Look at the first ( ) on the left. You need to find the largest number that both 15 and 12 can be divided by (so, 3). Next, you look at the exponents, all you do for them is subtract the smallest from the largest. (3-2=1) For your answer you take the 3^2 that you took out and stick it in front of the parenthese (3^2 does not go in parenthese).
And also here's an explanation from me...
(15y^3 + 12y^2)
So you have 15 and 12. Divide them both by 3.
Then you have y^3 and y^2, and you will divide both by y^2.
You have now taken out 3 and y^2, and after dividing them, you're left with (5y+4). Since you divided the terms by 3y^2, put it on the outside of the parentheses to show the multiplication.
3y^2 times (5y+4) equals your original (15y^3 + 12y^2).
A person has asked this question and it was figured for her but she still does not understand the factoring involved in factoring completely. Is there anyone that can clarify this any better than the above right answer so she can understand it? She has posted it as ASAP now. Thanks.
The other problem is:
x^4 - 6x^3 + 6x - 36 answer (x^3 + 6)(x - 6) | | | 05-01-2010, 06:55 PM | #130 | Call me cody Webkinz :) Join Date: Jul 2009 Posts: 5,338 | Re: The '09-'10 Tutoring Thread COWs i can help out in history | | | | | | Tags | all hail mr. burrito, any subject, ask webkinzluvr1235!, bm helps math and reading, cheezeiful!, code wowewe, cookiecrumbles!, go smart people!, i'm a tutor!, ill help you, marielofredwall was here, me's a tutor, megan.masterof french ^-^, murphy20071 helps reading, ottercute has tutor :(, school help, thanks cows, thanks!, tutor, tutoring, tutoring thread, we're here to help!, wi is on your side :), wow speaks german | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | | | Thread Tools | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off
