There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. In 1939, The Wizard of Oz premiered in theaters. Did you know that in L. Frank Baum’s Oz books, Dorothy’s magical slippers were silver, not ruby! The color was changed in the move version to better utilize color film, which was new at the the time.

Most of us pretty much know this movie and have seen it so I thought it would be fun to share some interesting facts:

*Judy Garland at the age of 16 played a 12yr old girl

*After only a ew weeks of production Buddy Ebsen(Tin Man) became very ill from his "aluminum dust" make-up & was replaced by Jack Haley.

*Shirley Temple was wanted for Dorothy, but Mervyn LeRoy did not believe she had the singing talent & 20th Century Fox would not loan her to MGM.

*If you watch closely you will see that the driver tries hard to restrain the horse from trying to lick itself. The filmmakers used a white horse and sponged it down with different colors of Jello. They had a hard time keeping the horse from trying to lick it off. The Horse of a Different Color changes 6 colors: Green, blue, orange, red, yellow, and violet.

Some funny bloopers are:
*When attempting to escape the Witch's Castle Dorothy & the Tin Man switch places after the Witch's door slams shut

*Dorothy's hair changes length throughout the film.

*After the Witch leaves Munchkinland, Glinda knocks her wand into her crown.

*The sewer lid in which one of the Munchkins emerges from during "Come Out, Come Out" does not appear in any other scenes

*After slapping the Lion, you can see Judy use Terri(Toto) to cover her face so you couldn't see her giggling

*The Tin Man smashes a flowerpot to make a crown for the cowardly Lion, but when the crown is dropped it does not break
