I wanted to write this story for awhile now but I've been very busy. Now I have free time so I'm writing it.
If you know what Kingdom Hearts is than this story is Mickey's side of the story before he went missing. It's basically like a prequel before the actual game.
I hope you enjoy this, it's my first story here!

Preface I was walking in the courtyard of Disney Castle when my life changed and it would never go back to being normal again...
Chapter 1 "Mickey!" I heard someone calling my name and the sound of running footsteps. I turned around to see who it was, it was Minnie.
"Yes, Minnie what is it?" I hope I didn't sound rude because I was feeling so relaxed right now. Who wouldn't feel relaxed on this great day? Disney Castle is the most wonderful place to be, it's always sunny, everyone is happy, and nothing can go wrong here. Now here I am, feeling a bit stressed because Minnie wouldn't be in such a hurry to find me unless there was a problem.
Now if you didn't guess already who I was, I am Mickey, but not just Mickey. I am the King, king of what you ask? I am King Mickey Mouse of Disney Castle and Minnie is Queen Minnie Mouse of Disney Castle.
"Mickey, I have some news of a stranger coming to Disney Castle. The guards tell me a mysterious stranger has been requesting to speak to the King. Well, of course that's you, but he hasn't told the guards the reason he wants to speak to you." Minnie sounded like she explained the whole world to me, she was definitley in a rush to find me.
"Minnie why don't we go into the castle and get you something to drink. You sound like you're out of breath," I led her to the castle
"Thank you, Mickey. The guards won't let him in until he gives us a reason to talk to you. So don't worry yet." While I led Minnie to the castle I was already thinking about what this stranger needs to tell me.
There goes the rest of my day
Chapter 2 "Now Minnie, do you have anything else to tell me about this stranger?" I was anxious now. After we got inside Disney Castle, I was attacked by guards telling me what I already knew about the stranger. He wanted to talk to me, very mysterious, and the big problem he woulnd't tell the guards why he wanted to see to me. Goofy, captain of the Royal Guards a.k.a guards for me, came up to me.
"Gawrsh, Your Majesty, I'm sorry for what my guards did, please don't be mad at us." "It's alright Goofy. I'm pretty sure they all have something to tell me," I told him.
"Goofy, would you please assemble everyone in Disney Castle to the Audience Chamber, please?" Minnie asked. That would be a good idea, maybe someone else might know something about the stranger.
"Yes Your Majesty. Ay...huck fellas! Go find everyone else and tell them there's a meeting in the Audience Chamber!" Goofy yelled while leading the way. Minnie and I were on our way to the kitchen to get Minnie a drink.
After Minnie drank some water she explained what she knew. Which wasn't as much as before, the only thing new to me was that the stranger looked oddly like me, but his voice and his attitude was quite different from mine. Also, he seems to only ask to talk to me and when the guards say no he just walks away saying he'll be back tomorrow.
"Thank you, Minnie. Maybe this stranger will finally realize that if he wants to speak to me he should tell the guards what's it about."
"Now let's head to the Audience Chamber before everyone starts to worry where we are" I laughed to mostly to myself. They will go crazy if I wasn't there because well... I'm the King, and if I disappeared there would be a gigantic search party. Sometimes I wish I could be a normal person instead of the King of Disney Castle.
As soon as we arrived at the Audience Chamber, I felt Minnie and I fall to the ground and someone was on top of us. We've been attacked by some stranger in the castle. I tried to scream for help but there was something like a gag stopping my scream. It's the end of King Mickey Mouse.
Chapter 3 "Help, help!" I tried to scream but I knew it wouldn't make a difference considering a hand was covering my mouth. After we fell from the attack, the stranger covered my eyes so I couldn't see anything and my mouth so I couldn't make any noise. I heard him take Minnie away from my side but I didn't know if he still had her here or that she was safe. I tried to scream for her but I couldn't. After what felt like forever the hand covering my mouth let go and that was my chance to get some answers.
"Who are you and what happened to Minnie?" I asked trying to get some answers just in case he covered my mouth again. There was a strange silence and no reply. It sounded like he was hesitating on what to tell me and in the end he didn't answer. I wanted to ask again but his hand was back on my mouth and it felt like we were in a hurry to somewhere. When he removed his hands from my eyes and mouth I got to see who this guy was. I gasped.
"D-Do-Donald?!" I was trying to hide my anger and my surprise but I couldn't. Donald was my best pal, why would he do this to me? Donald looked hurt and ashamed. He tackled the King and Queen. I forgot to mention that Donald is the Royal Court Magician.
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty but we had to get you away from the Audience Chamber," he said sounding a bit nervous. "What do you mean, We?" I asked. I was even angrier because if this is how they were going to treat their King, a pal to everyone, I knew there was a problem. People just don't go around tackling their King.
"Yes sir, once we heard there was a meeting in the Audience Chamber we were there as quick as possible. While we were waiting for you and Queen Minnie, Goofy explained why we were here and if anyone knew about the stranger. Chip and Dale said they saw something, but we were attacked my some shadowy figures. I tried magic to get rid of them but nothing. Daisy ran outside to warn you about this but she heard your voice from the hall. Then I ran outside to get you away, when I stepped through the door there you were with Minnie and I stopped you from coming in. I'm sorry if I scared you, Your Majesty." That was alot and I knew what to do, I needed to know what those things were.
Chapter 4
“It’s alright, Donald. Now do ya know where Minnie is?” I was thinking of what to do, but first I needed to know where Minnie was.
“I sure do, Your Highness. I told her to stay away from the Audience Chamber while the others were trying to get rid of those creatures. I think she’s in the Library.” “Thanks, Donald. I’ll be goin’.” I left Donald to check on the Audience Chamber while I went to find Minnie. Walking down the hallway I felt something watching me in the shadows. I turned every time I felt something staring but the only thing there was a black mist. Strange…?
Finally reaching the Library after the weird walk I opened the door hoping to find Minnie in there. She was, but the room was completely dark and there was fog. There was a strange light that was coming from me. I saw 2 shadows in the room but all I wanted now was to find Minnie, I figured out which was Minnie’s shadow and walked through fog to her.
I finally found Minnie with the help of the light, something was wrong with Minnie as soon as I saw her face. Her eyes were black like they always were but their shine was gone, instead there was fog in her eyes.
“Minnie are ya okay?”
“Mickey, something’s wrong… I don’t feel the good or light in my heart anymore…” she whispered like there wasn’t any hope for her. “Minnie does it have anything to do with the fog and darkness in here?” “Maybe… I need light,” she sounded hopeless.
“Light!” Magic I learned from Yen Sid while he was my mentor and I was his apprentice. A sphere of light burst out from my hand, the fog and darkness disappeared from the room. Minnie blinked and her eyes had the shine again, everything was back to normal.
“Mickey, when Donald told me to stay away from the Audience Chamber I knew the next safest place was the Library. When I came in the room it was dark and something pushed me in. I lost all the good and light in my heart until you brought it back.” She smiled at me and then I saw something on the desk, a letter with my name on it.
Chapter 5 I reached for the letter when I stopped and thought about it. Who would leave me a letter behind without telling me what’s it about and was it safe to read? I heard a gasp from behind.
I spun around to find Minnie staring wide-eyed at something behind me, turning slowly around I saw the same black shadow from the hallway around the letter. Something was drawing me to read the letter so I started to reach for it, when the mist touched my hand it bounced off. Something must be protecting me from the darkness so I wouldn’t be in a trance like Minnie…
I opened the letter and read what was inside:
Dear Mickey,
I’m writing this letter to you to warn you about the darkness that is eating away all the light in the separate worlds out there. I’m sorry but this was the only way to get your attention, seeing every time I went to Disney Castle I wasn’t allowed to talk to you without a reason. If I scared you I apologize for that.
You don’t know anything about this, but I suggest you look into it or you might be too late. Believe everything I say because all of this is the key to our survival.
You know how to break the barriers that separate all the worlds, go meet your old friend, Ansem the Wise, at Hollow Bastion and he’ll explain everything to you. He’s been studying the creatures that were in the Audience Chamber earlier today, Heartless.
There’s not much more I can tell without revealing who I really am and how I know all of this, but check the stars at night and if you notice some are missing than that would be the darkness destroying the worlds.
Mickey, you have to do this or everything and everyone in the universe are doomed!

I stared at the letter. What am I suppose to do?
Chapter 6
Re-reading this letter didn’t help at all.
I understood everything in it but I didn’t get if it was true or not. Anyone could write me a letter about this but what kept popping up in my mind is how the stranger knew I could break the barriers and that I was friends with Ansem. The last time I met Ansem he normally keeps to himself when he’s working. The main question was what am I suppose to do?
Should I follow the instructions a stranger told me to do or should I ignore it. As King I should do this, I help anyone if I can, but if I have to fight against those creatures that I heard of in the Audience Chamber I might get myself killed or worse. If those creatures were the things that made Minnie look empty than that would be worse than dying, walking around without any emotions.
I sighed this was going to be a tough choice, I’ll need to think about it a lot. Stuffing the letter in my pocket I turned to Minnie who was looking at me hard, I avoided her stare.
“Mickey, what was that you were holding?” She sounded strange, although she almost had all her good and light taken away.
“It was nothin’, just a piece of paper. Let’s go check on the others.” I was trying to change the subject before she asked more questions. It wasn’t easy. Minnie looked at me strangely, before turning away, which made me almost confess about the letter. I wouldn’t fall for her trick, she always did this when she wanted to know something.
“Okay Mickey let’s go to the Audience Chamber,” she said without turning back towards me, she was mad at me for not telling her about the letter. I didn’t want to make her angrier so I silently followed her out the hall and into the Audience Chamber.
When we entered everyone was cleaning up the mess the shadowy figures left, I just knew the shadows were connected to the darkness in the Library. I scanned the crowd looking for Donald and Goofy, they were the only people I’d trust for help. When I found them they were talking to Chip N’ Dale way in the back. I walked through the crowd when everyone noticed me and started telling me everything that happened.
I was swallowed by everyone else, but Donald and Goofy, how would I talk to them now?
Chapter 7
“Okay everyone I know what happened and I know everything already. Now, please excuse me,” I pulled free of everyone and went to where I last saw Donald and Goofy. They weren’t there but Chip and Dale were.
“Hey fellas, have you seen Donald and Goofy?”
“We sure did, Your Majesty, they were right here a few minutes ago.”
“Thanks, do you know where they went?”
“We’re sorry, Your Majesty. We don’t know where they went, all they told us was to keep what we were talking about a secret.”
“Well thanks anyway,” I left them and went back to the Library, I was upset and disappointed that I didn’t get to talk to Donald and Goofy.
I passed everyone when I stopped at the door and noticed something felt different. Was the Audience Chamber always this dark, it was brighter wasn’t it? I turned to everyone else and saw they stopped moving too, they weren’t just moving they were frozen in time, weird.
Maybe it was just me, I walked over to everyone when I felt a shake.
The room was suddenly filled with a dark feeling, something bad was in here with me but what? I turned around looking for the cause but it was pointless, everywhere was a black fog. I couldn’t see a thing but I heard a sound. I walked to where I heard it but all I saw was fog. I swore this is where the sound was coming from but nothing.
After a couple minutes the black fog disappeared and I saw the Audience Chamber was back and everyone else too, didn’t they know what just happened, or it was just in my mind. Maybe it was just my imagination.
I left everyone and went back to the Library, I needed someplace quiet so I can think about what just happened.
I opened the door and was swallowed again by a black fog.
Something dark was in here, and its target was me.
Chapter 8
“Who’s there!?” I didn’t like it in here at all but somehow the door was locked with me being inside, doors don’t lock unless from the inside but I didn’t touch it. I have a feeling that whatever happened in the Audience Chamber was a trap for me all along.
No reply but I knew something was in here. There wasn’t much sound other than my breathing.
Okay try to stay calm…
Scratch… Scratch… Scratch
A scratching sound but where was it coming from?
Scratch… Scratch… Scratch
There it was again!
I knew it must be in here some where but I who could see anything in this fog? The sound seems to be coming from the wall from the other side of the room, it wasn’t that far but for all I know there could be a giant hole in the middle of the floor.
Standing still was the best idea but right now that sound was tempting me to walk there. I knew where it was coming from and who doesn’t want to know what it was, but my mind is telling me to stay where I was. So I did.
After a long time the lights still didn’t come back on. That was the bad part. The good thing was that the scratching sound stopped, I guess whoever it was was done in here. Another bad thing was that I didn’t know if they were still in here or it was just me standing in a dark room.
Again, I didn’t want to be a fool to walk to see if the lights were back just in case something bad happened so still standing here, I wish I had a chair.
When the lights came back my legs were killing me so I sat down quickly. After sitting I glanced over the Library to see if anything was different, everything was okay. Still something didn’t feel right in here…
Still sitting I felt a cold breeze blow by and looked to see where it came from, we didn’t have any windows in here so it couldn’t be a window.
There was a whisper on the breeze saying something, but what?
“Mickey…” I turned and saw my name written in big letters on the wall in front of me.
Chapter 9
“Mickey…” I turned and saw my name written in big letters on the wall in front of me.
What was happening to me?
“Listen to the… letter you got…today…” The words were coming out all separated and in a whisper, it was hard to tell what everything meant.
“In the letter… holds the key… to save the world…” I waited listening. Please tell me there’s more than this, I needed help.
“Believe everything… you’ve been told…” That was the end of the message.
Believe what that I’ve been told what to do and how to save the world by a stranger and a voice?! What was happening to me?!
I didn’t know what to do, it seems to me they want me to go see Ansem but should I? They also told me to check the stars at night and if some of them are missing than the darkness really were destroying the worlds.
Later that night I went up to the balcony to look at the stars. I never really take an interest in looking at them for long so I didn’t see any thing unusual. I found the brightest star looked at it long, it was really bright. Next to it I saw this dull looking star, I really wasn’t looking for it. It looked like it was almost fading away but stars can’t disappear.
Than it vanished, the stars were fading or the worlds were being destroyed by the darkness! So everything is true… Heartless, darkness, and the key to our survival. Well I guess it’s time for me to build a ship to travel to Hollow Bastion, I’ll do that tomorrow it was getting pretty late.
The next day I spent the whole day building a Gummi Ship. It turns out what’s protecting the worlds, Gummi material, can be turned into a block that can build a ship and I can pass through the barriers because they won’t find anything but Gummi.
I didn’t tell anyone where I was going, I didn’t want them to worry about the Darkness. I left early in the morning only Chip and Dale knew about the Gummi Ship because they were the Gummi Ship’s Hangar mechanics.
“Remember fellas, don’t tell anyone, got it?”
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
Chapter 10
I left the garage, and was flying across Disney Castle when the sun was high up. Everyone was probably awake by now. I hope no one noticed that I’m not there.
Now to get to Hollow Bastion it’ll take maybe 2 hours if I warp drive through all the worlds. I was making good time when I saw some strange ships. I wouldn’t have noticed them if my lights didn’t flash over theirs. Their ships were completely black with a red sign on it. It was a strange shape with a heart at the top with a giant X through it and 3 points at the bottom.
I turned off my lights so they didn’t notice me. I was far away when I saw them so I doubt that they saw me. As I passed them I looked into their bridge to see who was driving.
I was shocked to see what it was.
It was the same creature that attacked us in the Audience Chamber, Heartless. This must be how they can travel to different worlds.
As I sailed through all the worlds I saw more and more Heartless ships flying pass me, there were more than I thought there would be. There were enough Heartless to destroy every living thing in the universe.
It was late morning when I reached Hollow Bastion, Ansem should be awake by now. I landed in their dock when I noticed this red-headed girl. She looked to be no more than 10, she looked very upset. She was talking to this older lady, most likely her mother.
I stepped out of my ship and hid behind it. Didn’t want those people to know I was listening.
“Mom, why do I have to go all by myself? I don’t want to leave you and Dad.”
A third voice answered her question, that I knew wasn’t a friendly one.
“We’ve already explained this to you, we need you to move to Destiny Islands to see how you can live with this boy. He is the next Key Bearer. It’s the only way.”
“Why does it have to be me?”
“Kairi, you’re a Princess of Heart, that’s why.”

Chapter 11
I left the garage and went to find Ansem. It’s been awhile since I’ve been here and I didn’t really know the place that well anymore. After searching for what felt like hours I found the right place and stepped inside.
Inside was just as I remembered it, now I just needed to find Ansem. I looked around his study taking it in because it was huge, but there’s wasn’t any signs of him. I waited to see if he was just doing some errands but he didn’t come back.
I went outside to ask some people if they’ve seen him.
“Have you seen-?”
“Do you know-?”
“Please, can I ask you-?”
It seems everyone wasn’t paying any attention to me as I didn’t fit in. I was short considered to everyone else but tall back at Disney Castle, of course I’m a Mouse.
I had a little chuckle to myself when someone called my name.
“Mickey?!” I turned around to see who was calling me. A person in a red cloak strolled out through the crowd and walked towards me. I couldn’t see his face.
“Mickey Mouse, is that you?”
“Uh… Yes it is, King Mickey Mouse, but most people call me Mickey Mouse. I’m sorry do I know you from somewhere?”
He laughed, it seems to me we did know each other.
“Of course we’ve met Mickey. It’s me Ansem.” He pulled of his hood and it was Ansem. He looked exactly the same from the last time I saw him.
“Ansem! I’ve been looking all over for you! Where have you been?” I hugged him, I was extremely excited and he patted me on the back.
“Oh I was taking a break from my research to see what was going on here at Hollow Bastion. Why don’t we head back to my study and talk about what’s happened since we last met.”
Chapter 12
I followed Ansem to his study, wondering what has happened to him since we last met. I really hope he can help me with my problem. We entered his study and I sat down while he sat behind his desk.
“So Ansem, what have you been doing since we last met?”
“It’s a long story my old friend, it’s not easy to explain but I’ll try my best.”
“Is it about…” I gulped before I finished my question, here goes nothing.
“Is it about Heartless by any chance?” I felt queasy asking this.
Ansem was about to tell me his story when I interrupted. He stopped short shocked about my question. I didn’t like the expression on his face, he looked terrified.
“How did you know, Mickey?” He whispered his voice all raspy and broken with shock.
“I-I don’t know how to explain it to you,” I stuttered while avoiding his gaze.
“Did someone in a black cloak tell you,” he asked urgently.
“I’m not really sure, but I think he/she was wearing a black cloak.” I was remembering what I was told about the mysterious stranger and I think someone told me he/she was wearing a black cloak. How did Ansem know?
“How do you know it was someone in a black cloak?”
“I knew it was him again. The person who told you about Heartless told me about them as well about a year ago. Once he got me interested I started to learn about them. I learned that they were all over the world and I knew how to break the world’s barriers with a Gummi type material. Once I built a ship with the same material I was able to travel all over the universe.”
“So you can do it too!” I was overjoyed that someone else knew how to travel between worlds.
“Yes I do Mickey. Now back to our story. Once I knew what was happening I decided to investigate everything about them. It turns out someone is controlling them, a Disney character like you. I’m not sure what her name is… Maleficent I believe.”
I didn’t know who she was but it was important at least to know.
“Oh Mickey this is terrible to know but Heartless can destroy our universe because where ever there’s light and hearts the Heartless will come seeking for it.”
Chapter 13 *NEW*
“What do you mean Ansem?!” I was panicking. I knew that Heatless might be able to destroy our world but I didn’t want it to be true.
“The only way Heartless can be destroyed if someone can wield the Keyblade. It’s a weapon that destroys darkness with light. Only a person with a pure heart can wield it.”
“I think I might know who the next person to hold the Keyblade is. Is he/she called the Key Bearer?”
“I’m not entirely sure but I guess it’s correct,”
“Ansem, tell me what can I do to help?” I was desperate to help, I was King and a king’s job is to make sure everyone is happy and filled with joy.
“I have a vague idea but I’m not entirely sure. You’ll have to leave your world to travel the universe to see what’s happening to them too. If they have Heartless then you can help me so I can continue my research here. Just send me reports after every world.” He finished quickly taking in a mouthful of breath. Am I going to be able to do this, if I leave Disney Castle then who will protect our world? I had to think about this.
“Thank you, Ansem. I’ll need to think about this some more. If I do decide to do this than I’ll come back here to tell you before I’ll start my journey.” I left the study with my hopes as heavy as lead. As I turned a corner I spotted a tall woman with a black and purple cloak and a staff with a green globe at the top. Could this be Maleficent? I didn’t want to me spotted so I stayed hidden behind the corner in perfect hearing shot.
“Are my creatures on their way to the different worlds?” She laughed as she said this, this must be Maleficent. No one is that evil to control creatures of the dark.
“They are Maleficent, and we made sure that the people and King Mickey at Disney Castle got a taste of what Heartless can do. It was hard but we managed to get them there, it seems Mickey is more powerful than we thought because there was a spell that kept the castle guarded.”
I saw someone in a black cloak appear from this shadowy vortex enter and to my surprise was wearing the same cloak as our “mysterious stranger”.
“Excellent, if Heartless can break the spell then our Nobodies can.” He laughed evilly.
