Philip's funeral was held today and
it was as beautiful as a funeral can be.

So many people have told us Philip was a hero, a warrier and a soldier -- but to us Philip was a son, a grandson, and my nephew. He was one of the greatest little boys who ever lived. Philip had no interest in being a hero, he only wanted to be a normal little boy.

Despite the hardships Philip faced, he faced them head on and never took no for an answer. He had strength and determination that many of us strive to have. He never knew what it meant to be depressed or to give up. He faced every day with a smile, and nothing was more important to him than family. He was happiest when he was with his mom and dad, granddad and nana all together. When Philip was in New York, he always wanted Granddad and Nana to come and visit, and once he packed his little suitcase with snacks and toys and was ready to head off to the airport on his own. While in New York, he was voted prom king twice and earned a Ninja Power certificate from the Kids Kicking Cancer program.

Philip loved his Nana so much and always wanted to speak to her on the phone, any time I called, he enthusiastically enquired if it was Nana and when he found out it wasn't, he had no interest in talking to anyone else. I remember calling once and he answered and said Hi Nana, and when I said it was Auntie Linda, he promptly dropped the phone and said mommy its for you.

Philip loved to have parties, sometimes more than once a day, a party to Philip was his family gathering around the table and eating a variety of sometimes mismatched food from dora plates. Despite the hardships he faced, life was a celebration for Philip. No matter how sick he was, he always wanted a party. He loved flowers, balloons and birthday banners, these were the simple things that would make him happy. It wasnt unusual to find a bowl of teddy grahams on the table alongside roast chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy, one of Philips favorite foods. His more recent favorite food was pancakes, he could never have enough. Gillian and Richard should be expert pancake chefs by now, they definitely are expert parents and the best parents any child could ever hope for. He also loved going to cracker barrel, where he said they made the best eggs and hash browns ever and he loved to explore their country store. Another thing that made him happy was playing games on the wii with granddad. You never had to let Philip win, he had a knack for games. Philip loved spending time watching his favorite cartoons, playing on the wii, and playing on Webkinz. He loved his many Webkinz and always had fun opening mail, playing bingo, and sending surprises to his friends. He loved adopting new pets and decorating their rooms in his own special style.

Philip also loved surprises. He treasured little things, especially when they were a surprise for him. Philip never wanted anything except a surprise. That surprise could be a page of stickers, a single flower, a sea shell, a new webkinz, or pretty much anything as long as it was a surprise. Sometimes if you asked Philip what he would like, he would be very specific, and say he would like 2 surprises. He loved getting mail, and thought any package that came was a surprise for him. but he loved being sneaky and giving surprises as well. We could all use more little surprises in our lives.

Philip touched so many people in his short life, he taught us many lessons on the importance of enjoying the little things, and spending time with the people you love. Philip, we miss you, and you will be in our hearts for ever.

A lot of people ask why pancakes are often associated with Philip here on WI. Pancakes were one of Philips food and he asked for them all the time.

I just got the notice that there was an update and went to sign Philips guestbook.. Philip continues to amaze me with the way he demands his right to live! As if there were no doubt that he should be able to continue on with life.. no matter what.. His mom and dad have done an amazing job with one amazing little boy!

Thanks for the updates that you are taking the time to post. I think of Philip every day, and wonder how he is doing, so this is much appreciated. Is there any particular WW room he is working on now?

Hi Lizzy... he works on completely random rooms lol... he just loves like complete nonsense stuff that looks relaly sily together, all of his rooms pretty much are from the w shop... i hear theblue jay is a HUGE hit

LegalCat, Philip and his family have been in my prayers for awhile now. He is a truely inspiring little man. A stranger. A 5 year old stranger who upon reading his stories, has caused THIS 35 year old woman to slow down in life, enjoy more, love more, and literally stop and smell the roses.

His story has touched my heart in a unique way. I lost one of my brothers to brain cancer when he was 29. I send up many prayers a day for your little nephew. I know God hears them.

I would love to send Philip a few Webkinz to hopefully somehow brighten his day but don't want to send him one he already has. Do you know which ones he'd love to have? Or which ones he already has so I don't send one that's a duplicate?
