Because on an Open Mike topic someone wrote, "Do you live in ____________?" And a person answered, "No I live in ______." ~oceangirl300 | | | | 06-20-2007, 04:20 PM | #42 | FluffyInAlabama Join Date: Apr 2007 Posts: 18,174 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** Actually, the rule about children posting personal information isn't one that the moderators came up with. It's federal law. The law is called COPPA, Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. So please, no ages, grades, cities, etc. It just makes more work for us. | | | 06-20-2007, 04:22 PM | #43 | koalabear510 Gift Guru Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 801 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** Thanks, I probably wouldn't have anyway but now I know for sure! | | | 06-20-2007, 04:25 PM | #44 | TCPV7 Gift Guru Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 1,325 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** i think that it is a good idea not to tell any info about yourself anywhere on the internet.... there are bad people out there | | | 06-21-2007, 12:10 AM | #45 | umustpmme4it Gifted Join Date: Apr 2007 Posts: 4,142 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** Originally Posted by fluffyinalabama Actually, the rule about children posting personal information isn't one that the moderators came up with. Thank you for posting the rules, but can't we just say our country, maybe province or state? I mean, we can say it in our profiles... but I'd never say "my name is ____ and I live in ____ and here's my address ____"...
Of course I don't want to argue with a mod (not that I'd want to argue with anybody) but nobody can identify us by our countries, can they? | | | 06-24-2007, 04:33 PM | #46 | Webkinz :) Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 67 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** Originally Posted by fluffums Why can't we put the month we were born in? You let adults (if they say they're adults, at least) put the month they were born in, why not people who aren't adults? It's no safer for them than it is for us. There were thousands and thousands of people born in each month.

Anyone can access this if you know how to. The police (not the band LOL!!) use this to track people. This is why it is VERY important NOT to post any personal info.

They can identify you if you say what country, state/province, and street or town/city you live in. That is why it is not safe. Why can we put information about our age or birthday in our My WI profiles? Isn't that personal information too? | | | | 06-25-2007, 01:40 PM | #49 | umustpmme4it Gifted Join Date: Apr 2007 Posts: 4,142 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** Well I was wondering about that....
But I was talking about just putting your country, nothing further. | | | 06-25-2007, 01:54 PM | #50 | Gifted Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 134 | Re: A really big no-no **PLEASE NO PERSONAL INFORMATION** Someone Help!
