Default The 1st annual game of the year 2009! The poll is closed come here to see which game is the best!

Hey everyone! Welcome to the 1st annual game of the year. You will have until january 30th to vote and on january 31st I will announce the winner! Here are the nominees:

Nominees for best wii game:

1. New super mario brothers wii
the game follows the traditional storyline of Princess Peach getting kidnapped by Bowser. When Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad are celebrating Princess Peach's birthday in her castle, a large cake rolls in. Immediately Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings pop out and throw the cake on top of Peach, trapping her. The cake is loaded onto Bowser's airship and takes off, with the Mario brothers and the Toads giving chase. The Toads in the castle then grant them access to the Propeller and Penguin Suits via a cannon. The player then goes through the different levels and worlds, facing the Koopalings, Bowser Jr., Kamek and finally, Bowser himself, in order to save Peach

2. The beatles rock band
The Beatles: Rock Band is a music video game developed by Harmonix Music Systems, published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts. It is the third major console release in the Rock Band music video game series and, like other games in the series, it allows players to simulate the playing of rock music by using controllers shaped like musical instruments. The game's soundtrack consists of 45 songs by popular British rock group The Beatles and features virtual depictions of the band members performing the songs. Additional songs and albums by The Beatles were made available for the game as downloadable content.
The game was released internationally on 9 September 2009, coinciding with the release of new, remastered compact disc versions of The Beatles albums. It incorporates many of the gameplay features of the Rock Band series; however, it is not an expansion pack for the Rock Band series, and content for it and other Rock Band titles is not cross-compatible. Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos described the game as "... a new, full game title production built from the ground up."[1] Gameplay mechanics differ slightly from previous Rock Band games, including the addition of a three-part vocal harmony system.
The game was developed with the blessing and critical input of Apple Corps, including former Beatles members Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. George Harrison's son Dhani helped to bridge discussion between Harmonix and Apple Corps, while Giles Martin, son of The Beatles' music producer George Martin, ensured high-quality versions of The Beatles' songs would be available.
The Beatles: Rock Band was well-received by the press, both as a genuine means of experiencing the music and history of The Beatles, and as a standalone music video game. Although the game's sales were considered respectable, with more than half a million units sold during its first month of release in the United States, analysts had projected larger sales volumes, and attributed the lower sales to waning interest in the rhythm game genre and the video game industry recovery from the late-2000s recession.

3. Wii sports resort
Wii Sports Resort is a collection of sports games for the Wii video game console and is the sequel to Wii Sports. Wii Sports Resort was released in Japan on June 25, 2009, and in Australia, Europe and North America in July 2009. The game requires the use of a Wii MotionPlus, which comes bundled with the game. Additional Wii MotionPlus units are also sold separately. A special limited-edition bundle was also released in Europe in November 2009 featuring the game packaged with a black Wii console and a Wii MotionPlus.

4. Punch Out!!
Punch-Out!! is a boxing video game for the Wii. It is the latest game in the Punch-Out!! series. Game designer Shigeru Miyamoto served as the game's producer. It was first revealed at Nintendo's conference on October 2, 2008. It was released exclusively at the Nintendo World Store in New York City on May 16, 2009, two days before its official North American release.

Nominees for Best DS game:

1. Mario and Luigi Bowsers inside story
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, released in Japan as Mario & Luigi RPG 3. is a role-playing video game released for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console in Japan on February 11, 2009, North America on September 14, 2009 and in Europe on October 9, 2009. It is the third game in the Mario & Luigi series, following Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, and was first revealed at Nintendo's press conference at October 2, 2008. As a part of the Mario & Luigi series, the game includes new features such as mini-games and the ability to play as Bowser and use his own unique battle system, which allows players to hold the DS sideways and use the touchscreen and microphone to perform special moves. More details about the game were revealed at E3 2009, including the English title and North American and European release of Autumn 2009. The game was critically acclaimed, and won three awards from online reviewers.

2. Scribblenauts
Scribblenauts is an emergent puzzle action video game developed by 5th Cell for the Nintendo DS published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was released September 15, 2009 in North America, September 30, 2009 in Australia, and October 9, 2009 in Europe. It is the third Nintendo DS video game made by 5th Cell, the first two being Drawn to Life and Lock's Quest. The objective of Scribblenauts, as implied by its catchphrase "Write Anything, Solve Everything", is to complete puzzles to collect "Starites", helped by the player's ability to summon any object (from a database of tens of thousands) by writing its name on the touchscreen. The game is considered by its developers to help promote emergent gameplay by challenging the player to solve its puzzles within certain limitations or through multiple solutions.
Jeremiah Slaczka, creator of Scribblenauts, envisioned the game as a combination of solving life situation puzzles alongside Mad Libs. His vision was brought to realization through the "Objectnaut" engine created by 5th Cell's technical director, Marius Fahlbusch. Objectnaut allowed for a data driven approach, and a significant portion of the development time was spent researching nouns and their properties, and categorizing them into the Objectnaut database. This, along with the simple art designs of 5th Cell's Edison Yan, allowed for the team to easily add new words to the database without expending much effort to program new behavior.
Scribblenauts was first shown in a playable form at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, and became a sleeper hit, winning several "Best of Show" awards, being the first portable console game to win such praise. Reviewers believed that 5th Cell delivered on their promise to allow nearly any possible object to be created for use in Scribblenauts, but also lamented that the choice of controls in the game hampered their full enjoyment of the title.

3. Pokemon platinum
Pokémon Platinum is a director's cut version of Diamond and Pearl in the same vein as Pokémon Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. It was released for the Nintendo DS in Japan on September 13, 2008, in North America on March 22, 2009, and in Australia and Europe on May 14, 2009 and May 22, 2009 respectively.
The game features Giratina as its mascot and introduces its Origin Forme, a new form of the Pokémon as seen in the movie Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior. The game's storyline involves the awakening of Giratina, after which the Pokémon opens a portal to the "Distortion World", an alternate dimension in which normal physical laws do not apply. Other added features include the Battle Frontier (first introduced in Pokémon Emerald), which in Platinum adds three new facilities: the Wi-Fi Plaza; an arcade area, in which the player can play minigames with other people over the Wi-Fi connection; and the Vs. Recorder which allows players to save and replay videos of battles between friends. Shaymin, which was distributed in Japan as part of admittance to the aforementioned film and in America through a promotion via Toys "R" Us, also gained a new form in Platinum, the Sky Forme. When traded to Diamond or Pearl from Platinum, Shaymin will transform from its Sky Forme back to its regular form, the Land Forme.[103] With the use of a new item in Platinum, the Gracidea Flower (which can be unlocked after obtaining the event Shaymin), Shaymin can be changed between its two forms. When the special Regigigas that is given out with a pre-order ticket for Giratina to Sora no Hanataba: Shaymin is traded from Diamond or Pearl to Platinum, it activates an event that makes Regirock, Regice, and Registeel available to catch in Platinum. Like Shaymin, Regigigas was released in America via Toys "R" Us. Additionally, five exclusive forms of Rotom were introduced, all of which are can be unlocked with a Secret Key available for download via Platinum's Mystery Gift function.
Pokémon Platinum sold 1 million copies in its first two days on the Japanese market.[108] By December 2008, Platinum had sold nearly 2.2 million units, making it Japan's best-selling DS game and second-best-selling game overall for 2008. On March 21, 2009, the day before the North American release of Platinum, Nintendo held a launch celebration at Nintendo World Store in New York City. In just nine days, the game sold 805,000 units in the U.S., the second-highest game sales for the month. In a hands-on preview of Platinum, Kat Bailey of 1UP.com praised the game's many new features as well as its improvements in interface and graphics: "Pokémon fans probably won't be found wanting with Platinum. Even after you finish up the main quest, stop messing around with the Battle Recorder, and clear out the Battle Frontier, you've still got side quests and contests to keep you busy. And once you venture back down the Pokémon rabbit hole, you won't be coming up again for a while."

4. Kingdom hearts 358/2 days
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the Nintendo DS with assistance from h.a.n.d. It is a new installment in the best-selling Kingdom Hearts series. The story is an interquel taking place between the second game (for the "Game Boy Advance and Playstation 2"), Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. The game centers on the daily life of the main character Roxas, exploring the time from his creation during the first game, Kingdom Hearts, and leading directly into Kingdom Hearts II. It features 3D graphics, and single and multiplayer modes of play. The game was announced at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show to be released in Japan; a North American release was later confirmed as well as a European Autumn 2009 release. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days had a special edition of the Nintendo DSi when it launched in Japan. The game launched in Japan on May 30, 2009. The game's official North American release was announced at E3 2009 to be September 29, 2009.
The game featured Wayne Allwine's final performance as Mickey Mouse (and his last acting role) before his passing; the game is dedicated in his memory.

For DS, Scribblenauts for sure!

Hmm, out of Wii, the Beatles aren't a good band, Wii Sports Resort doesn't look fun, and Punch-Out! is great but I don't have it, so:

For Wii, New Super Mario Bros Wii!
