This is the story of Oakchick and Wheatchick. It is based on the Warrior Cats Series by Erin Hunter.


Chapter 1


Wind swept through the grass bower, making Oakchick shiver. It had always been cold since his brother, Rootwing, had become an apprentice to an incredible Swooper. Now only Oakchick and Wheatchick remained. They were older than most chicks, but they were not permitted to become apprentices because they misbehaved so much. The flock leader of GrassFlock, Hazelsky, had been cross with them for the past moon for placing a toad in his nest.
It seemed so unfair that all their nestmates could become apprentices while they had to wait. Sooner or later we'll be too big to fit in here anymore, thought Oakchick. It was true. There was hardly any room left now because the chicks were so large. Oakchick's mother, Skybeak, was going to talk to Hazelsky the next day about making Oakchick and Wheatchick into apprentices so that she could get some peace. Wheatchick's mother, Maplefeather, had already moved back to the Swoopers' Nest. Wheatchick was like a sister to Oakchick, even though they came from completely different lines.
"Wheatchick? Are you awake?" whispered Oakchick.
"No," came a sleepy reply. "Please go to sleep, you tangled featherface!"
"Okay," he replied, "but I just can't wait until tomorrow. We might be sleeping in the apprentices' nest!"
"Well, until then, we're here. So go to sleep!"
