She has long, wavy blond hair, blue-green eyes, and usually wears her hair in a ponytail. There is something about her that people can't quite figure out, even her family think she's a bit. . . . different, even though her family does love her very much. Her best friends are Karis Young, and her sister, Ava Ford. Karis is 14 and has brunette hair and chocolate brown eyes, and she usually wears a hat and a scarf. Ava is 12 and has long blond hair and blue-green eyes, much like her sister's. Alex has two other siblings, Benjamen and Alivia. Benjamen is 16, has brunette hair and blue eyes, and they think Alivia has blond hair, but she is mostly bald, seeing that she is only 5 months old, Alivia has blue eyes. Alex's parents are Joey and Joy Ford. This is Alex's story. Chapter one Alex ran into the living room and grabbed the TV remote "Hey, Ben, I got the remote before you! So, HA!" "Nope, I got it" he smiled at her as he snatched the remote away from her. "Hey!!! Moooooom!!! Ben stole the remote again!!!" "Ben, give Alex the remote" their mother yelled as she entered the room. "Or do I have to take away your TV privileges?" "But she's going to watch iCarly! I want to watch Twilight Zone which is clearly better than iCarly!" "Twilight Zone? Won't that give you nightmares, Benji?" Alex teased. "Quiet! Both of you! Give the remote to Ava!" Joy Ford demanded. "Fine. . ." Ben sighed as he handed the remote to Ava. "Yay! I finally get the remote!!!" Ben and Alex exchanged glances as Ava sat down and turned on the TV. "Ava. . . . You're not going to watch Hannah Montana are you?" Ben asked, worried. "As a matter a fact, I am" Ava smiled. Ben groaned and left the room, "I'll go get the mail." Three minutes later Ben returned with a package and what seemed like thirty letters. "My book came!" he said happily, putting the mail on a table nearby. "Alex, you've got a letter." "Who's it from?" "I'm not sure, it doesn't have a return address." "That's strange." Alex said as she grabbed it from Ben's' hands, "Well, I'm off to my room!" she ran up the stairs to her room, carrying the letter. She looked at the letter as she sat down on her bed. Who's it from? she thought.
Chapter two Alex sat there and just stared at the letter. Should she open it? Her curiosity got the better of her and she started ripping it open. It read: Dear Alexandria, You may not know who I am, but you will soon enough. I will need you to help me when I talk to you. The reason I write to you is because you would not believe me if I hadn't. You are very confused, I know, but soon you won't be. -Marcus
Alex looked up from the letter, What in the world? she thought. She ran downstairs to her mom. "Hey, mom, look at this." she said, showing her mom the letter. She took it from Alex's hands, "Hmm, that's strange, it's blank." "I know! I- Wait, what?" Alex looked at her mother, stunned. Joy handed Alex the letter, "Sorry about that, sweetie. Maybe it was a joke or something." Alex slowly left the room, staring at the letter. "Hey, Alex! What did the letter say?" Ava asked, smiling at Alex. "Here, see for yourself" Alex handed it to Ava. "Why's it blank?" Ava questioned after looking at it for two seconds. "Umm, I'm not sure, but can I have it back?" "OK." Ava shrugged, giving the letter back to her. Alex walked to her room, staring at the piece of paper that lay in her hand. Was it a joke? Or was she the only one who could see the writing? Chapter three "Hey, Alex! How is everything?" Karis asked as she entered Wayton Middle School. "Good. How's everything with you?" Alex replied. "OK." Karis answered as she opened her locker to get her books, "Are you sure you're OK, Alex? You look nervous." Alex looked at her shoes, trying to decide whether or not she should tell Karis about the letter. She was about to when the bell rang. "We need to get to class!" Karis said as she grabbed her books, "Come on!" They got to their seats right when their science teacher, Mr. Smith, entered the classroom. "Get out your textbooks and turn to page 205." As Alex did so she glanced outside the window to see the sun disappear behind very, very dark clouds. Alex frowned. The weathermen on all the channels said that it would be sunny, in fact, they guaranteed it. That morning everyone could feel the warmth in the air, and there was not even a cloud in sight. Until now. Something didn't feel right, not at all.
Chapter four Alex watched the rain splatter onto her window. She sighed as she laid down on her bed, staring at the letter. She slowly got up and walked to her desk to get out her notebook. When she sat on her chair to write, she felt as if someone-or something- was watching her, she turned around. Nothing there. She grabbed her pencil and started writing. But again she felt as if something was watching her. She tried to ignore it, but after a minute she went to her window and looked outside. Again, nothing there. She decided to go downstairs to the kitchen, to see if she could help her mom. As she left the room, she looked out the window once more. Still, there was nothing to be seen. She frowned, then shut the door. Chapter five Alex laid in bed, staring at the ceiling. She was thinking about the letter. It seemed like that was all she could think about the last two weeks. She rolled over and eyed Ava sleeping on her bed five feet away. Alex still hadn't told anyone about the letter, she didn't know if she should or not. Suddenly, a noise from the window made her sit up. She got out of bed and ran to her window. There was someone outside waving to her to come down. What in the world? she thought. She opened the window and started to climb out. When she finally jumped onto the fluffy grass the person, who turned out to be an older gentle man in his 50's, walked over to her, "Alexandria?" he asked. "Yes?" Alex answered. He smiled, "My name is Marcus Sminton." Chapter six "I'm sorry for the long wait, I had to take care of some business." Marcus said as he sat down on a lawn chair. "What do you mean? Who are you? What business? What are you doing here?" Alex asked, still standing. Marcus smiled, "Why don't you sit, it may take a while." Ales sat on the chair beside him. "As I said before, my name is Marcus Sminton." Alex nodded as Marcus continued, "I come here from an academy of sorts. Sort of like a place for 'special' children." "Special?" Alex questioned. "Yes, let me explain a bit further. I am the head of the 'academy', let's just call it that for now, seeing as it doesn't really have a name. Anyway, I need you to come with me to this 'academy', and I need you to help me." "Help you? How?" "You'll see, Alexandria, you'll see. The 'academy' it not really an academy, it's more of a- well, I don't know what it is. It just opened, you see, it's for kids with special abilities to come and be trained how to use them properly." "What are you you saying?" Alex asked. "What I am saying, Alexandria, is that you have abilities." "Abilities?" "Yes, that is what I said. Abilities. You and only about 30 others have them. I have been trying to get to kids who have them to come with me so they can be trained. You will come with me to the academy and we will see what abilities you have. You will not be the only child there, I have already gotten four others your age to come." "What about my family?" "Well, they won't know about it, you will be able to come and go as you please, when you please." "Won't they know I'm gone?" "They won't. It's like time travel, you will come back the same second you left. You're still confused, I know, but you will get it soon enough."
Chapter seven "Now, Alexandria, at 7:35 AM tomorrow I will come for you so that I can bring you to meet the others and to find out your special abilities." Marcus said, "And try to get a good night's rest, it will be quit a long day." "OK." Alex replied, climbing up to her room. "Goodbye Alexandria." Marcus said as Alex planted her feet in her room, then he disappeared. Alex closed her window and got into bed. She laid there, thinking of what just took place. She was confused, but decided she should probably do as Marcus had told, so she turned off her light, and went to sleep. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Alex's alarm went off at 7:25 the next morning. She groaned and rolled out off bed (literally). It was when she hit the floor she remembered the night before. She sprang up, grabbed her clothes and ran for the bathroom. She finished getting ready at 7:33 and then ran to her room to wait for Marcus. At exactly 7:35 AM Marcus appeared. "You ready?" he asked. "Yes." Alex replied, getting off of the chair she was sitting on. "Grab my arm." he ordered. When Alex did so, they disappeared.
Chapter eight Alex opened her eyes and saw they were in a medium size room. The walls were white, the floor was black, and there was a large gray window next to a small gray fireplace. In front of the fireplace was a large gray couch with white and black checkered pillows. Two gray chairs sat next to the couch, and a small black coffee table lay in front of the furniture. In another side of the room was a kitchen with all black electronics. A Black fridge, black stove, black counter, black microwave, etc. She heard a door open and she turned around. Four kids around her age entered the room. Two boys, and two girls. Marcus greeted them and turned to Alex. "Let me introduce you guys. This is Matthew Phillips." he said, pointed to a boy with dark brunette hair and dark blue eyes, he smiled at Alex and waved. "This is his twin, Brooklyn Phillips." Marcus pointed to a girl with dirty blond hair and blue eyes. After Brooklyn waved to Alex, Marcus pointed to a boy with black hair and green eyes, "This is Chase Adams." After Chase waved, Marcus then pointed to a girl with long black hair and dark brown eyes, "And this is Kylie Carter." Kylie smiled and waved. "And everyone, this is Alexandria Ford, the girl I said was coming soon." Marcus said. After everyone said hello, Marcus turned to Alex. "Ready to find out what your abilities are?" "Yes." Alex said, rather hesitantly. "Then come with me." Marcus said as he lead Alex to a door.
Chapter nine Alex followed Marcus to an all white room with a black movie projector-type-thing in the center. In front of the contraption was a black chair quite like the ones you'd sit in at the dentist. "Sit there." Marcus said, motioning to the chair, then, pointing to the projector-type-thing, he said, "This thing, it has no name, will scan your brain. When it is finished we will know what your abilities are. It won't hurt a bit, I promise. Now sit back, and close your eyes, it will only take thirty seconds." Alex leaned back and closed her eyes. She felt a slight tingling sensation in her head, and through her closed eyelids she could see a red light scanning her head. "There you go, all done." Marcus said when Alex opened her eyes, "Why don't you go in the other room while you wait for the results?" he suggested. Alex left and entered the room she was in before. "Hey." Matthew said when Alex came in. "Hi." she replied nervously. She was, to be honest, quite nervous. More nervous than she'd ever been in her life. Kylie smiled at Alex, "Here, sit down." she said. When Alex sat down she looked over to Kylie, "So, what abilities do you have?" she asked. Kylie looked up and smiled, "I can control fire and ice. And I can shape shift." "Cool, what about the rest of you?" Alex questioned, looking at Matthew. He grinned, "Though this may sound really cheesy, I'm strong, and I can run fast, and last, but not least, I can read minds." Chase went next, "I can hear from more than 80 miles away, if wanted to.I know where someone is, just by thinking about them, and I can climb walls." "I can turn invisible, I can do force fields, and I can fly." Brooklyn said after Chase finished. Marcus entered the room right as Brooklyn was done talking. "I have the results, Alexandria." he smiled, " You are very special Alexandria. Are you ready?" Alex nodded. "You can breathe underwater for more than 6 hours, you can walk through walls, you can control weather, you can tell when danger is near, and, best of all, you have telekinesis."
Chapter ten When Alex got home (at exactly the time she left) she sat on her bed, thinking. How was she to know how to use her powers? She decided to try to do something with them. She focused on her Webkinz elephant. She tried to lift it up with her mind. Not two seconds after she started, it started to rise! It worked! she thought. Ava came bouncing into to room. Alex quickly dropped the elephant. Ava didn't seem to notice a flying elephant drop to the floor. "Mom wants you to come and have breakfast." Ava said, then she turned around and left. Alex's mind was racing, she had done it! She had actually done it! She then remembered what Ava had come in to say, so she grabbed her backpack, and left the room. Chapter eleven Alex got to school and opened up her locker, when she did, a note fell out. It read: Alexandria, be ready at 6:35, I will pick you up for your training then. -Marcus
"6:35." Alex whispered to herself, commiting it to memory as she put the note in her pocket. Karis came up and got her things out of her locker. "Hey Alex! How are you?" "I'm OK, you?" "Fine. Did you hear that we have a substitute teacher?" Karis asked as they headed to science. "No. . ." "Really? Well, I've heard that he's really nice." "That's good. What's his name?" "I dunno. I think it's Marcus something." Alex stopped. "Marcus Sminton?" "Yeah, that's it! You know him?" "Umm, not sure." Alex frowned, why was Marcus there? "Are you OK?" Karis asked. "I'm fine." "Oh, well, let's sit down." Karis said as she led Alex into the classroom. Chapter twelve Alex sat down and took out her textbook. She stared at Marcus, wondering why in the world he was there. Marcus smiled at her, then he turned to class "Hello class, my name is Marcus Sminton. I will be your teacher while Mr. Smith is out of town. Now turn to page 547 in your books." When Alex did so she caught Marcus's gaze and gave him a questioning look. He just smiled and began to teach the class about meteorology. After science Alex tried to talk to him, but she couldn't find him. Figures, she thought, he went back to the 'academy'. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ At exactly 6:35 Marcus appeared in Alex's room. Before she took his arm, she decided to question him about science. "Why did you teach my class today?" The was a long pause before Marcus spoke, "Alexandria, you are a special girl, and people want to hurt you because of that." "Hurt me? How?" "They would run tests on you and treat you like an animal." "Why?!?" He sighed, "You're different than they are so therefore they are scared of you." "Who are they?" "Scientists, or anyone who wants power." "Oh." Alex looked down at her shoes, "But I'm only 14." "I know, but you have abilities. Now take my arm and let's go." Alex sighed and did as she was told. She was still confused, who's after her?
Chapter thirteen Alex plopped onto her bed and groaned. It had been a lonnnng week of training. "What's wrong?" Ava asked, entering the room. "Nothing, just tired." Alex replied, sitting up. "How come?" "Just been a long week of school." That wasn't a lie, she did have a lot of tests that week. "Oh." Ava said, sitting down on her bed. "Mind if I use the computer?" she asked, looking at the laptop Alex and her shared. "Not at all." Alex said as she headed for the door. She went down to the TV room, hoping that Ben wasn't watching the Twilight Zone marathon that just happened to be on that night. She sighed in relief, he wasn't there. She sat down on the couch and flipped on to TV. Oh yay, she thought, Teletubbies. She flipped through the channels. Nothing good on, except of course Teletubbies, but she wasn't that interested in them anymore. She went back up to her room. Ava was no longer there. Alex sat down at the laptop and was about to log into Facebook when she heard a noise behind her. She turned around. She frowned. It's nothing, she thought. But, my friends, it was surely something.
Chapter fourteen Alex looked up from the book she was reading and leaned back into the recliner. She was soooo tired, but she couldn't get comfortable. It was as if something were watching her. She got up from the chair and decided to go outside, maybe fresh air would do the trick. But even when she left the house she still had that uneasy feeling she had been having for three days. She walked back inside the house to call Marcus, maybe he would assure her that everything was alright. Alex picked up the phone and dialed the number Marcus had given her at her last lesson. It seemed like forever before he picked up, when, in reality, it was only five seconds. "Hello?" Marcus said. "Hi, umm, this is Alex." "Well, hello Alexandria! What can I do for you?"` "I feel as if someones watching me." Alex said, glad that she could finally tell someone. There was a pause. "Why don't I come over there." "Uhh, OK." Alex said before she hung up. One minute later Marcus appeared before her. "So, you said you think someone's watching you?" Alex nodded. "Well, I might have an explanation for that, here, sit down." "Won't someone see you?" "No, I've made sure of it." "OK. . ." He smiled, "Well, the reason you feel someone is watching you is because someone is watching you." "Who?" "Other people who, like me, want to protect you." "Oh." She said. She looked down at her feet, she knew there was something more, something Marcus wasn't telling her. Marcus got up and smiled at her, "Do you feel better now?" "Yeah." Alex lied. "Ok, bye for now." "Bye." Alex whispered. *~*~*~*~*~*~ Marcus appeared in his study at home. A girl, probably in her early twenties, looked up, her fiery red hair falling down to the book she was reading. She smiled, "Hi daddy!" she said. "Hello sweetheart." "Did you tell her?" She asked. Marcus looked down, apparently sad about something, "Not yet, Amy." he put his jacket on the coat hanger, "Not yet."
Chapter fifteen Alex knew Marcus hadn't told her everything. She also knew that what he hadn't told her must be dangerous. She decided that she would ask her fellow "class mates" if they knew anything. She was about to head to the kitchen when she heard a loud crash from her room. She ran in to see what happened. She opened the door to see Matthew, Brooklyn, Kylie, and Chase, standing by her bed. She gave them a questioning look. Kylie pointed to Chase, "It's his fault." she said plainly. "No it isn't!" he protested. "Well, apparently you can't transport without a loud bang!!!" Chase opened his mouth in protest, but Matthew cut in quickly, "Did your family hear?" he asked quietly. "Well, who wouldn't!" Kylie whispered. Chase glared at Kylie, clearly annoyed. "I'm not sure, they probably did. . ." Alex said, she opened the door quickly and peaked out- no one there. "It's safe. Why are you here? And how can you transport?" Alex whispered. "Since you don't know how to transport, and because it's probably suppertime for you, I'd think it would be better if we met outside at around midnight and talk then." Matthew said. "Why did you come at this time then?" Alex asked. "So you wouldn't be rudely awoken by Mr. Loudbang here!" Kylie said, still mad at Chase. "Yeah, that." Matthew said, smiling, "So is that OK?" "Yeah, so midnight then?" "Yup, see you then." Matthew said, then disappeared with the others.
Chapter sixteen Alex sat on a lawn chair outside, waiting for the others. Finally, after what seemed like hours -when in reality it was only two minutes- they appeared. Alex rose from her seat, "So, what is it?" she asked quietly, trying not wake anyone in the house. "Well, as you have most likely noticed, Marcus is hiding something from us." Matthew replied solemnly. Alex nodded, "Go on. . ." Matthew glanced at the others, "We think we know what it might be.” “OK. . .” “We think someone is after us.” Alex‘s eyebrows creased, “Who?” “We don’t know. But if in fact it’s true, and Marcus is hiding it from us, they’re most likely very dangerous.” Alex frowned, “What are we going to do about it?” “I don’t know.” Matthew admitted, “But we need to confront Marcus about it.” “Oh.” It went quiet for a moment, everyone was thinking about how they would talk to Marcus about it the next day at class. Suddenly there was a rustle in the bushes, and everyone turned quickly to the direction of the sound. Matthew crept silently up to the bushes, and grabbed a flashlight that just happened to be in his pocket. He turned it on and flashed it towards the bushes. . .
Chapter seventeen A figure walked out from the brush. Alex gasped, “Ava?! What are you doing out here?” Ava glared at Alex, “I could ask you the same thing.” she looked around at the group, “Who are they?” she asked. “They’re nobody, go back to bed.” Alex replied, trying to sound as normal as possible. “No.” Ava said. “Ava, please.” “No!” “Ava!!!” “I’m not going! Now tell me who they are and why the heck you’re out here in the middle of the night!” “Ava, I’ll explain later!” “NOW!” Ava yelled. “I can’t!” Alex cried, “Now go to bed, please!” Ava shook her head, “I’m. Not. Going.” Alex curled her fists in anger, and, as she did so, the wind started swirling around violently. “Ava, now.” She said, glaring at Ava, “Please.” Rain started pouring down heavily. Ava stood where she was, not showing any signs of succumbing to Alex‘s pleading. Alex was about to move towards Ava when a strange sensation came over her. Alex turned to Kylie “Move, now.” she said. Kylie did as told, and right after she moved, lightning struck the ground excactly were she had been standing.
Chapter eighteen Ava gasped, “I thought you could only-” she began, but clasped her hand over her mouth as if she had said too much. “I could only what?” Alex inquired. “N-nothing. N-never mind.” Ava stammered. “Ava, what were you going to say?” “Nothing!” “If you tell me what you were going to say, I’ll answer your questions.” Alex said, hoping that what Ava was going to say was as big as the answers she was going to give. Ava sighed, “Fine. Do you promise you’ll answer my questions?” Alex nodded, “Yeah. Now tell me.” Ava looked at her feet, and it was a few moments before she spoke “Okay, well…” She took in a big breath before finishing “I can kind of read minds.” Alex’s eyes grew wide and she looked at her sister in confusion, “You can what?” “Read minds.” Ava muttered. “This is really big! Why didn’t you tell me this before!?” Alex said, exasperated. “I don’t know. Maybe I just thought it’d be weird to come up to you and say ‘Hey! Nice shirt! Oh, and by the way, I can read minds, so I know your telekinetic.’” Alex shook her head in disbelief, “Then, if you can read minds, why did you ask me who these kids were, and why I was out here!?” “Because someone is blocking me! Someone is making it impossible to read these kids’ minds!”
