Hello, this is my small guide on how to make some pretty simple, but good looking graphics on GIMP!

Some Info on GIMP;
GIMP is a image manipulation program. that means you can change the way things look on one image, or you can totally make your own. The program part means that you have to download it, you can't use it any where else. It is totally free, no cost, no money. GIMP is quite complex and complicated, i only suggest downloading it if you know what you are doing and are familiar with graphics. If you would like some more information on GIMP, please visit

Guide 1: Transparency.

Step 1: Open up GIMP and create a new layer



You will get something like that

Step 2: Then go to Layer>>Delete Layer.
its will looks like this:


Step 3: Then go Layer>>New Layer>>Transparent.


Step 4: You can make text, or use brushes to paint on top of the transparent background. I made text.





Step 5: Saving. Once you are satisfied with what you have done, you get to save your picture!
Got to File>>Save As and pick out a file name.





You NEED to save it as a.PNG If you don't it will not show up transparent!!!

Step 6: go to TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting and upload your picture there. Copy the code that says IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards, that look something like this; [IMG] htp://i95.tinypic.com/2itkcon.jpm [/IMG]

Step 7: Paste your picture wherever you want and there you go!

Guide 2: Scaling & Cropping

Step 1: Open up a page in gimp about 100x100 pixels.

Step 2: open a new tab Go to google & find a picture of a celebrity, then right click and select copy image.

Step 3: go back to gimp and paste the image

Step 4: Your image will most likely be too big, so we will need to resize it. Click on the button that that looks like a square with an arrow pointing to the middle. Click on your picture.

Step 5: Click and drag a corner up to make your image smaller.
continue until you are satisfied with the size.
Step 6: Once you are done, you can move the face around by click on your picture & dragging.


Once you are done that, you can save it, OR add text! The following steps are OPTIONAL!

Step 7: Pick a font, and change the size, and the colour to get it just right.

Step 8: Go to file>>save as and this pops up.

you can save it as a .jpg OR a .png because it doesn't matter.

Step 9:go to TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting and upload your picture there. Copy the code that says IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards, that look something like this; [IMG] htp://i95.tinypic.com/2itkcon.jpm [/IMG]

Guide 3: Rainbow Text

Step 1: Open a page 300 x 150 for a signature

Step 2: Once it loads, select the gradient/fade tool. pick a gradient/fade you like. i picked rainbow.

Step 3: When you have the gradient/fade you want, start at 1 end, and drag across to the next.
(the purple line is my dragging from side to side)
It will look like this when you are done, if you did it right.

Step 4: Go to Layer>>New Layer>>Foreground colour

If you did it correctly, it should look like this

Step 5: Take the eraser tool, and erase letters in to your picture.

Step 6: go to File>>Save as and type it in as what you want to save it as
