John Furlong said Friday that the Closing Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games will "poke a bit of fun at ourselves". He added, "it will be Canada's way of saying goodbye and thank you. You will probably come away from the ceremonies knowing a bit more about us than you did if you're not from Canada".

At a press conference in Vancouver , Sochi 2014 President Dmitry Cherneshenko revealed some details of what he calls an exciting and interactive handover ceremony that will take place during and eight minute segment of the Vancouver 2010 Closing Ceremonies Sunday.
An estimated 150 performers including sports heroes, Russian children and Russian superstars from Opera, ballet and music will be part of the segment – as well as an unspecified “Russian Supermodel”, Cherneshenko announced. These performers will be joined by “Zorbs” – giant spheres maneuvered by people inside that will play a key role.
The Zorbs are intended to reflect the “Sochi universe” and individual universes of all who attend the Olympic Games coming together as one. At the ceremony, youth and sporting legends will come together symbolically.
The handover will also serve as a final piece of the Sochi 2014 brand launch that was initiated last year and includes a “digital emblem”; the words sochi.ru 2014 – indicating a Web site to be used to connect with youth of the world with the “ru” indicating that these are Russia’s first Olympic Winter Games.

Because of the devastating earthquake that hit Chile early Saturday morning, athletes and coaches from Chile will not be attending the Closing Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. The massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake has left Chile with widespread destruction and I’m sure most people would agree that their decision is completely understandable, given the circumstances. According to The Washington Post, on Saturday morning Luis Alberto Santa Cruz, the team spokesman, said that the athletes and coaches just want to get home as soon as they can.
