Chapter one:

Scenery rushed by as Addie stared out the window of the van. It was a cold foggy morning, and she was in a horrible mood, as she always was when waking up so early. You see, Addie was moving, along with her twin sister, Cass and their mom, and sadly they had to wake up around four o'clock in the morning, and she was more of a night person. An awkward air filled in the car, as the twins did not want to move, and they had made sure their mom knew it. Cass stared blankly out the window in the back seat, listening to her ipod, which was turned up very loud. Addie started shifting around, making squelching noises as her legs separated from the plastic. She pulled out an ipod, blasting it so loudly the whole car could hear it. Her mom twitched, "Addie, turn that down, try reading a book" She said, trying not to sound frustrated. Addie glared ahead, "Great, first you make us move, now this." Her mother sighed, this was going to be a long drive.

Finally, after many hours, the car pulled to a jerky stop. Addie and Cass stepped out, staring in horror at their new home. The large house looked old, and in deep need of repairs, how could their mother have bought it? The shingles were chipped, and the paint seemed to be peeling off. It looked as if the slightest touch would make it collapse. Their mother put an arm around each of their shoulders, "Won't this be fun? Its like a clean slate for decorating." The two nodded in fake enthusiasm as the workers took in boxes of their things, both were thinking the same thing, What next?

Chapter two:

Addie walked through the halls of the large house, shifting her gaze to doors. Usually she and her twin shared a room, but they didn't have to in this huge mansion like house. She finally stopped at the end of a hall, her eyes lit up as she gazed at a large black door. It was engraved with a sun, just like her pendant which she always wore. She pushed open the door, revealing a staircase, a door at the top. She ran up the steps, eyes alit with excitement as she pushed open the door. It was beautiful. The walls were lined with deep violet silk, the ceiling a glass dome, as this room was in a tower. There was a canopy bed pushed against a wall, and a door to a balcony on another. She set up her laptop on a desk, deciding to talk to her friend. A message alert popped up,

Message from Katiekat8

Addie groaned allowed, Katie was the popular girl at her old school, supposedly the nicest and prettiest at the middle school. The nice part was a lie. She clicked on the message, dreading it.

Katiekat8: OH.MY.WORD! i'm lke n tyrs addie! Arnt u?!!!?!?!!?
Dragon7fire: Um, not really, why are you upset exactly?
Katiekat8: cuz i needed some1 to shop at th big sale with me!!!!!!!!!! ur nt shpping at tht old creapy store anymre rght?
Dragon7fire: Um, no, it was only in New York might I remind you, and it wasn't creepy!!!
Katiekat8: whatevz, I gtg, my BFFL and i r goin to th mll! TTYL Maddie!

Addie rolled her eyes, that girls spelling was atrocious. She stood up, walking onto the balcony. She rested her head on her crossed arms. Why was it everything in life had to be so complicated? She sighed, turning around and entering her room, glancing at the clock. Bright green letters flashed in and out of view, 9:06. She usually went to bed around one in the morning, as she was a bookworm, but tonight was different. She sleepily changed into her black and red spotted pajamas, climbing into bed. She started her new school the next day.

Addie awoke to the sound of the dreaded alarm, light filtering in through the curtains. She groaned, sleepily standing up. She walked to her suitcase, as she hadn't unpacked yet. She pulled out her black and red ipod, (She had painted red dots) her Nightmare Before Christmas Tshirt, light washed skinny jeans, and a pair of Nike tennis shoes. She changed quickly, brushed her teeth, then fixed her hair, grabbed a strawberry poptart, her bag, and a water bottle and she was out the door. She ran onto the school bus, sitting down in an empty seat near the back, and putting in her earphones, not knowing what danger was in store for her.

Chapter three:

After a few endless moments, the doors finally closed as her house was the last stop the bus had to make. It pulled away from the curb, driving finally to the school. She sighed, everyone sat together, joking, talking, laughing. She had started late in the school year, and so she feared she wouldn't make any friends, sadly this would be the least of her worries. She shook her head, surprised they were already there. She must have been in deeper thought then she realized. She quickly ran off the bus, entering Brightwood Junior High. Sure, it seemed like a normal school, and that's what she thought it was. But she was dead wrong. If only she had noticed most of the students eyes were bright red.

Slowly, Addie walked to her new locker, reading the room numbers she had to go to. She threw it open, revealing a store of school supplies and books. She picked one up, and her eye brows rose. The book was black, with curling scrawled red text,

Dark magic studies.

Chapter four:

She smirked, it was obviously a joke. She slipped the book into her locker, rolling her eyes. She looked around, finally realizing what was missing. Cass. They had been rather standoffish towards each other since the move, and it was upsetting to Addie. But this, this was wrong. They always went to school together, fight or no. She looked around, noticing a boy staring at her. She smiled at him, trying to be friendly. His eyes widened and he walked away, his steps nervous. She shrugged, heading off to her first class.

Chapter five:

Thunder rumbled outside as Addie headed towards her class, more students seeming to appear in the hallways. She grimaced, turning into the room. It was a dimly lit classroom, with the normal desk and black board, desks in neat rows. What was different was the fact that the light pouring into the room was red, and the walls were black. She looked inquiringly at the other students, and teacher, receiving no reply. She spotted her twin, sitting alone at a desk. She hurried over and sat next to her. "Hey Cass." She whispered, smiling. Cass looked at her with a confused expression, before turning back to the front. Addie turned her attention to the front as well, what was going on with her? The teacher walked in, wearing complete black. He smiled, revealing pointed teeth. He started writing on the board, expecting them to follow and know what to do. She sighed, this was getting weirder and weirder. . . . . . .

Chapter six:

After about an hour, he turned to them, smiling. His smile was cold, with none of the warmth of a regular smile, it seemed evil. She shuddered, this school was really creeping her out now. She glanced at Cass, wondering what she thought. She paid no attention, simply stared blankly at the paper in front of her, writing none stop. This was unlike her, she usually didn't pay attention at all! Addie sighed, looking at the clock. And suddenly the bell rang loud and clear, startling her, but no one else. Everyone stood up at the exact same moment, all but her. She sighed, standing up as well. Slowly everyone shuffled out, her along with them.

Finally, after endless unnerving hours, school was over! She ran to her locker, everyone's movements seeming to be the same. She quickly grabbed her stuff, dashing out the door. She didn't wait for the bus, she didn't wait for anyone, not even Cass. She ran straight home, everything seeming eerie. Branches seemed like thousands of bony hands, trying to grab her. The sun cast an eerie glow, every person seemed to be creepy too. She finally arrived at her house, out of breath, and nervous. "Mom?" She called out.
"In the kitchen sweetie!" Came a reply. She entered the large room, her mom cooking something on the stove. "How was school?" She asked cheerfully, giving Addie a hug. She sighed, "Okay I guess, is Cass home?" She asked quickly. Her mom nodded, "Yes, she ran up to her room, I'm still exploring this place!" She laughed, starting to pour some milk into the pan. Addie nodded, dashing up the staircase, and to her sisters room. This would not be fun.

Chapter seven:

Addie entered her sisters room. It was painted to look like a night sky with purple in it, little stars speckled everywhere. She had her old bed, desk, etc. Cass sat on her bed, seeming to be in a daze. Addie walked over to her, "Cass, what happened today? You acted as though you never met me!" Her sister looked surprised, "W-what do you mean? We went to school?" She looked shocked, "I can't remember it at all. . . . . Must have been more tired then I thought." She settled on. Addie stared at her, shocked. This school was worse then she thought, maybe they brainwashed Cass!

Addie walked down the large staircase, slowly entering the kitchen. "Mom, can we go to a new school?" She asked quietly, pretending to be really inoccent. Her mom looked at her, "Why? Did something happen?" Addie shook her head, "No, well. . . . . . " She paused, she hadn't thought about what she would say. . . . . . She finally decided. "Well, I just can't make any friends. Everyone is really mean." She said, working up some crocodile tears. Her mom sighed, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Addie, it takes time to make friends. You'll find someone, okay?" She said. Addie inwardly groaned, that was a fail of epic proportions.

Chapter eight:

Addie was found laying on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. Perhaps the school wasn't that bad, perhaps she was only over reacting. Cass was always crazy, so that wasn't new. . . . She'd get used to it, right. . . ? Well, she'd just have to investigate, something just wasn't right. She stood, starting on her homework, she didn't want to know what happened when you got into trouble.

She awoke the next morning, to a ringing alarm clock, and light pouring in through the curtains. She stretched her arms, standing up. Quickly she got ready, brushing her teeth, hair, etc. She quickly got dressed, wearing a tshirt with a black and white city scene, dark washed skinny jeans, and tennis shoes. She grabbed some stuff, for her investigation; Gum, tape measure, duck tape, a journal, pencils, a few snacks, a water bottle, rope, a camera (for evidence), and some other stuff. She was known for getting into trouble. . . . . She ran out the door, excited for the day ahead.

Chapter nine;

Addie walked towards the bus stop, examining the bag's contents. She stepped onto the bus, everyone surprisingly silent. Oh, no one was there. She sat down in the second row, expecting them to stop many more times. . . . She waited. And waited. And waited. They didn't even stop once. The driver kept heading towards the school, ignoring her completely. "Um, hello? What about the other students?" She asked, pretty creeped out now. He only grunted, pulling into the parking lot for busses. Maybe. . . Maybe everyone died in a horrible meteor accident! She made up, deciding it could happen. She walked inside, disappointed to see many students running around, almost like robots. They moved so similarily, even her own sister! She scoffed, walking towards her locker. Even more to uncover. She noticed a black door, one which interested her very much. Slowly, she made her way over, acting as casual as possible. She tried turning the handle. Nothing. It was locked. Before she could react, the bell rang. She'd come back at lunch.

Chapter ten:

The rest of her classes seemed to go as slowly as three years to Addie, as she waited for lunch to arrive. She had to find out what was behind that door. It was most likely the place where they brain washed students. But eventually, it did arrive, and the kids made their way to the cafeteria. Talking and laughing. . . . . She on the other hand, made her way down the corridors, back to the door. She peeked around the corner, holding her breath. Empty. Smiling, she dashed over to the door, pulling out a hair pin. It'd have to do. She bent it a bit, before sticking it into the lock. She held her ear to the door, with no idea of what she was doing. Suddenly, she heard an almost silent click. Score. She turned the door, stepping into the darkness which lay within.

Chapter 11:
Surprisingly, there was a staircase. Leading to the creepiest basement Addie had ever seen. She shuddered, taking a few more steps into the darkness. She edged along the wall, as the door swung close. What little light was there, no longer remained. "Ah, this may be difficult." She whispered to herself, starting to edge down the stairs. She tried to count the steps, to keep track of time. She had only an hour, and she didn't want someone to find her down here. She was on the thirty-seventh step already. Ugh, it was taking forever! A red glow came from the bottom of the staircase. She gulped, trying to stay to the shadows. Fifty-eighth step. And far more to come. What the heck was at the bottom?

Chapter twelve:

Addie held her breath, as she heard footsteps echoing at the bottom. Fear filled her mind, as she tried to think of what she should do. They could have been coming up the stairs, and would have seen her. But, she was so curious! She was close to the bottom now, and could see everything pretty well. It was a large room, with doors lining every inch of the wall. In the middle of the room, was something like a large bowl, filled to the brim with fire. She assumed this was where the red glow had come from, though all the doors themselves were red. She kneeled, hidden by shadow. Circling the room, was the scariest thing she thought she'd ever seen. It was a phoenix she thought, because of its fiery looking feathers. She also had noticed, how sharp its beak was, and its clawed feet. As quietly as she could, she pulled out her camera. She held her breath as it turned to look around the area she was, letting out a long high pitched shriek. She couldn't imagine how she'd never heard it before! Turning off the flash, she snapped a picture, before sneaking up the stairs. She heard footsteps coming nearer again, and thought she heard a man's voice speaking, though she wasn't sure. She climbed and climbed, for what seemed like hours. But eventually, she arrived at the top. Throwing open the door, she came face to face with the boy she had seen staring at her before. And he did not look happy.

Chapter thirteen (Finally, right? xD)

Addie felt as though the breath was knocked out of her, and he snatched her wrist and half pulled, half dragged her quickly. "What were you doing?!" He demanded coldly, pulling her into an empty classroom. He glared at her, crossing his arms. Addie studied him for a moment, regarding him irritably. He was a bit taller then her, with paper white skin. His shoulder length hair was kinda a sea foam green color. It was then that she noticed his luminous yellow eyes. "Well?" He asked a bit more calmly, though his tone still held an edge of menace. "I wanted to see what was down there.." Addie replied nonchalantly, though inside she felt anything but calm. "You-! Give me the camera." The odd boy said, holding out his hand. "Why should I?" Addie demanded, taking a hasty step back. She pulled it out of her pocket, staring at him. He snatched it away from her, deleting the picture of the phoenix. After he had done this, he tossed it back. "Well, going to tell me your name?" She snapped angrily, annoyed and upset that this guy just deleted her proof. "Yarai." He muttered.

Chapter fourteen:

Yarai shifted uneasily, looking at her with a flat expression, lacking any emotion. Addie glared at him, crossing her arms fiercely. "Well, going to tell me what's going on? My sister is acting totally weird, there's a phoenix, all the students here act like robots-!" He sighed slowly, looking at her with a grimace. "I can't tell you," He paused, edging a bit closer to her. "right now. Meet me in the front of the school at Midnight tonight, kay?" She looked at him nervously, not exactly trusting him. "Fine."

Seconds seemed to pass as minutes, minutes as hours, and hours as days. Addie could hardly concentrate on anything, an anxious panic overtaking her mind. She sat in her room, spinning in her desk chair uneasily. Her hands shook as she picked up her pencil, figuring she should write a note. . . . Just in case. Adeline looked at the clock, its bright green numbers flashing 11:32. She shakily wrote a note to her mom, in case anything occurred that kept her for a while. . . But she really preferred not to think about that. Snatching up her bag with her kit of tools, she crept down the hallway. A creepy silence had whispered through the large house, completely unnerving her. She always hated being out at night, unable to see almost everything through the darkness. She threw open the front door, pulling up the hood of her hoodie, and closing it as quietly as possible.
