Inside only Shame too, because it sure would look GREAT in an outside room....& its a shame that it actually serves the puropse of just being like a rug-the pets CANT "use it"..it just takes up space on the floor!
They ARE pretty though

Actually, I correct myself..its not like a rug, because the pets CAN'T walk on it!

Yep, like she said, it is indoor only, and unlike a rug, your pets cannot walk on it. But -- also unlike a rug -- it is animated. The surface of the water shimmers slightly but noticeably. It's very pretty and quite elegant.

I bought two (two accounts) last time they were available. And I was quite disappointed to find that they could only go indoors. I can't test this myself yet, but I know that most indoor furniture can be placed in underwater rooms. I am planning on getting extra Ancient rares to create an underwater Classical ruin. (My daughter thinks I'm crazy for this, but my son had already thought of something similar himself before I ever mentioned the idea to him. His underwater ruin is going to have a very different aesthetic than mine, though.)

I've been thinking about how to create a peristyle garden ringed with Ionic columns. I'm pretty sure that those columns are indoor only, so I will have to buy a large room and make it look like a courtyard inside a house, with the columns encircling it. I guess I'll have to use all potted plants and trees and find out which of the fountains can be placed indoors. I don't plan to use an Ancient Wading Pool as the centerpiece of the peristyle garden because, unfortunately, I know far too much about the structure and organization of an Ancient Roman house to put an impluvium (aka Ancient Wading Pool) in the peristyle. They were in the center of the atrium (sort of like the foyer of a Roman house) directly beneath an open section in the roof and were used to catch and hold rainwater. (I strongly suspect that they were also useful for accidentally drowning infants and toddlers I can't imagine how closely you would have had to have watched them when they were allowed in the atrium. Glad that's one thing I don't have to worry about. My toddler gives me enough other worries.)

In any case, I have always thought how that pool would make a beautiful centerpiece for a garden even if I am too uptight to do it myself. I think that the solution, as with the peristyle garden I want to build eventually, is to buy a large room and turn it into a garden that somehow doesn't look like it is located indoors.

There are ways of creating illusions like this. One of the winners in the latest WW room design contest, and a member of WI, made a room that looked like it had an in-ground swimming pool in the center of it with beach and palm trees in the background. It was amazingly clever.

Where in the forums would be the proper place to launch a thread about how to create a great garden that doesn't look like it is indoors?

Actually, I don't know that pfeagans10 is a she. Sorry if you aren't. (Actually, I'm not at all sorry if you aren't a she -- only sorry that I automatically assumed that you were.)

Oh you are kidding me! I wasn't fast enough, so it duplicated the entire post that was too long to begin with and just added that little comment added to the end! So now I have created twice the mess and confusion. That might be the last time I ever use the "fast reply" button. Blech. I have got to learn the ins and outs of using this board.

Or maybe it didn't and I was just imagining things. Maybe I should go clean the house, since I am obviously not competent to post.

A picture of what, the Ancient Wading Pool?

If my husband will refresh my memory on how to take a screenshot and teach me how to crop it properly and teach me how to post it on here, then I'll have one for you. (But you probably ought to promise not to laugh too hard at the room that it is in. Rana's bedroom is...ah...a bit eclectic. It's the only indoor room in the house, the one that came with the pet. The other eight rooms I have added so far are production gardens. That's how I'm affording all the rares.)

I'm glad you like the posts. They have an embarrassing tendency to be overly long. Every time.

I'll see about getting the screenshot. It's a great chance for me to learn how.

We meet AGAIN rodentmom I agree w/cac, I DO love your books..oops, I mean posts too!
&, yes, you assumed correctly, I AM a she..-that was a great guess!!
Also..there really is no better way to figure this site out, than to just jump right on in & learn from those mistakes I have had more than my share. Tell ya what-that edit button comes in mighty handy for the BIG boo-boo's. Just be sure to include a reason for the edit, so that the MODs will know why..I just add in the "reason for edit" box-sp meaning it was a spelling mistake. (I am not sure if a Lil Kinz CAN edit a post or not..I dunno for sure bout THAT one)
When you get to 10 posts, your status from being a lil kinz will filp up to being a webkinz..you will then be able to PM (private message) other members. Also, I find you highly enough to be competent to post Ma'am-mistakes are made here by ALL!!
As for where to create a thread for design?...humm-you could try it in the How to guide section-Like, "How to create an indoor garden room"..that would be interesting or..in the room designs forum section..as in "Come and see my indoor garden-pictures included"...you WILL have to have a refresher course in the screenie/paint/upload catagory though
Hope any of this works/helps for you too! Hang in there-you will be up to par in NO time!!

oops..I just saw rodent mom that you were using this for practice!! I will encourage you to still use it as a chance to practice I would love to see a pic of your room w/the pool (I love seeing others houses)

Yeah, I had noticed that we kept crossing paths. I noticed that cac953 (Hi there!) was also on the other thread (which Webberlilly has wisely closed before a flame-war could break out by accident.) I think it was productive, though: both sides got to offer thier perspective and everyone had the chance to learn something.

I'll post the picture of the room tomorrow. My husband went to bed over an hour ago, and I should have, too. My room layout has the benefit of giving an unimpeded view of the Pool, even if the room itself is a bit odd. Rana finds it cozy, though.

I guess your room is slightly eclectic with the Giant Gift Box and the Newton's Giant Cradle. At least it holds to a single basic theme. It's a really opulent room and very impressive. I love the proliferation of ponytail palms. I'll have to keep those in mind when I build my peristyle garden.

I just noticed the Small Gemfinder Trophy in there. That was my most recent acquisition from Doug, though it's on the other account and will stay there.

What are those things that look like purple spiders hanging high up on the walls on either side?

If you choose not to flag your gender when you make up your profile, then it's really no-one's business what it is, but I'm not naturally in the habit of using gender-neutral pronouns like "xe." (In fact, I am not certain that I even know how to pronounce "xe.") So without thinking I simply used the pronoun for the gender that I had perceived you as. Turned out that I guessed right. I've also guessed wrong before, even after reading someones posts for months.

Must go to bed, must sleep. Must get up in morning and post pic of room with Ancient Wading Pool. Must remember to PM about ferrets once I have made my tenth post.

Rodentmom, you might want to check out the blue stickied thread "Inside, Outside, Underwater, in a Tree," in the Decorating Tips forum. Some of your ideas might not work out, because not all items can go outside, or underwater. Like the idea of the peristyle garden. I'm pretty sure the Ionic and Corinthian pedestals, and the rare columns, don't go outside. Bummer, because that would look sooooooo cool.

Thanks very much for tip on which thread in which forum. I will definitely be checking that out. In my copious free time. (But seriously, that stickied thread sound like it has a lot of information that I've been wanting.)

I didn't even have to ask or try it to know that those columns won't go outdoors, and that is, as you said, a bummer. I could wish that WW would change the programming to allow different types of objects to go in a less restricted set of environments. It would give us more latitude to design our rooms very creatively. However, I am not going to to actually wish that they would do that, because, judging from what I've already observed, such an attempt on their part would almost certainly result in a massive number of bugs being unintentionally introduced into the system.

I'm still committed to doing my best to create a peristyle garden. It's going to be a real challenge, but I think that there must be some way of creating the illusion of a garden in an indoor room. If I can find a way of making it look like a garden, it won't bee an issue that there are walls since a real peristyle was a courtyard in the interior of the house, open to the sky, and surrounded by a collonaded walkway. So walls won't bother me. I still have a lot of time to figure this out since I only own 4 columns so far. (And I am hugely regretting not having picked up an extra pair last time I had the chance: I was afraid that I might need the money for another expensive rare later. Bad call on my part.)

Anyway, one my husband gets home from running an errand, he'll teach me how to get that room pic up and you can all get the chance to the Ancient Wading Pool installed in a rather stranger environment.
