Have you ever read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry? I had to read it for English at the beginning of this year. I was surprised. I thought that it was one of the most thought-provoking books I have ever read. It even won the Newberry Medal in 1994 (this is the most prestigious award in literature).
I recommend this book to anyone older than 10. The content might go over the heads of kids younger than 11.

OMG, yes, and I loved it!  You're right, it is a bit complex for younger kids, but I read it and I thought it was amazing. Very deep, and a whole lot of insight. I am glad you liked it too!

Yes, I've read it, unfortunately. I didn't like it very much. It wasn't that great if you ask me.

It is very interesting because I just saw that book at Barnes & Nobles today. They were displayed at the shelf for "recommended reading for the 5th graders." I was looking for some Christmas gifts for someone around that age and I almost bought it, but decided not to since I did not know anything about the book nor the author. Now that a lot of you guys are saying that it is a great book, I think I will go back there and pick up a copy tomorrow. | | | |
