I'm a Gift Guru Join Date: Jun 2009 Posts: 998 | What Have You Sacrificed In Order To Buy WW Accessories? I have, in the period of four days, become addicted to WW accessories, especially the trading cards. I have huge buyers remorse (not so much), but am wondering what I can do without, to justify my recent online and in-store purchases, which include 3 boxes of trading cards, 6 kinz clips, 2 figures for my new account, one charm (also for new account), and four pets (one retired, one fish for underwater stuff, one 50% off lil'kinz, and one 50% off webkinz, both "for use in a year when my account is up." (yeah, right. ) Just curious for those with the glazed crazed looks in your eyes, just how far have you gone to feed your addiction?? What have you "gone without" to get your fix? Have you kept secrets, told lies, minimized screens in a hurry, paid cash, sold children, etc?? Who has traveled the greatest distance to feed their need. Here is the place to confess, to unleash the demons, to become one with the demon within, or just understand and giggle a little!! Let it all out... There, there...it's going to be ok...
Ok, I'll start...I canceled a magazine subscription that I have had for YEARS the other day to justify some of my purchases.
I also minimized my screen when my sister and mother visited this last weekend so they wouldn't see my WW addiction, although I later fessed up to my sister, who promptly bought a virtual pet to start an account, and two pets from amazon.com for her and her daughter.

After receiving a box of trading cards, I rip open all of the packs and sort trading cards in one pile, the code cards in a second pile. I take the trading cards and shove them back into the boxes they came in. I usually buy 2 boxes, that's 72 pks in all, at a time, through the internet. I then take the cards with all of the codes and make them last at least a week...a couple of codes here a couple of codes there, taking my time accumilating all of those goodies onto my account. I can't hide my addiction, but the rules here in my household are, I have to pay for everything out of my own pocket, using my allowance. So, needless to say...I can't buy the boxes of trading cards too often...and I'm constantly hoarding any money that comes my way. Pretty soon I'll be forced to open a lemonade stand! | | | 07-03-2009, 07:35 AM | #3 | i am chatty Gifted Join Date: Sep 2007 Posts: 40,204 | Re: What Have You Sacrificed In Order To Buy WW Accessories? LOLAKITTY..... well here i am....
when i am at work all i can do with my very LIMITED internet access is get to wi (shhh don't tell the boss).... but i have to minimize that screen when anyone is around.....
i hold my plastic bottles for redemption and i have a little bank that i drop my spare change in, and when both are totally overflowing, i cash in the bottles and the change and run next door to hallmark and buy SOMETHING.... usually a new webbie or trading cards.
i have fully looked at my budget and i see how far i can push it...... even if it means going without dinner for one night..... i make sure the bills are paid, of course, but a major buffer is something i never really have. | | | 07-03-2009, 11:26 AM | #5 | HOOPIE!! That is a GREAT idea!! I have little piles of spare change in desk drawers, my car cupholder, etc. I'm so going to make a place for it and then change it in when it gets full, use it toward a WW purchase. I am feeling better already! Butterflies,
Wow, that gives a whole new meaning to "make a run for the border." Did you adopt all of your cows? If so, on the same account? How funny!
I haven't travelled any distances yet, but usually resort to ebay when I need a fix. Problem is, then I have to wait for the items to arrive, and I am going bonkers already waiting for many items that I have ordered, specifically the trading cards.
I haven't found the Kinz Clips in any store yet, so I have purchased them on ebay. Lots of free shipping offers there! Good luck on your quest! I am a very fortunate woman. I spent a gazillion years in school learning a pretty recession proof profession that pays well. My husband says that until peace breaks out across the word he will always have a job that pays well. No kids of the human variety (though the hoof and paw ones are the love of my life) and my house is paid off. I have no debt. So webkinz are my one hobby. I don't buy clothes, makeup, go to the hair salon, etc. I don't spend money on other stuff. I rarely travel because I have too many critters at home and ever since I was on a plane that caught on fire and had to do an emergency landing, I don't fly anyways!
It's the long way of saying, it is a luxury I can afford!
I think my husband is happy I found a hobby because his hobby is aerobatic flying-ie being a stunt pilot. I laugh and say I spend as much money on my webkinz stuff in a whole year as he can spend in a week! Of course, I always see us as this study in contrasts. He is out doing crazy stuff flying and I am at home on the computer getting as excitid about trading gems with Doug!
On the other hand, he thinks I have a dangerous job and am much more likely to die at work than he is with his hobby, and I do have a very "exciting" job, but don't see it as dangerous. It's all what you get used to I suppose! Last edited by COWS4YOU; 07-06-2009 at 11:07 AM.. Reason: changed word | | | 07-03-2009, 04:09 PM | #7 | HOOPIE!! Thanks for posting! What a great couple you two sound to be. Although the fear of flying due to danger and the love of flying due to danger combo could cause glitches, sounds like you two make it work, and compliment each other well. You are lucky that he supports your "habit."
Without revealing too much, might I get a few hints about your dangerous job? Just curious, as I am thinking about a new career. I'm in a field that will never be hurt from recessions as well, but it doesn't work well with my family, and I'm a little burned out, it can be exciting though, and stressful. Posters:
As I was opening my first box of trading cards (yay!-series 2--got two mystery pets!!), I had a LOT of trash, and I wondered another question to ask posters...has anyone ever hidden opened packaging or other WW evidence (trash) so that it wouldn't be seen? | | | 07-03-2009, 04:29 PM | #8 | Webkinz :) Join Date: Apr 2008 Posts: 1,413 | Re: What Have You Sacrificed In Order To Buy WW Accessories? I am a random card buyer, and tend to hide my stash under my husband's place mat. He really doesn't give a hoot....but I am a little embarrassed at how far I will go to obtain a pair of Kimmy's Overall's!! (I just needed them for my pets who are artists).Yep, AND have personally taken out the trash myself so it doesn't crinkle so much!
I too, have a recession proof job - if I walked out today, I could have a job in 5 minutes. It is hard, but I am lucky too...and the bonus is I generally like doing it, because I make a difference in people's lives. So I count my blessings, and handle any stress by buying furry friends (and cards, clips, figurines, and charms - an an occ. estore item). | | | 07-03-2009, 06:51 PM | #10 | (V)!_!(V) crab Webkinz :) Join Date: Dec 2008 Posts: 12,697 | Re: What Have You Sacrificed In Order To Buy WW Accessories? Um? Money? That's really the only thing that I've given up to get Trading Cards and Figurines and Kinzstyle. I'm not obsessed with accessories. I'm pretty content with a few packs of trading cards, a figurine, and a Kinzstyle outfit. I guess that some people will really go to great lengths for their Webkinz. I applaude that. It shows love and compassion! | | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | | | Thread Tools | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off
