"Mama play with Roxas?" he asked. Who could say no to such a face? I inhaled, and held out one finger,
"One game. Okie dokies?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
"Okie dokies!" He repeated, grinning. His teeth were small, sharp, and milky white. I laughed softly, and settled myself down upon my bed. I nodded once, and set up the game.
"Here we go," I muttered. End of chapter 7... ~*~
Chapter 8, I Win!
I yawned, it was 1:30 in the morning, and Roxas insisted, no-- demanded, that we play The Game of Life just one last time, "Can I please go to sleep now?" I yawned, resting my head on my pillow. He jumped on my chest,
"Mama no sleep! Mama stay up with Roxas!" he slipped behind my back, I wouldn't believe that a nine inch hatchling could lift me up-- but he did. He pushed at my back, and put me sitting up. I yawned,
"Fine," I said, my words being slurred together. I put our pieces back at the first box. "Your turn to roll," I picked up the dice, and held them out to him. He snapped them up in his mouth, "Roxas!" I raised my voice, "You aren't supposed to eat the dice," I tried to pry his mouth open. He spit them out, and landed on snake eyes. Instead of taking two steps, he moved all the way to the finishing line, he grinned.
"Roxas win, mama loses!" he declared, his dark blue eyes sparkled brightly.
"Very funny," My eyes were drooping now. "Can I please go to sleep now?" I asked,
"Fine fine, Mama go to sleep," Roxas yawned widely, stretching out his long wings. He curled up beside where my head was resting. I smiled lightly as he began to snore his whistling snore. I closed my eyes, and I dreamed of the oddest dream... I stood in the middle of a red and black room, there was a man with red eyes, pale white skin, and black hair sitting in a throne. In front of him stood Namine', I gasped.
"The egg has hatched," the man said in a deep voice, he pointed a long finger and tapped the space between the white dragon's eyes, "And you know where the egg is."
"I will never tell you," Namine' snarled, spikes appeared running down her back. The man smirked slightly,
"Well then," he sighed. "I guess I'm just going to have to kill you,"
~*~
The dream felt so real, so frightening. I cringed closer into the wall, watching in utter horror. "Or," the man's voice was higher as he looked up. Two guards came, dragging a woman behind them. She looked so familiar, but I couldn't place who she was. This frustrated me, and I squinted. She had curly blond hair, and bright emerald green eyes. I gasped, my mother. As Namine's eyes widened with fear, the man smirked. He faced my mother, and placed a pale hand on her forehead. My mother screamed, and the white dragon hissed. "Leave her alone!"
Then I woke up.
Roxas was sitting on my chest, his head tilted to the side. "Mama was havin' a nightmare," he said in his squeaky voice. He licked my nose and grinned, "Natalie," he pointed at my phone as it began to ring. I yawned, and flipped it open.
"Hey Natalie," I said. Her voice came out in a rush,
"I have some History essay due tomorrow, but I forgot my book at school. Can I go over o your house today?" she asked, Roxas hissed. "What was that..?" she asked. I could hear the confusion in her voice.
"Oh um.. just my television, I'm watching Animal Planet." I answered too quickly, but she didn't seem to notice that.
" 'Kay, I'll be there around 1:00. See ya then," she sounded agitated, I then flipped my phone shut. 1:00... It was 12:30 already. Crap. I hopped out of my bed, picking up the silver egg shells and stuffing them inside of my trash bin. I made my bed, now there was just one thing left... Where will Roxas hide? I paced around in my room, My doorbell rang, I gasped.
"Crap crap crap," I picked Roxas up. "Be quiet," I whispered to him. I stuck him under my covers, and answered the door. "Hey Natalie," I greeted with a friendly smile. End of chapter 8...

Chapter 9, How Could You?!
I opened the door for my friend, Natalie smiled, but she looked different. She looked so... irritated, agitated, annoyed, it didn't look Natalie. I brushed it off, and led her inside. "My history book is in my room, it'll only take a second.."
"No no no-- actually, I'm kind of in a hurry." she insisted, following me to my room. As I stepped inside, I noticed her close the door. I almost jumped slightly. I quickly rummaged through my messenger bag. I yanked out my history book, and tossed it at her.
"Here you go," I said, she nodded once.
"I haven't talked to you in a while... what's up?" she asked. I shrugged, hadn't I talked to her a few days ago? Things didn't feel right. I shook my head, clearing my mind of such thoughts. Roxas fidgeted under my covers, and hissed when Natalie sat down on my bed. I threw a pillow at the lump, with was obviously the small dragon.
"Roxas want out!" the hatchling said, his squeaky voice perfectly clear. I jumped, crap.
"Um...." My eyes slowly widened as Roxas poked his head out from under my pillow. He hissed at Natalie, and flew to me. He landed on my shoulder, "Roxas!" my voice rose. I looked over at Natalie, "Natalie! Um..." I was about to explain, but my voice trailed away as the corner of her mouth pull up into a smirk, her eyes turned blood red, and I gasped.
~*~
"How could you?!" I spat, backing up against the wall. My eyes wide, I held Roxas in my arms tightly.
"Foolish girl, Natalie is still on her summer vacation, don't you know?" the figure then changed, he changed into a boy about my age, with dirty blond hair, pale white skin, and glowing red eyes. He smirked at me as I cringed closer into the wall. It clicked together, the sudden party.. the men chasing after me, I gasped. He probably would've had me once everybody left the house, leaving me there alone with what I thought was Natalie.
"W-who are you?" I stuttered, eying his every movement.
"My name is Delaney, and I am the Prince of Darkness." He smirked, "Look it up on Google, the name means darkness if you haven't noticed already." he rolled his eyes. "Now, come with me before things turn ugly," he smiled warmly and tapped the hollow base of my throat with one black nail, he leaned forward. "I can poison you, so I wouldn't try to protest." Crap. Was that why his nails were painted black? Or was he just like that? Either way, he would probably poison me. I gulped, and shook my head. He frowned deeply, "Pity," he sighed, my right hand then tightened into a fist, I screeched as light surrounded him. He yelled as darkness slowly swallowed the light, leaving nothing left but blackness. Nothing, I felt my eyes droop. "You shouldn't use your powers like that," He sighed. "It obviously makes you weak," his words were now becoming softer and softer as I fell into the darkness. I then blacked out. End of chapter 9...

Chapter 10, Just When I Thought I'd Reach The Bottom.
I was standing in nothingness now, everything was black, it was like the darkness kept on going on and on, never stopping. I seemed to fall through it, almost in slow motion. "Well," My voice echoed through the blackness. When reality caught up to me, I felt the knife of betrayal stab me right in the gut. How could I have been to freaking stupid?! How could I have forgotten she wouldn't be here for a week of school?! The day she told me she was leaving for a cruise flashed through my mind, "Hey Nia, I'm leaving for a cruise. I won't be back 'til a week after school, mind telling me the home work I missed when I get back?" I remembered every word Natalie had told me perfectly,
"Sure Natalie," I nodded once. She stepped inside over her father's car, "Have a fun trip!" I called as they drove away. My eyes flashed open, I was still floating through nothingness. I sighed in annoyance, this was really getting irritating. I felt a sharp pain in the hollow base of my throat, I gasped and closed my eyes tightly. Just when I thought I'd reach the bottom, my eyes automatically flew open. I sat strait up, feeling dizziness as I did so. I moaned, I was in a cold, hard, empty cell. Roxas lying in my lap, He must've knocked him out too. I glanced at the entrance, and there he was, standing there. He wore a black tux, making his pale white skin seem even whiter. He smiled warmly,
"Look who just woke up." his smile turned into a smirk.
~*~
I scowled, my hand clenching into a tight fist. I realized my outfit had changed to a black cloak, and a blood red dress. Must be the national colors in freak-vil. I thought with a slight smile,
"Remember, I can read your thoughts." Delaney muttered. He pursed his lips into a strait line,
"So," I muttered, crossing my legs. "Why are you here? I mean, your supposed to be prince and all," I trailed away, I raised an eyebrow. He took in a deep breath,
"Prince gets to do all the fun stuff," Delaney grinned. I laughed without humor, I hadn't noticed yet that my voice sounded bleak and hopeless. "Yeah, it happens when we have held people captive," Delaney replied to my unspoken question. I shrugged,
"Just wondering," I looked down at Roxas, who began to stir at my side. I picked him up, his nose twitched slightly. His dark blue eyes snapped open, and he immediately began to growl a hight-pitched growl at Delaney.
"Watch it, draggy. I can hurt your mama," He smirked, shaking his finger at us. Shush, Roxas. I thought to myself, a small squeaky voice then replied, Stupid scum... schmuck... Bah! it replied, I jumped. I looked down at Roxas who was scowling at Delaney. The Dark Prince seemed to look quite peaceful, and slightly amused by Roxas's scowl. "You seem to be very entertaining, I may stick around for a while," he smirked and sat down on a black stool.
"Why are we here?" I demanded, drumming my fingers impatiently against the stone floor. Delaney shrugged,
"For your execution, what else?" He asked, rhetorical question of course. I couldn't help but shudder. "And your exact time will be... forty-eight hours and fifty-six minutes." Delaney said. End of chapter 10...
~*~ ~*~Part 2, Delaney Dugal~*~
Preface
I never did think I would end up killing another. Of course I was born and raised in darkness, but I never killed. Was this what darkness was? People have many words for it, nothingness, dark, evil, sin. I was all of those things, but I never pictured having things come to this. It was just barbaric, and I wasn't like that. I am not my father. But what if I didn't kill? My father would surely destroy me if I didn't follow his orders. I held up my hand; palm facing forward. I was giving in, I was excepting who I was. But maybe that's what I was, darkness. My name is, and will be, Delaney Dugal, Prince of Darkness. Nothing can change that. Nothing.
Chapter 11, What Have I Become?
No light. Just darkness. "No light," I exhaled, "Just darkness," I inhaled. There was no light, there was no hope. I sighed, as father would say, I would get to do all the 'fun' stuff. He told me to make it last. Part of me actually enjoyed it, but part of me also disagreed. Bah! Life is so confusing. King Scandar, my father of course, ruled the land of Temhota. I was his son, and therefore, the Prince. I swallowed, and gazed out of my window. Darkness ruled the land, the sun would never shine, and the people had no happiness. But rebellion was rising, hope was returning to the land, I wrinkled my nose in disgust. All there faith and happiness would be crushed after the girl was eliminated. The corner of my mouth pulled up into a smirk. My crimson red eyes glowed in the blackness of the room. It was poorly lit by small candles, which only gave off a gray glow. The room had a black carpet, with blood red walls. So medieval, I rolled my eyes and twisted my fingers through the gray drapes which hung over my window. Today I was to watch Rebecca, Nia's mother.
This should be fun.
One word for that woman, disrespectful. I slipped on my black and red robe, and walked down the dimly lit hallway. I stepped down a long staircase which led down to the pitch black dungeons. I stood in front of a dark cell, "Hello, Rebecca." I smirked.
"Hello Prince Of All Stupidness," She replied in a mocking tone. Childish, that's another thing to add to the list of things that she is. Being in the same cell for so long had almost driven her to the brink of insanity,
"You will never address your prince in that matter," I snapped back at her. My eyes turned red, and my mind clouded with black fury. My hand clenched into a tight fist,
"Look at what you have become, Delaney," the woman muttered. "You're just like your father."
~*~
I glared hard at the woman, she had tan skin, curly blond hair, and bright emerald green eyes. Nia inherited the hair, and the personality, no doubt... The rest she got from her father. The corner of my lip twisted up into a slight smirk, how would he react to the letter I left for him in Nia's handwriting? I frowned deeply, I was a sick, twisted person. I shook my head, and brushed the feeling off.
"Having another episode? Aw, did I make the Princey angry..?" Rebecca said in a mocking tone, she laughed. I rolled my eyes, and opened the door to her cell, and closed the door behind me as I stepped inside of the murky room.
"You're probably wondering what we've done to your daughter yet," I said casually, an evil grin crossing my face. I heard her hiss something under her breath,
"Watch your words, I might snap at you any second," She growled, her hands balling up into tight fists. She was always like this, always so angry whenever we'd threaten her... Rebecca was brave, I can tell anybody that, but she was also foolish. "Disrespectful little--" She was cut off by a soft, but also raspy voice which came from the pitch black cell beside her.
"Calm down, Rebecca, he's just messing with your head." two pale white hands curled around the bars which enclosed the elfish creature inside of it. Two large dark green eyes glowed dimly in the darkness, once it came into view, I knew who it was. The elf-like creature was always so quiet, that I would have to go in there and check if she was still breathing.
Delatrix, that was her name.
"Delatrix," I inhaled, "Oh how you probably miss your sisters, it's a shame we had to get rid of them..." I sneered, but I sighed casually. Delatrix's tiny hands tightened around the bars,
"You're lying!" she screeched. I rolled my eyes, "You're just like your father, you're evil, Delaney. Evil." she hissed, and slipped back into the darkness of her cell. I inhaled, she was right.
What have I become? End of chapter 11...

Chapter 12, You're Going To Regret What You Just Said!
I only stared into the blackness of Delatrix's dark cell, and sighed. I had angered her enough for one day. I had to watch Delia and Fawn now. "Good day," I muttered, and slammed the cage door behind me. Rebecca grumbled something under her breath, she cracked her knuckles. I darted up a long flight of stairs, almost tripping on the last one. I heard a musical laugh, "Someone needs to get their act together," A voice that sounded very irritated grumbled. Delia and Fawn, exact opposites. Fawn was always so carefree, gentle, and kind. Delia got irritated, and angered with one false move.
"Oh Delia, lighten up silly! You're always so angry. Maybe some good will come outta this," I heard the small voice chime, Delia rolled her eyes.
"Yes, staying in a murky old cell, this is very nice. Stop being so chipper!" The irritated voice snapped back at her sibling.
"You're, as the humans say, 'cramping' my mood, Delia." Fawn hissed, her voice losing its happiness only by the slightest.
"Hey back off. You have no idea how annoying you can get--" I cut Delia off by clearing my throat. "Oh, look who's come to join us in our misery." I saw the elfish creature roll her eyes at me. "Come for some tea and crumpets, darling?" she asked with false enthusiasm.
"Never, talk to your prince like that," I hissed, opening the cell door and closing it behind me.
"G'day!" Fawn greeted, she was sitting Indian style at my feet, grinning up at me. It was odd how she could always stay so happy... It was just unnatural, very, unnatural. I looked down at the elf-like creature, and nodded once.
"I'm here to make sure you two don't escape," I said, crossing my arms across my chest. Delia rolled her eyes at me,
"Like we're going to be getting out of here anytime soon..." She grumbled, her hands tightening into small fists. Fawn shot her sister a look I could not describe, she then looked back up at me. She folded her hands in her lap,
"Oh, we don't plan on getting out of here anytime soon." she said in her musical voice. The chipper elf smiled lightly. It made me wonder; what would happen if I made her angry..?
~*~
The corner of my mouth pulled up into a smirk, I sighed casually. "Think about how Namine' feels right about now," I exhaled. "She put all of her trust in you, and what does she get? Being captured," Delia's hand tightened into a fist, "It's so sad, you failed." I glanced down at Fawn, who was frowning deeply.
"Shut up," she muttered, her eyes blazed.
"I can just imagine how your dear old sister... What was her name again? Oh... Delatrix." I tapped my chin with my index finger and smirked, "Too bad we had to get rid of her a few years ago. She could've been so useful to the Darkness, it's too bad she refused. Oh wait, she did go to the dark.." I sighed, a long, drawn out sight. Delia's eyes blazed with black fury, she stood up. "Oh, I think it's nap time for the elf," I said with false enthusiasm. Three things then happened at once; high winds howled through the cell, Fawn hissed, and Delia yelled,
"Ah, how disappointed Namine' will be," I disregarded the fact that the mostly chipper elf-like creature now looked utterly enraged.
"You're going to regret what you just said!" Fawn stood up,
"FAWN DON'T!" Delia screeched, but it was too late. The now furious elf placed a hand in between my eyes,
"Cокр иметь потерянный твой зрение!" she screamed, my eyesight went completely black.
I could see nothing. I fell to the floor, vibrating as if I had been shocked with a taser.
"I told you not to do it," I recognized the irritated voice. Delia, no doubt, "You shouldn't have taken his eyesight like that. Give it back before he kills us!" she hissed,
"The disrespectful little brat deserved it," Fawn muttered. I felt a soft hand press against my forehead, and my eyes fluttered open.
"Why you little-" I roared, but I was cut off,
"Yell and I'll take your eyesight again," she hissed, standing up. I scrambled to my feet, she looked really intimidating. I stood up, and ran out of the murky old cell, panting. End of chapter 12...

Chapter 13, The World Has Turned Its Back On You,
I rushed into my room, and glanced at myself in the mirror. There was one bruise on my forehead, "Dang that elf," I muttered. The creatures of Apakoh used the Russian language for their source of magic. The language, after the magic was done, would leave them weak soon after the spell was performed. I growled something under my breath, clenching my hand into a tight fist. The elves served the Light, and I, of course, served the Dark. Some would say that one wouldn't be the same without the other. Want to know what I say to that?
Bah!
Lies, all of this is such freaking crap-- I exhaled, rubbing my temples. Anger. I inherited that from my Father's side. But the other side... The side that yearned to be good,
Mother.
She disappeared after I was born, I hated my Father after that. He would always say that some good would come of this. Ha, good? He thinks I'm stupid, doesn't he? Oh, once I'm done here, I'll... I winced, my forehead burned and my eyesight was still blurry. Dang, that elf sure can pack a punch. Maybe I shouldn't try to angry her anymore. I threw myself on top of my bed, closing my eyes tightly and pulling the black blanket over my face. I fell into a deep sleep, I wandered through the endless halls of the dark castle, I was six at the time. I kicked the leg of a chair. Strange things had been happening to me, and my mother barely visited me now. I heard footsteps, so I turned around. My mother stood at the end of the halls, wearing a white cloak, and a white dress. She wore her silvery blond hair in two braids, and her skin looked ghostly pale. I threw my arms around her leg. "Why didn't you come?" I muttered, she rested a hand, which was lighter than a moth's wing, on my shoulder.
"I have to go, Delaney, goodbye." she whispered.
~*~
"W-what?" I stuttered, pulling away to look up at my mother's ghostly pale face. "Don't go! Please!" I wailed, tugging on my mother's cloak, "Don't leave me," I whimpered, hugging her leg even tighter. My mother knelt down in front of me, so we were eye to eye. She rested a hand on my shoulder, and sighed, a long drawn out sigh.
"Delaney Dugal," she then placed her other hand on my shoulder. "Please, you must understand this; I have to go." She stretched out every word in the last sentence, making them more effective.
"Why?" I whispered, looking up at her face. She didn't reply the first time I asked. My eyes hardened only the slightest, "Why do you have to go?"
"Darkness is rising," she muttered. It made me wonder; was she talking to me, or herself?
"What's that?" I asked, in this time, my father hid the fact from me that I was Prince of Darkness. My mother shook her head in reply, she pulled her hood back over her head and sighed. I pulled on her cloak, I was begging now. "Please don't go," tears streamed down my cheeks.
"I'm sorry Delaney," my mother pulled me into a tight hug. "Goodbye," I felt her arms disappear around me, I looked up, and she was gone.
My eyes snapped open, and I sat up. The sky was filled with tiny sparks of light, but no luminous moon. I rubbed the back of my head and groaned, I had fallen out of the bed, "Dang," I muttered, pulling myself back onto my feet. I fixed my hair, rearranging it so that the bruise which was on my forehead disappeared. I had to watch Nia now. End of chapter 13...

Chapter 14, I'm Prince Of Darkness, So Sue Me.
I stood in front of the black-framed mirror which leaned against the walls of my dark room. I sighed, what I saw was; one side was split in half, that side was white, and the other was black. On the white side, stood a woman with silvery blond hair, and pale white skin. The woman from my dream, my Mother. On the other side, stood my Father. I winced that if someone had stabbed me right in the gut. There was one section in the middle, and in that section, emptiness and nothingness went on forever.
I stood in that section.
My face was confused, and I glanced from the white side, to the black side. It was as if I didn't know which was to go; and I didn't. The image disappeared, and I sighed. I made sure the purple bruise which stood out from everything else on my pale skin was covered by my black hair. It was very uncomfortable being in a girl's body all that time I had to spend with Nia. I shuddered, and brushed the thought away. Why the heck was I even thinking about that now?! I shrugged my shoulders, and walked out of my room and into the dimly lit hallway. The face of my mother haunted my mind for the long walk to Nia's cell. The face in my mind looked pained, as if regretting something. Or, as if she was feeling somebody's pain. I felt bad for the face; unaware of the reason why that image had appeared in my mind in the first place. I stopped by the Throne room, eavesdropping on my father's conversation. The voices were only faint whispers, but I could still hear every word with perfect clarity.
"What if the boy does not carry on your bidding?" I heard one man ask,
"Then I shall carry on the bidding myself," My father hissed. Cruelty and hate lined every word, and I closed my eyes for a few moments. What did he mean by, 'Carry on the bidding?' I brushed it off and continued my way down the long staircase. I stopped at the last cell, and opened the door with a creak. Immediately, I heard a low growl coming from the corner of the jail.
"Oh look who decided to visit," The voice was lower, but it still sounded like a young boy's voice. I identified the sound; Roxas of course. He was now three feet in height, his silver scales gleamed even in darkness. I blinked as if I had been staring at a bright sun, but I had only been staring at the light which flickered faintly off of the young dragon's scales. Nia was laying on the straw bed, her eyes peacefully closed. Probably sleeping, I thought to myself as I took my eyes away from her, "Why don't you just let me eat you and call it a day?" Roxas asked sarcastically. Rhetorical question, I didn't bother answering. I glared for five seconds at Roxas,
"I am so scared," I grumbled sarcastically.
~*~
"Oh no you just didn't," Roxas growled. His voice still sounded like the one of a two-year-olds, so he wasn't as threatening as he intended on being. I noticed that by the time I set foot inside of the murky old cell. Nia's eyes fluttered open, and she immediately glared at me the second she saw that I was there. I read her thoughts within an instant; How pleasant to wake up with the Prince of Darkness staring at you as if you were a science project.. her thoughts had a sarcastic edge to them, perhaps she meant for me to hear her thoughts. She's probably trying to drive me off of the brink of insanity. Nia's winning, no doubt. Try having to hear the most annoying sound in your head. Well, she's going to get a mouthful once she finishes me off...
"What the heck are you doing?" Nia spoke, raising an eyebrow. I was pulled away from my thoughts,
"Excuse me?" I snapped, my eyes glowing crimson.
"You're staring off into space. It's creepy," She replied simply, shrugging. I glanced at the ceiling, it would be time to go soon. I stood up, and left the girl and her dragon in her cell without another word. I again passed by the throne room,
"Hope and happiness is starting to return to the land," I heard my father hiss in utter disgust.
"That will all soon be gone once the girl is gone forever, King Scandar. there is no need to be worrying." I heard one of his subjects reply, I wrinkled my nose in disgust. When I was younger, I'd call him Daddy, or just Dad. Now I just call him Father, and nothing else. I clenched my hand into a fist and walked back to my room, slamming the door behind me. I didn't care if one of the servants came and asked what was wrong; all i wanted to do was scream.
Why do decisions have to be so dang hard?! I muttered something under my breath. I wanted to scream even louder now, scream into a pillow for all I care. I just wanted to get out, so be free of this darkness.
But then where would I go after that?
I picked up my pillow, and held it up to my face and screamed. It was muffled, so others would not be able to hear even a yelp of it. Everyone said my name like is was a poison, disease, Delaney Dugal.
I'm Prince of Darkness, so sue me. End of chapter 14...

Chapter 15, Namine' The Wise,
I awoke the next day, the same red pillow still covering my face. I grumbled something under my breath and threw it at the wall, it hit the floor with a light thunk. I rolled out of my bed, resulting in landing right on the hard floor. I groaned, and rubbed my forehead. I really had to watch out for that elf now, who knows that else she has up her sleeve?
Oh wait. She has none.
I stood up, and glanced out of the window, instead of the sky being black as pitch: it was now lighter... More hope, I thought to myself as I pulled down my sleeves and faced the large wooden door. One more day, just one more day, and the girl would be gone. All hope would be gone, everything would go back the way it was before. The way it was before... a soft voice said, but it sounded like a faint whisper in the breeze. I whipped around,
"Who's there?" I rose my voice. The way it was before... When darkness and light lived in harmony... the mist-like voice spoke,
"What do you mean?" I asked, glancing here and there; but there was nothing to be found. Long ago... the whisper-like voice continued, Light was light, and dark was dark. They lived in coexistence, but they did not get along well. I raised my eyebrows, Listen well boy, or you will be making a foolish mistake in not taking other's advice. I sighed, When Scandar took the throne of Temhota, he wanted endless power. He wanted to invade the earth with darkness.
"Who are you?" I stuttered, I am Namine' the Wise. the mist-like voice replied.
~*~ The image changed after that, into which I could not make into words. I was in a different place, and probably even in a different time. I stood in the middle of a beautiful field, around me dark clouds had formed in the sky. I heard the faint sounds of clashing metal. I looked around, little had I noticed the swarm of people and dragons fighting above me.
"Give us the egg, you foolish elves!" someone roared, I nearly jumped.
"Never, Scandar!" a small voice which whom I immediately recognized yelled back,
Fawn.
The two small elves scurried into the meadow,
"Fawn, close the entrance before it breaks through," Delia ordered, pointing upward. I looked around, there was a crystal tunnel leading upward.
"Delia but.. Delatrix!" Fawn glanced upward, her sister hadn't returned.
"She told us to seal the entrance, so seal it already!" Delia looked pained, but her voice was full of authority. The blue-eyed elf broke into sobs, she held her head in her hands. She took one trembling hand away from her face, and turned it palm facing up towards the entrance of the tunnel.
"близкий," Fawn whispered, a glass covering then sealed the entrance. I knew what the words mean, 'close.' I felt pain for the small elf, but I remained silent. Fawn sank to her knees, and continued to sob,
"Don't sob dear child." I jumped backwards, the glossy white egg was cracked open, revealing a white hatchling, with large ice blue eyes. Delia looked up, and gasped,
"My name is Namine' the Wise, and Delatrix told you to watch over me." the hatchling smiled, revealing her needle-sharp teeth.
The image faded, and I was back in my room.
"What.. was that?" I murmured to myself, but I wasn't expecting another reply. Help restore the light, Delaney.. the whisper-like voice then faded until it could be heard no more. End of chapter 15... ~*~
Chapter 16, The Prisoners Have Escaped!
I looked around, bewildered and confused. One day until the girl's elimination.
As soon as the thought passed through my mind, I felt like I had been stabbed with the knife of guilt. I even flinched slightly, me, kill?! Well, not exactly, just making the person's soul get lost in darkness for all of, well, forever.
Nothing wrong with that, right? I mean, they're two totally different things, right?
Of course they aren't! How could I be cursed with such a life?!
I'm losing it.
Losing it...
I'm gone 'loco' as some people would say. I'm a confused and troubled soul who has yet to pick which side he'll be on. There must be another person going through the same situation... Not. I sighed, there was someone I needed to see. I rushed down a flight of stairs, and into the lower part of the dungeons. And the darkest, at that. I stepped in front of what seemed to be an empty old cell. I tapped my foot, and waited for something to happened.
Nope. Zipo. Nothing.
I rolled my eyes, and continued waiting. There was a slight chain rattling noise coming from deeper inside of the cell,
"I know you're there, Desarae."
~*~
"Come out, Desarae," I called into the cell. There was no other sound, I sighed in impatience. "Get. Out. Now." I threatened, my hand balling up into a tight fist as I spoke. There was another sound of rattling chains, a tiny elf emerged from the darkness. Her skin was snow white, and her hair was jet black. Her eyes... They bothered me. They were abnormally large, too large for her face, and they were the color of gray... She glared at me, looking, but not seeing. People called her The Powerless One, or, the Lost Sister. Her name was Desarae, separated from her siblings at birth. The fourth sister, and the forgotten one. She spoke in riddles which I could not comprehend with. I cleared my throat,
"I need your advice," I leaned in closer to the small elf who had her head tilted to the side. I spoke quietly; for there was a black raven perched upon the ceiling board, one of Father's 'Security Cameras' he would call them. Desarae nodded once, waiting for what i needed to ask her.
"My Father is going to make me eliminate somebody by Moon High tomorrow," I said quietly, Desarae chuckled knowingly.
"Going to kill against your own will?" She asked, gray eyes closed. I'd rather she had those large eyes closed. I nodded.
"Yes," I replied, occasionally glancing at the raven which was watching us intently.
"Never more. Never more." she spoke, the corner of her mouth pulled up into a smirk. I stood up, my hand clenching into a fist.
"Useless little elf," I muttered to myself, the raven crowed and flapped its wings threateningly. I hissed at the bird, it immediately slipped into the shadows. I rolled my eyes, and walked back up the long flight of stairs which I took to descend down into the dungeon. Desarae was an odd elf, she was erased from her sister's memories. Not even Delatrix knows of her name. The 'Knowing' elf, as I called her. Why don't they know of the blind elf? I wondered while stepping into my room, the moon was rising. But not even that gave the realm of darkness any light. The elimination was soon, very soon. An odd raven, which I knew immediately by the way it flew, was the 'Security Camera' for Delia and Fawn's cell. The raven was missing its eye, along with a foot. It sometimes flew in circles,
Guess that's what happens when you get your eye poked out my a couple of angry prisoners. But the raven was crowing at the top of its tiny lungs,
"THE PRISONERS HAVE ESCAPED!" End of chapter 16...
~*~
Chapter 17, Cat and Mouse.
My eyes widened as I threw the door to my room wide open, the bird began to fly is circles. I tapped my foot impatiently on the ground, "FECHEN!' I yelled, the raven then landed on my shoulder. He wobbled on his one leg,
"Master, prisoners have escaped. Prisoners have escaped, prisoners have escaped--"
"Fechen you foolish bird!" I roared, throwing my hands in the air.
"Fehen is sorry master," the bird bowed. He then flew away-- but crashed into a wall. I rolled my eyes, great, another goose chase. I ran down the dark halls, I felt an ice cold hand grab my arm. I spun around, and when I did, I was in a totally different area. Everything was illuminating and white, it was too bright. I squinted my eyes to keep from damaging them in the never ending brightness. My eyes finally adjusted, so I opened them.
"Where am I?" I wondered aloud, taking a step forward. The ground seemed to disappear out from under my feet, I gasped, as I was soon falling through the never ending light.
"You're in the realm of light, my dear son," and echoing voice spoke. It sounded friendly, and yet sad. I could even tell how confused my face looked.
"Son?" I echoed, crossing my arms as I fell.
"You do not know who I am?" The voice asked, a hint of sadness in it. I shook my head, though I knew exactly who is was. "Life will get harder as the days grow in length. But please, my son, I know you'll do what's right some day." her voice faded into a whisper. Along with her chiming voice, the light around me faded as well. I landed flat on my back, right in the hallway where I was once standing. I stood up, and my head shot to the side. I heard the words, 'split up'. I smirked, and followed in the direction of the light footsteps. I walked down the North Corridor, there was no way out now. Well, unless Fawn had another one of her magic spell up her sleeve that would knock me out again. I shuddered, but shook my head. Why was I afraid of a tiny little elf?
As soon as the footsteps came to an abrupt stop, I was facing her. Nia Cicida. She looked like a deer caught in the headlights of an upcoming car. Her eyes widened, time to play the game,
Cat and Mouse.
~*~
"No," She whispered as I began to circle her. I then frowned as the words of my mother rang through my head, but I brushed them off.
What a foolish choice.
"Let's duel," I said, extending my hand.
"Let's." Nia muttered, extending her hand as well. The rest happened far too quickly, I yelled as a cloud of black shot out from my hand-- and light out of hers. The two clashed, dove and raven. After that, we seemed to appear in a lifeless realm of black and white. I stood on the black, and she stood on the white. We circled each other, the black from my side blurred into hers, and the white from her side blurred into mine. Yin and Yang. We finally stopped, and there was complete and utter silence around us. There was nothingness, black and white stretching on for miles and miles. Two realms: Light and Darkness. Two enemies from the beginning, always at battle from the beginning. I remembered from the day I pretended to be Natalie Turrel, the day her bible teacher, Mr. Saint-Germain, a kind man, spoke about spiritual battles. "The devil always has his demons coming after you, but they cannot harm you as long as you put your faith in Jesus Christ."
Psalm 91:1-8
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty,
2 I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely He will save you from the fowler's snare,
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with His feathers,
and under His wings you will take refuge;
His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror by night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
and ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
Was there even a choice? My name is, and will always be, Delaney Dugal, Prince of Darkness. Nothing can change that. Nothing. End of chapter 17...

Preface Psalm 35
1 Contend, O Lord, with those who contend on me;
fight against those who fight against me.
2 Take up shield and buckler;
arise and come to my aid.
3 Brandish spear and javelin
against those who pursue me.
Say to my soul,
"I am your salvation."
4 May those who seek my life
be disgraced and put to shame.
may those who plot my ruin
be turned back in dismay.
Oh dear Lord in heaven.
I'm dead aren't I?
"Just a soul lost in darkness itself. A trapped soul." An echoing voice spoke through my clouded mind,
"Who are you?"
Chapter 18, You Wouldn't Dare.
I stood in front of Delaney, palm facing forward. He was frowning as if he were about to do something that he didn't want to do,
"What are you waiting for, Delaney?" I called out to him. "Why do you hesitate?" We began to circle each other. To kill, or be killed in this never ending battle? I gasped, Delaney held out his hand, palm facing forward. But his hand seemed to tremble slightly, time was slowly ticking away. I'm not strong enough. No.
Everything seemed to happen in slow motion after that. The way horror movies always end. One person gets eliminated, and that one scene seems to be the most anticipating. Ha, try being the person that's supposed to be eliminated out of the script.
He lifted his hand so it was palm facing forward, right at me. I gasped and took a step back, I heard someone cry out my name, but the voice was so far off.
"Soon you will be forgotten. " Delaney said, taking another step closer to me. "Soon people will forget the meaning of your name, and they will say; 'Isn't something missing?'" He took one more step forward. A sob ripped through my chest, I'd never get to see my friends ever again. "Now, darling, I'll have to kill you." He sneered at the word, 'darling', he took one more step, and tilted his head to the side.
"You wouldn't dare." I whispered in disbelief, he only chuckled a dark chuckle. He seemed like a lifeless drone, an empty shell. His eyes had an empty glow to them.
"Oh, I wouldn't?" He laughed without humor. "The definition of my name means darkness. What do you expect? Tea time and small talk?" he was smiling at me now. "There's no hope for you now." he laughed. "Might as well give up and let this pass by quickly," Delaney cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow, "What a shame. You made it so far." He sighed, "You failed, Nia, face the truth. Or, perhaps you can't." He could read the distress on my face, "Am I not correct?" Delaney asked rhetorically.
He was right, I failed, and it would all be over for me soon.
But no, another voice in my mind whispered. It was a faint and delicate voice, and it was right. I made it far enough, but I could've done better.
I should've tried harder.
The voice I had heard earlier was getting louder now, it was a shriek mixed with tears. "NIA NO!"
Another sob ripped through my chest. The black-haired boy chuckled, his voice edged with cruelty and no sign of remorse. I sank to my knees,
"Go ahead, finish me off. But light will always find a way," I whispered, I felt little to no pain when he made a strike at me. Psalm 35

~*~
The voice didn't reply when I asked its identity. I then felt very awkward. I looked around, I was standing in a white lifeless realm. There was a large screen in front of me, there was nothing showing in it. I shuddered, and finally decided to say something, "You still there?" I called. No reply again.
There was nothing to comfort me, not a single soul was to be seen. There was no wind to gently caress my cheeks. There was no sound of the rushing water of a river. There was nothing to be seen. Nothing to be found. Even if there was a single mouse I'd be content. Something, anything. I just wanted to see something move, a single change in this never ending realm. I felt like I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. I then heard cries and sobs. I listened harder, and realized that the voices were coming from the friends I had left behind. They would all be eliminated, all because I wasn't strong enough. A feeling of dread overcame me, and I sank to my knees. Natalie would never find out what really happened to me, and Roxas...
Roxas.
I held my head in my hands, it was all over.
The lifeless screen of black then began to affect the never ending realm of light. It was like an infectious disease. It crept over all visible light, leaving me in total darkness. I took a step forward, but the ground beneath my feet suddenly disappeared.
I then began to fall, but not even then was there any wind. I was still standing, but it felt as if I were drifting. I looked down at my hands, they were starting to become transparent, my immediate reaction was to start screaming. But nothing happened, I seemed to expect for this to happen. I was beginning to fade away, just as Delaney had said.
I then started to hear more voices,
"MAMA!" The toddler-sounding voice cried,
"Roxas, please--" Fawn said, trying to calm the sobbing hatchling.
"She's dead! He killed her!" the small voice cried even louder. It pierced right through me, and a tear slid down my cheek.
But then, I suddenly felt angry. He killed me. He tore me away from my family, everyone I loved and cared for. My hand clenched into a tight fist, and I screamed in anger.
"Now that the the girl is finished, I'll finish you off as well." a deep voice boomed, another wave of anger washed over me. Scandar wouldn't dare touch them. I wouldn't let him.
Suddenly, a ball of light shot out of my heart, everything was so bright that I couldn't see past it. Before I knew it, I was standing face-to-face with Scandar, I was holding a fist right at his face.
"BACK OFF!" I screamed at him, I was set off. He had crossed the border line between insanity, and sanity.
Then, a large form of light shot out of my hand. It took the shape of a dove, Scandar yelled. the light then began to circle around him, it turned the stone floor to smooth marble, and the stone walls into beautiful tile patterns. Scandar then fell to the floor, and disappeared in a cloud of black locusts.
Fawn and Delia practically tackled me, there were squealing with utter joy. Roxas jumped onto my chest and licked my face happily, "Mama!" he chirped. Delia then whispered something in Roxas's ear, and he nodded. I stood up, and he tugged on my sleeve, he pulled me over to the woman I had seen in my dream. I gasped, and threw my arms around her neck. She seemed slightly startled, but she then hugged me back tightly. I glanced over my shoulder and noticed Delia and Fawn hugging two other elves. One had jet black hair, and the other flaming red hair.
Roxas squeezed in between me and my mother, "Don't I get a hug too?" he asked innocently, making a sad face. I giggled and hugged him.
But in the mist of all the happiness, I noticed an angry looking Delaney standing in the corner of the room. His red eyes glowed, his mouth moved as if he were saying something-- and he disappeared. End of chapter 18...

Chapter 19, Who's That Boy?
I looked away from where Delaney was once standing, and sighed.
"It's time for you to go, Nia," Delia and Fawn said. I frowned,
"You're... not coming?" I asked, trying to hide the disappointment in my voice, I looked down at my feet.
"You must go, Nia," The large white dragon said, I had realized Namine' hadn't said a word throughout the whole time period. I listened to what she said, and nodded sadly.
"Don't worry, we'll see each other again soon," Fawn smiled adorable little smile. I couldn't help but smile back weakly, but it then slowly faded. I sighed,
"Strike your sword into the ground, child." Namine' instructed, pushing my white sword towards me by nudging it with her nose. I knelt down, and picked it up. After that, I stood, and held out my sword. I swallowed, and held the sword up high. My mother rested a hand on my shoulder, and smiled warmly.
"I'm proud of you, Nia," She said, and after that, I drove the sword through the marble flooring. I actually thought the floor would crack, but it didn't, it cut through the floor like if it was a knife in butter. A forcefield of light surrounded me, Roxas, and my mother. The tiny hatchling waved a silver talon at his birthmother, and we disappeared.
I then woke up in my bed, Roxas snoring quietly at my side. I rubbed my forehead with my hand, and winced when my palm made contact with the skin of my head. I held my right hand in front of my face and noticed that there was a dove mark on it. I closed my hand, then relaxed it. I turned it this way and that, how did that get there? I wondered to myself as I gently lifted Roxas and set him on top of my white pillow. I hopped out of my bed, and swayed slightly when I stood up. I clutched the edge of my nightstand to keep balance. Suddenly, I was caught by surprise when my alarm clock suddenly started to go off, I gasped and practically smacked the 'off' button, causing it to turn off. I sighed in relief,
time for school.
I really need to think of an excuse for this. Let's see... Flue? Yeah, flue, that's good. Or, perhaps a stomach virus? One of my classmates did end up catching a stomach virus.
I slipped into my clothes, leaving Roxas sleeping on my bed. I giggled quietly, and kissed his forehead. I zipped out of the front door, and practically sprinted to the front doors of my school.
"NIA!" I heard the familiar voice of my friend squeal, I was suddenly knocked a few paces back by getting hit by Natalie. "Nia! Where the heck were you?! You were practically gone for a whole week! I called you like, a gazillion times!" Wow, I wonder if there was such thing as that number.
But then I hugged her back tightly, we probably hugged for a whole minute. I laughed, and finally pulled away,
"So, what I miss?" I finally asked. There was just so many things I wanted to tell her that I couldn't.
"Not much, but I hear there's some new transfer student coming into the school today. Some people say his name is Max," Natalie replied in her quick voice. I twisted the lock on my locker, and finally got it open. I pulled out the books I needed for my first class, Science, which I had with Natalie.
"What homeroom is he in?" I asked,
"Ours." Natalie replied shortly as we walked into the classroom.
~*~
"Nia Cicida! For the number of days you've missed, I thought you had left the school altogether!" My Science teacher, Mrs. Fernandez called from her desk. She clapped her hands. Mrs. Fernandez was slightly plump, or as she would say, 'I guess I gained a few pounds over the summer' I almost giggled at the memory of my first day in 8th Grade. My teacher had slightly graying hair, glasses which hung on a chain around her neck, hazel eyes, and a Spanish accent. The teacher stood up from her desk and hugged me. I then hugged her back, once all of the students spotted me, the Class Clown of the class, a short boy named Alec, called,
"OH MY GOSH!" in the most girl-like voice he could possibly say those words in. Everyone laughed, and I was hugged by 27 arms. I had 29 students in my class (including me and Natalie) all of which I befriended at the beginning of the year. Our little 'reunion' was then shattered when the middle-school principle walked in.
"Holy crap it's the principal!" everyone whispered as we scrambled to our seats.
"Why hello there Mrs. Fernandez," the principal smiled warmly at all of us. We put on our best 'angle faces' with our hands folded neatly on the table. "My my my, what a lovely class you have here." she then smiled again. Her full name was Dorthy Belle. Her hair was cut short, and curled at the end. Her eyes were bright blue, and she had fair skin. She was also tall,
"Why hello, Principal Belle, may I held you with anything?" My teacher asked, she had now taking her place at her desk which was at the front of the classroom.
"No thank you, I was just checking in to see if everything was in order," The principal replied. She spotted a boy wearing a hat, she smiled and pulled it off, leaving it in front of his hands. "Remember students, no wearing hats in the classroom," she smiled again and left.
"The stalker has left the room," Alec whispered to the people at my table, we all stifled our laughs.
Moments later, a feeling of dread overcame me, and I frowned.
"You okay Nia?" Natalie whispered to me,
"Why so serious?" Alec said in a deep voice, I then smiled, and giggled. Mrs. Fernandez didn't seem to notice, though. There was then two loud knocks on the door,
"Oh! That must be the new students!" I noticed she said 'students' in the plural way.
"I thought you said there was only one new student..?" I leaned towards Natalie, she shrugged her shoulders. Mrs. Fernandez opened the door,
"Why hello there." she greeted, opening the door for them. "Now, will you please stand in front of the class and introduce yourselves for us? We would all just love to know what your named are."
I didn't get a close look at the two boys until they stood in front of the white board. The first one was about two inches taller than I was, he had brown hair which was spiked out in the front, and dark brown eyes. He had that sort of 'bad boy' vibe that would make most girls swoon.
The boy next to him was shorter, he had emerald green eyes, and black curly hair which reached o his ears. He was rather skinny, and his skin was pale. He seemed to be afraid of the taller boy, by the way he stood next to him, I could tell.
"Please state your names," Mrs. Fernandez said from her desk,
"My name is Maximilian Ment." The taller boy finally spoke, his gaze shifted to the shorter boy standing next to him. The boy winced as if he were being stabbed by a knife,
"I-I'm Korbin." he said quietly, not looking up to meet the taller boy's icy look.
"Speak up please!" Mrs. Fernandez called, Alec was leaning forward out of his seat so he could hear what the shorter boy was saying.
"Crap!--" Alec gripped the side of the table to his chair wouldn't flip over. There was an eruption of giggles.
"M-my name is Korbin," he stammered, though his voice was louder this time.
"Korbin? Do you know the name means 'little raven'?" Mrs. Fernandez asked him from her seat. The boy's head shot up, and he nodded. "Well then," she smiled warmly, "Welcome to my classroom." End of chapter 19...

Chapter 20, Endings Come Too Soon
"Now then, will you please take your seats over there in that empty table?" Asked Mrs. Fernandez while handing out two books to each of the new students. She then passed a blue paper out to the whole class,
"Please don't read it until I say." she instructed.
Korbin was sitting on chair away from Max, which I found quite odd because they were said to be brothers. A million possibilities came to my mind, blackmail? Maybe he bullies him...
"Nia Cicida!" Mrs. Fernandez called, pulling me away from my thoughts. I looked around, everyone had their Science textbook out. I formed my mouth in the letter 'o' and quickly pulled out my book from my messenger bag. You can probably guess that I sometimes space out during class...
Once we finished reading all ten pages, (We are studying gravity) Mrs. Fernandez looked up from her book with a smile on her face, "You may now read the blue paper I just gave to you all," she smiled again.
I flipped the blue paper over, as did Natalie. It read: Dear parents/students,
For the Science homeroom, you all must be aware that your son/daughter is studying gravity this year. The school thought it would be fun to have a field trip to Disneyland, for more information, please read below--
"Oh, em, gee," Natalie's eyes widened, we both took each other's hands and squealed,
"Calm down mi ninas!" Mrs. Fernandez laughed. Everyone then started whispering to each other, and some were already planning which rides to ride. "Hold your horses there, children! You'll all be assigned to a certain ride and person, so don't get your hopes up!" she waved a finger at us, we all groaned.
"But why Mrs. Fernandez?" a wave of voices asked, she only held her finger to her lips and we were silenced.
"Now then, you'll all be going in groups of two. Some of you may get the same ride, so stick together. Each group will have a Walkie-Talkie, so make sure you're all on the same frequency." she then put on her reading glasses and looked down at our names, she then read aloud:
"Victoria and Carlos, Space Mountain,
Natalee and Korbin, Thunder Mountain," Me and Natalie exchanged sad glances.
Mrs. Fernandez then came to the last group, and I obviously knew who I would get.
"Maximillian and Nia, The Haunted Mansion," I then frowned. Yeah, I know, 'Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover" or maybe the all-famous, 'What Would Jesus Do?'
But Max seemed to have an aura of dread surrounding him, it seemed like something bad was going to happen... I shuddered at the very thought of it.
Natalie had Korbin, he seemed like a nice guy, if you think about it. The bell rang and it was time for lunch, but I didn't feel hungry. Me and Natalie sighed and walked out of the classroom.
Our lunch was silent today, me and Natalie ate in silence. I only bough some spicey fries and Pepsi, I glanced over at the table Max and Korbin were sitting at. Me and Max locked eyes, I then quickly turned my head away and continued to eat my lunch in silence.
"I can't believe this," Natalie muttered, breaking the quiet, "I thought a trip to Disneyland would be fun," we both sighed.
"I can't believe I have to ride The Haunted Mansion with that guy Max," I picked up a fry and tossed it into my mouth,
"Don't judge a book by its cover!" Natalie quoted, wagging her index finger at me. I just smiled in return, "Besides, he is kind of cute," Natalie grinned at me, I rolled my eyes at her and laughed.
"There is no way I like Maximillian Ment, no way!" I threw my fry at her, and she caught it. We both laughed,
lunch ended all too soon. The bell rang, and I ran to my next class, Language Arts. I opened my locker, and quickly slipped out my books for the next class. I ran to my class and sat down in my seat.
Max sits in back of me.
Joy.
~*~
I was then pulled out of my thoughts as someone tapped me on the head with a piece of paper, it was Kevin, an annoying boy who sat in front of me. He rolled his eyes, he was passing back a stack of papers the teacher had given to him. "Grab the paper, dumbo!" he hissed as her handed them to me. I narrowed my eyes at him,
"You enlighten me." I muttered sarcastically as I passed the stack of papers back, not even daring to look over my shoulder.
"Nia," I heard a voice whisper, I felt a cold finger tap me on the shoulder, I glanced over to see who it was. There was Max, staring at me with dark brown eyes. He was holding up what seemed to be an extra paper, "extra paper," he murmured so the teacher wouldn't hear. I nodded, and took the paper form him, passing it back up. I couldn't help but feel his eyes on my back as I stared straight at the blank board.
"Well class," The teacher spoke from her desk as she rose up. She had her reddish brown hair cropped short, she was about forty, or maybe thirty nine, her eyes were a blueish green. She smiled warmly, her class and and Mr. Saint-Germain's class were tied for second favorite. The teacher spoke, "I've been informed that you guys are going on a trip to Disneyland!" everyone cheered, Alec stood up on his chair, then hopped back down so he was sitting. "Nia," she lifted her head and pointed to me, "Welcome back, who did you get as your partner?"
"Max." I replied, crossing my arms and leaning back into the chair,
"Ah, the new student. What ride were you assigned to ride first?" she smiled again. Her name was Mrs. Acosta,
"Haunted Mansion," Max replied for me, his elbows were placed on the table.
"Ah yes, the Haunted Mansion," Mrs. Acosta laughed. When I was a kid, I found that ride terrifying, but now it was just... boring. I sighed, and cupped my hand around my chin.
"Nia, since Maximillian--" the teacher was cut off,
"Call me Max," the boy smiled and he motioned for her to continue,
"Nia, would you escort Max-" she smiled, "- to his next class?" she raised an eyebrow and waited for my response,
"But-- Math is downstairs, and I have history for my next.." I tried to protest, but Mrs. Acosta raised her index finger.
"No you won't, I'll give you a pass." she then sat back down at her desk. She glanced at the clock, "You have twenty minutes to complete page twenty seven. You may work with the person sitting around you," she then continued typing on her computer.
I glanced over at Natalie, she was helping Korbin with his homework. I sighed inwardly, I guess I'll have to help Max, I sighed, and spun around with my Grammar book and pen in hand.
"Need help?" I asked, he smiled and moved his books over. We didn't talk. I guess he might be the kind of kid who doesn't talk much, I thought.
The loud bell sounded, and I stood up, slinging my bag over my shoulder. "Come on," I started for the door.
We walked down the empty halls in silence, we then stopped in front of his classroom. "This is your next class," I turned around, he then stopped me,
"Nia!" he called, I walked back,
"Yeah?"
"I'm looking forward to that trip with you," he smiled and entered his classroom. END OF BOOK ONE The link to book two will be added next YEAR.
