This is a newspaper that updates you on everything HP! All articles are written by members of the Harry Potter Club here on WI. There's all kinds of news and behind the scenes, along with fun things like HP recipes and crafts to do! The newspaper will be released every 2 months on the 7th because 7 is the most powerful magical number. An 8th Harry Potter Movie?

In the Harry Potter universe, seven is the most powerfully magical number, but if you ask Lord Voldemort, eight divisions can sometimes be just as nice as well. Now, like an unexpected horcrux, Potter fans will get a surprise eighth division for themselves, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book in the series, is going to be divided into two separate full-length films.
The films, which will simply be called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, will be filmed by director David Yates, who previously directed both Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter, says, "I think it's the only way you can do it without cutting out a huge portion of the book. There have been compartmentalized subplots in the other books that have made them easier to cut — although those cuts were still to the horror of some fans — but the seventh book doesn't really have any subplots. It's one driving, pounding story from the word go."
The novel, which came out in July, 2008, follows Harry and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, as they search for Voldemort’s horcruxes, magical artifacts in which the Voldemort, seeking immortality, has concealed parts of his soul, and plan to destroy them all. All the while, a climatic battle for control of the wizarding world looms on the horizon.
It's a dense, action-packed story that brings many subplots to a close, each step of the journey a necessary one to either further the plot or tie up loose ends, insisted "Potter" producer David Heyman, who rejected the idea that the division was made solely to capitalize on the lucrative box-office receipts.
"I swear to you it was born out of purely creative reasons," Heyman said. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book."
According to reliable sources, the seventh film will be released in November 2010, while the eighth is designated for May 2011. They both will be written by veteran Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves.

Golden Snitch Pin or Magnet

Materials

White craft foam

Gold or yellow colored "pom - pom"

Hot glue gun or craft glue

Gold glitter, glitter glue or sequins

Pin back or self sticking magnetic strip
Scissors

Instructions

1.Trace the shape of the wings on the craft foam.

2. Cut out the foam wings.
*Optional*
Decorate with glitter, sequins or glitter glue. Use craft glue or a hot glue gun to attach the pom-pom's and pin backs. I recommend a hot glue gun (adults only) for faster drying time.

Luna’s Radish Earrings

Materials

Red and white polymer clay

Toothpick

Paperclip

Green seed beads

Fishing line

Hooked wire earrings

Instructions

Mold white and red clay into a radish-like shape.

Using the toothpick, add details and blend the two clays for a more realistic look.

Open up one end of the paperclip and push into the top of each radish, leaving about 1/4” (0.64 cm) of the curve of the wire at the top.

Bake following manufacturer’s directions. Allow to cool.

String green beads on fishing line and tie to paperclip loop.

End with a hooked earring.

Repeat for second earring.

Hagrid's Rock Cookies

Preparation Time

20 minutes

Ingredients:

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup cocoa

3 cups quick-cooking oats (instant oats)

3/4 cup peanut butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

Mix first four ingredients in saucepan.

Boil one minute.

Remove from heat.

Stir in oats.

Add remaining ingredients.

Drop onto wax paper and let cool.

Soft Pumpkin Cookies

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup (375 ml) or small can pumpkin

2 cups (200 grams) flour (any kind)

1 cup (200 grams) white sugar

1/2 cup (75 grams) shortening

1/2 tsp (3 ml) salt

1 tsp (5 ml) each of vanilla, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder

6oz (180 grams) package of semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Instructions:

Put all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl.

Pre-heat oven at 375°F (190°C).

Grease your baking sheets

Mix the pumpkin, flour, white sugar, shortening, salt, vanilla, cinnamon, baking soda and baking powder, then add the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Drop onto greased baking sheets by teaspoon fulls. Use 2 teaspoons and transfer the dough back and forth to get uniform dough ball sizes so they all come out the same.

Bake 12-15 minutes at 375°F (190°C). Keep an eye on how fast different levels in your oven cook. The cookies are done when they are golden brown or if a toothpick comes out dry.

Cool on rack. Chocolate is hot enough to burn you if you eat them to early.

The cookies are soft and become messy if humid or if put in airtight container. Can be frozen.

Featured Character

NAME: Cedric Diggory

INFO: Cedric Diggory, who is played by the famous Robert Pattinson-was in Hufflepuff, and the seeker of their Quidditch team. Cedric was in his sixth year of Hogwarts when he was chosen for the Triwizard Tournament. Harry Potter told Cedric that the first event involved dragons, as he was the only one who didn’t know. During the first event, to get the golden egg from the dragon, Cedric had to battle the Swedish short snout, and got the golden egg with only a burn on his face. In the second event, Cedric tipped Harry off about taking the golden egg into the Prefects bathroom to find out about the second event as thanks for the tip off about the dragons. His exact words to Harry were, “You know the Prefects' bathroom on the fifth floor? It's not a bad place for a bath. Just take your egg and...Mull things over in the hot water." In the second event, in which you had to rescue a loved one from the underwater Merpeople, he had to save Cho Chang. He performed a successful bubblehead charm to breathe underwater, and saved Cho. In the third and final task, both Harry and Cedric grabbed the cup, which was actually a port key that took them to The Little Hangleton Graveyard. There, Cedric was killed by having the spell, Avada Kedavra used on him. While Harry was battling Voldemort, the ghosts of people Voldemort had killed came out of his wand. Cedric was one of them. They helped Harry defeat Voldemort, and Cedric’s ghost asked Harry to take back his body to his parents. Harry did so, and when people realized what happened, there was much grief. These were the words Albus Dumbledore said about Cedric. "We'll celebrate a boy who was, kind and honest, and brave, true right to the very end." "Another one of Dumbledore’s quotes on Cedric was, “Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss. Cedric Diggory was as you all know, exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair-minded and most importantly a fierce, fierce friend.”

WHAT CEDRIC DID TO HELP HOGWARTS: Cedric was a great seeker on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team and everyone admired him. He helped Harry Potter in the Triwizard Tournament, and he tried to keep people from being mean to Harry because he was a 4th champion. He was a great addition to Hufflepuff and is greatly missed.

This month’s featured spell is... Cave Inimicum! This spell is used to help protect an enclosure from enemies. The incantation, pronounced KAH-vay ih-nih-MIH-kum, comes from the Latin word caveo, or beware, and inimicus, which means enemy. Literally it means, “Beware the enemy,” which makes sense, doesn’t it?

Quidditch
Well, the World Cup is drawing near, and the excitement is mounting. Let’s take a look at some of the scores so far, shall we?

The Tornados were beaten 170-180 in the first match of the season by Poland. Transylvania creamed Scotland the very next day, winning 260-10. Russia lost by a hair to England soon afterwards, losing 190-200, and Australia had to suffer through the Moose Jaw Meteorites’ victory flight after the 170-30 ending to the match the next week. Last Saturday at the semi-finals we witnessed the Bulgarians triumph over Uganda with an amazing score of 160-0. The match lasted around a minute and a half, with Bulgarian Seeker Draganov catching the Snitch before Uganda’s Seeker could blink.

Featured Beast
The Acromantula is a highly dangerous and is impossible to train. It has eight eyes and legs and is able to speak English. It's native to the island Borneo, where it lives in jungles. It has thick black hair that covers its body. The legs of the spider can grow to 15 feet long with pincers that click when it is excited or angry.
Acromantula venom is very valuable and can be used in some potions. It is almost impossible to acquire the venom when the spider is alive.
Acromantulas are carnivorous and prefer large prey. It has been known to attack wizards and Muggles alike.
The beast is believed to have been made to protect wizard dwellings or treasures or other items.
Even though Acromantulas have near human intelligence it cannot be trained and no one should attempt to train it or risk injuries.
It spins a dome-shaped web upon the ground. The female is larger than the male and can lay up to 100 eggs in the nest. The eggs are soft and white and are as big as beach balls. They will hatch in six to eight weeks. They are illegal to trade or sell and if they are sold or traded, both ends of the deal get punished by the Ministry of Magic.

Daniel Radcliffe and David Heyman Talk Deathly Hallows Split(courtesy of Mugglenet)
David says, “We’ve played around with a couple of places and ultimately settled on a place that we think is very exciting, and I think quite bold, in that it’s not necessarily where one might expect. You want to give a sense of completion, on one hand, but a sense that there’s another piece, more to come. We tried one and then Steve (Kloves, screenwriter) came up with the idea to try it another way and when we tried that, it felt just right.”
Daniel says that the split is “at a very intense cliff-hanger”. He also speaks briefly about the epilogue saying, “I am nervous about that because if it’s good I’ll be really, really pleased; if it’s not good and that’s what people are left with, that would be awful. If it’s a choice between having me, Rupert, and Emma looking a bit stupid and it being slightly comical or having other actors play us, I would go for other actors every time. So we’ll see."

I doubt he likes the other girl. If Rita said it was probably a lie. And the fact that he asked you out proves he likes you. And guys just don’t get jealous unless you flirt with someone else. And I don’t think he was looking at the blonde, he was probably staring at Roger trying to figure out how he did it, the reason behind it was he likes you a lot and wanted to make sure everything went right. And I know love is hard but you have to move on and if he saw him die and you still like this man then you probably shouldn’t mention it. It would make him feel uncomfortable and make you cry. Better luck on your next date, remember to give him another chance.

A Day in the Life of a Wizard
Next spring, in Orlando Florida there is a very special park opening in universal, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This park contains Hagrid’s Hut, Hogsmeade village and Hogwarts castle. There are 2 rides that witches and wizards can enjoy; there is the Dragon Challenge (the first task in the tri-wizard tournament) and the Flight of the Hippogriff, in which Hagrid first gives us a Care of Magical Creatures Lesson on hippogriffs. In Hogsmeade village there is Ollivander, where you receive a wand like in the novels (the wand chooses the wizard), Zonko’s prank shop, the Three Broomstick and Hog’s Head where you can purchase pumpkin juice and butter bear, Filches Emporium of Confiscated Goods, The Owlry, Owl Post where people can actually send letters and post cards with the Hogsmeade postmark on them, Dervish and Banges and Honeydukes sweet shop. Inside the castle there is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (we don’t know a lot about what is in the caste other than that yet). All Harry Potter fans are still wondering when this will be open the only time frame universal has given us is sometime in spring of 2010. Well this will definitely be like walking into a Harry Potter book as J.K. Rowling has help with the making of the park very closely. Keep watching out for the date in later editions of the Daily Prophet!

Hello again, Sports Fans! A few weeks ago, we all witnessed Bulgarian Seeker Draganov zoom past the confused Transylvanian Seeker to capture the Snitch, and the World Cup title, in one fell swoop.
Tomorrow the season starts afresh as Poland plays Australia to start us off!

Animals involved in A History of Harry Potter

Many magical and non-magical creatures are involved in the wizarding world. I’m sure you all know about the Wizard’s Postal Service, Owls. You should also already know that each house has its own heraldic animal. Gryffindor-The Lion, Ravenclaw-The Eagle, (Although I wonder why not a Raven), Hufflepuff-The Badger, and Slytherin-The Snake. But did you know… Dragons are used in the Triwizard tournament, and also to guard Gringotts. Dementors, (If you can even call them animals) are prison guards at the wizard prison Azkaban. Werewolves are unfortunate people or children who have been bitten by other werewolves. (I’m sure you know that already) Unicorns are very pure creatures. Their silver blood can make you immortal, but at a high price; a half existence. You will never be truly alive if you drink Unicorn blood. Phoenixes are intensely magical birds. Their tears can heal wounds, and their tail feathers are often found in wands. When they die, they burst into flame and are reborn from the ashes. Hippogriffs are proud part Eagle, part Horse creatures. They don’t like people who blink too much, so don’t approach a Hippogriff if you have something in your eye. If a Hippogriff trusts you, you might even be able to ride it. Never insult a Hippogriff if you know what’s good for you.

The Holyhead Harpies

Who are the Holyhead Harpies?
The Holyhead Harpies are the second-oldest Quidditch team in the league (Founded in 1203), and also the only all-female national Quidditch team.

What are some of the players?
Glynnis Griffiths was Seeker during the seven-day match against the Heidelberg Harriers in 1953. She caught the Golden Snitch, ending what is considered to be one of the finest games ever seen.

Gwendolyn Morgan also played in the Heidelberg Harriers match. At the end of the game, the Harriers captain Rudolf Brand proposed to her. She promptly concussed him with her Cleansweep Five.

Gwenog Jones is the current Captain and Beater of the Harpies. Her Chocolate Frog card (If you have already collected her Chocolate frog card, you have no need to read this) says:

Born in 1968, Gwenog Jonas is the captain and Beater of the only all-female national Quidditch team, the Holyhead Harpies. After a game, she enjoys relaxing with friends, drinking Butterbeer, and listening to the Weird Sisters.

Holyhead Harpies fun facts:
Ginevra Weasley was a Holyhead Harpies player at some point in-between 1998 and 2017.
The Harpies playing robes are dark green with a gold talon emblazoned on the chest.
The Holyhead Harpies are unique among the Quidditch teams around the world because they only have and will hire witches.

Ton Tongue Toffee
Difficulty: Easy

Preparation Time
30 minutes

Servings
30 [1 ¼ lbs]

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
8 tbsp butter
1/2 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 1/4 cups water

Instructions
1. Place all ingredients in a heavy saucepan.
2. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
3. Without stirring, boil until mixture reaches 290 °F on a candy thermometer.
4. Pour into a buttered, 9-by-12-inch pan.
5. Let cool until almost firm to the touch.
6. Mark into 2-inch squares with a sharp knife.
7. When cool, break into squares or shards.

Dark Mark Biscuits
Difficulty: Extreme

Supplies
One batch of Malt Biscuits
One batch of Chocolate Malt Biscuits
Milk
Pastry Brush
Gummy worms or snakes
Rectangular cookie cutter, or knife for cutting the dough
Edible Dark Mark Box
Biscuits

Servings
Makes 20 to 30 biscuits.

Ingredients
2 cups (0.45 Kg) flour
½ cup (113.4 g) malt extract, honey syrup or golden syrup
½ cup (113.4 g) sugar
3 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp water
½ tsp baking soda

Malt Biscuits

Instructions
1. Put all ingredients except the flour into a saucepan and dissolve over moderate heat.
2. When dissolved, remove from the heat and stir in the flour.
3. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator in a covered bowl for 10-15 minutes (or longer if required) to make the dough a more suitable consistency for rolling.

Chocolate Malt Biscuits

Follow the instructions for the Malt Biscuits, substituting 2 Tbsp. of flour for 2 Tbsp. of cocoa and add with the flour to the mixture when it is removed from the heat.

Dark Marks

1. Make one batch of malt biscuits and one batch of chocolate malt biscuits. [Instructions above]
2. Roll out thin on a lightly floured surface.
3. Cut out the chocolate malt biscuit dough into rectangular shapes and brush lightly with milk.
4. Cut skulls out of the malt biscuit dough and place one on top of each the chocolate rectangles.
5. Cut the gummy worms or candy snakes lengthwise and then across to make a short, thin "snake".
6. Place the snake on the biscuit decoratively coming from the skull's mouth.
7. Brush the remainder of the biscuit lightly with milk.
8. Bake at 350°F (180°C) until for approximately 10 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Info: The book lover we all know! Hermione Granger has always helped Harry and Ron get through things with all of her spells and witchcraft. An exceptional student, Hermione aced her O.W.L.'s, (ordinary wizard level) as well as standard exams in the past years. Her two best friends are Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley, whom she became close to after they saved her from a troll. She has bushy brown hair, brown eyes, and slightly large front teeth which were shrunk down to normal size in her 5th year after a spell mishap in the hallways. After years of hurt and jealousy, Hermione finally got her happy ending with Ron. The very last chapter of the Harry Potter series shows Hermione, Ron, and Harry's life 19 Years Later. Hermione and Ron meet Harry and Ginny at the Hogwart's Express before saying goodbye to their children, Rose and Hugo. Hermione's played by actress Emma Watson, who was born in Paris, France, and now lives in London, England.

What Hermione did to help Hogwarts: Mostly known for helping Harry Potter in saving the wizarding world, Hermione played a big role in helping Hogwarts. She also did small things such as starting S.P.E.W. to help raise awareness for house elf rights. Hermione, being an amazing student, helped others with their studying and homework when in need, especially her closest friends Ron and Harry.

The Ashwinder is created when a fire which a magical substance has been added to (Floo powder, etc.) burns unchecked for too long. A pale-gray snake with glowing red eyes is born from the fire and will slither away into the shadows of the building, leaving an ashy trail behind it.
The Ashwinder lives for only an hour and during that time looks for a dark secluded area to lay eggs in, afterward it will collapse into dust. The beasts eggs are flaming red and exudes heat. They will ignite the dwelling in minutes if not found and frozen with a suitable Freezing charm. Any witch or wizard that realizes that one or more Ashwinders are loose in their house must track them down using the ashy trail and locate the eggs. Once frozen, the eggs are very valuable in Love Potions.
Ashwinders are found worldwide.
