At the top, in the blue stickies, you can find the "Gem Hunt-Locations" thread. That will tell you where to search for every gem, in case you haven't found that thread yet.  They say you can find it in....Buried Bones or Barking Mad mines.
I have started looking on the bottom more than I used to, too. That seems to help me. I go over a little bit and start my search on the bottom, do one on the top, and then do either top or bottom, whatever I think to do at that time.
It's always the last gem that we can't seem to find, though, that's the one that always seems to elude us.
