my gem luck(not)

I was wondering if this is just my experience or if this has some validity:

I have 3 accounts.
#1 Has no COW on the dock or a pet. I find a gem almost every visit to the mines and save them to trade to Doug.
#2 Has a COW on a pet but none on the dock. I find a gem pretty frequently and save them to trade to Doug as well. I do not find gems on this account as often as on #1.
#3 Has 4 COW on my dock and two on pets.(I have only won one. The rest were traded to me).
On this account I hardly ever find any gems. I sometimes go a week to ten days with no gems. I look in the right mines according to the WI guide and always look in the same mine for each account each time.

I was wondering if the number of COWs an account has affects the mining I do and the number of gems I find or don't find, or does it just seem that way to me? Does anyone else have an opinion or may be having similar experience? I really want to know.
If it turns out, I can't find gems because I have the COW already, what should I do with them? I can't get anywhere with Doug on the account that has all the COW, because I have no gems to trade. I am getting so frustrated.

I play regularly on 2 accounts, 1 has a bunch of crowns, the other has none since its an account that I use only for generating kinz cash, buying rares and trading. I also periodically do the dailies on my niece and nephew's accounts. Her account has 1 crown, his has none. I don't think I have noticed any difference between the accounts on the frequency of finding gems. I do not check the same mine. I look at my gem box and go for the mine that I have the least amount of gems of that color. I will also go to mines where I am missing the rare gem of that color. I try to find the rare gem using the location that seems to be more often successful than others for the rare of that color (e.g. top right of initial circle for topaz corona, third on top right for webkinz diamond, top center or bottom left of initial circle for ocean sapphire, top left of initial circle for ruby heart, and I haven't found a good location for earth emerald). While I don't find the rare often, i do find gems regularly in those locations.

I always go to the mine for the gem of the day. Maybe I should stop doing that for awhile and see if it makes a difference. I will just look for the ones I need. I will experiment! Thanks Rinny.

Well it is still not working for me. #3 account can find no gems. What should I do now?

I don't think it makes a difference on the amount of COWs on an acct. I don't pay attention to the Gem of the day. I look in my gem box to see what gems I need and go to that mine. If you go the mine where the gem of the day is and you need it, he always offers up the best price when it is the gem of the day, so then you are left with decision, keep it or sell it. I like my COWs

UPDATE: It may just be coincidence, but I took all the COW off my dock in account #3 and started just looking in the color mine for the gems I need and I am having a lot more luck this way than I was looking for the gem of the day. Thanks
